    I always tell this story whenever I talk about Tyson. I was a young teenager in the early 90's, in the back of a cab with a couple buddies heading down the vegas strip one evening. Tyson was fighting that night, and the strip was packed. The undercards had finished and Tyson was getting ready to fight. We were stopped at a red light, and there were people crossing the street in front of us, making their way into the casino. These were the high rollers showing up "fashionably late". Men in suits, women decked out in fancy gowns, jewelry blinging under the lights. A few minutes later we made it to our destination, and the radio announced that Tyson won in a knockout in under a minute. I just kept thinking of all those people crossing the street who probably never even made it to their seats before the fight ended lol. Iron Mike was such a beast in his prime man. Never seen anyone strike as much fear into his opponents like he did.

Then he got blasted and KOed in 30 seconds and Tyson unified the titles. That was probably the most dominant performance ever seen in a championship fight.

    • @topspot4834
      @topspot4834 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That's on them, you don't show up fashionably late to a Tyson fight, and tbh I'm questioning the validity of this story. Every fight I've seen was jam packed, and the fights took forever to start anyway. Plus Mike coming out and into the ring was the best part. Maybe they were rushing to a TV or something, but I've never heard of anyone showing up to a Tyson fight "fashionably late."

    I love what Mike Tyson has learned about ego. Identification with ego is why the structures that run the world are upside down. Greed rules everything because these people are very egotistical. The nature of ego is self-interest and fear. And views life as scarcity, despite having great wealth, prestige, or power. Ego is the source of mental aberration and evil, which creates "sin." We could literally save the world if we could stop identifying with ego...

You could either think of it as them adding it because it makes Tyson's achievements even MORE impressive, or simply as a way to show that even someone as legendary as that man had problems. That can motivate or reassure. I personally see no value in venerating men like gods; nobody is perfect, and everything tends to come with some sort of cost. Tyson went through a very rough patch in his life, and i am so glad to see who came out of it. I love that Mike has found a level of peace and happiness.

    Tyson’s 100% Freak of Nature to me. many of his predecessors start with something special & end with way less, while Mike seems to’ve evolved into something extra special. hearing him speak on & off topic these days blows my mind. he’s somehow a formidable all-around badass, and also a humble & enlightened being. he seems legitimately happy now. that makes me feel good for him & his pride. what a Champ

    I'm grateful for these podcasts. This is historic, awesome to see these two friends chat. Big Mike high AF being him self and Joe understanding his craziness being able to talk about anything, two amazing entertainers 🥲🥲😂

    That fight was a childhood dream come true to me. I know, it wasn't in their prime like I wanted, but still they are my all time favorite fighters. I still believe Iron Mike was railroaded with that conviction. Glad he moved on and became an inspiration. His HBO documentary back in the day was legendary too

    I absolutely love this guy! What a life’s journey he has had. He survived all this insanity of his youth and came out the other side with such a wealth of wisdom. God I would love to sit and talk to him like Joe does. You could learn so much!

    To be a great fighter you have to have an Edge, an attitude to protect yourself from the ones who want to take it all away from you. Mike at 16 was headed down the path to be a great. As he gained life experience away from boxing he found clarity, He was lost but know he is found. Amazing Grace has found Mike. And the boxing purists are very proud of him.. We love Mike Tyson being HAPPY !!

      I think a Person can evolve over time, when Mike was Younger the pain of losing his Mentor and after the fact not having the right people around him coupled with the fact that he probably couldn't process through his emotions and whatever other mental health things he had going on was a recipe for disaster, but as he got older if you talk to the right people and you can gain some perspective on past events and hopefully that helps you grow as a human being...I think Mike could still become the Old Mike if pushed to it but he seems to be balanced now.
