    As an ex-trucker it always amazes me how little consideration is given to the size of trucks when designing these industrial sites.

    • @TheSpaceGeek
      @TheSpaceGeek 4 ปีที่แล้ว +287

      Some of these places were probably built in the 30's and 40's, though; day cabs were the standard, and the trailers were a lot shorter. It was probably no sweat, back then.

      I’m not a trucker per say but I do hot shot with a 3/4 ton pick up and I pull to some of the most stupidest locations where I can barely get a PICK UP TRUCK in & I always wonder who tf designed the stupid building without taking into consideration gooseneck , bumper pull & tractor trailers.

    I look up to guys like this. My dad was a trucker until he just couldn’t do it anymore. He had a stroke, heart attack and through it all he still drove until he became bedridden. It takes a special person to do the job they do. People are so inconsiderate on the highway and don’t realize the skill it takes to drive an 18 wheeler nor do they realize how hard it is to stop something that weighs that much when necessary. Thanks for doing these videos, it reminds me of my dad that’s passed on.

      Couldn't have said it better. If everyone watched videos like these or got an opportunity to ride or test drive a commercial vehicle, they would learn to respect truck drivers more on the road. I have never operated an 18 wheeler, but I have operated fire engines in the past. I must say that I got a whole new respect for truck drivers and what they have to endure.

      I bet you that driver can just glance at one while driving and tell if it's reading right without thinking about it. You have things like fuel, air(2), pyrometer, coolant temperature, voltage and a few other things you have to be wary of whilst the truck is running. Without the gauges you wouldn't know if things are right. Remember, diesel engines operate a bit differently than gasoline ones.

      They're real trucks in my mind. Built tough most of them got turbo diesel cummins that'll pull anything you throw at it, they got 18 speed gear boxes (which aren't useless like most uk/europeans think because they don't understand mostly we have bigger open highways to use al 18 gears unlike most of euro's smaller and stop more often roads) These trucks also look like real trucks not highly engineered mumbo jumbo cab over euro trucks. These trucks are built, they look bad ass and they look like a serious machine, and they are simple enough for the driver to understand that it just works and it'll pull anything it needs to, no over engineered confusing screens and mumbo jumbo.

He drove trucks and all sorts of heavy hauling equipment. I remember the good old days when we'd go for a ride in his old twin stick GMC truck. I've always loved semi trucks since. Unfortunately he retired June of last year, moved back to my home country, within 6 months, picked up a brain infection. And 1 month later became paralyzed from a stroke. He passed away last month at the young age of 60 from Covid Pneumonia. Was a very hard and honest working guy. Your work ethics remind me of him very much.
