    As an ex-trucker it always amazes me how little consideration is given to the size of trucks when designing these industrial sites.

      @TheSpaceGeek 4 ปีที่แล้ว +282

      Some of these places were probably built in the 30's and 40's, though; day cabs were the standard, and the trailers were a lot shorter. It was probably no sweat, back then.

      I’m not a trucker per say but I do hot shot with a 3/4 ton pick up and I pull to some of the most stupidest locations where I can barely get a PICK UP TRUCK in & I always wonder who tf designed the stupid building without taking into consideration gooseneck , bumper pull & tractor trailers.

      I bet you that driver can just glance at one while driving and tell if it's reading right without thinking about it. You have things like fuel, air(2), pyrometer, coolant temperature, voltage and a few other things you have to be wary of whilst the truck is running. Without the gauges you wouldn't know if things are right. Remember, diesel engines operate a bit differently than gasoline ones.

    I look up to guys like this. My dad was a trucker until he just couldn’t do it anymore. He had a stroke, heart attack and through it all he still drove until he became bedridden. It takes a special person to do the job they do. People are so inconsiderate on the highway and don’t realize the skill it takes to drive an 18 wheeler nor do they realize how hard it is to stop something that weighs that much when necessary. Thanks for doing these videos, it reminds me of my dad that’s passed on.

      They're real trucks in my mind. Built tough most of them got turbo diesel cummins that'll pull anything you throw at it, they got 18 speed gear boxes (which aren't useless like most uk/europeans think because they don't understand mostly we have bigger open highways to use al 18 gears unlike most of euro's smaller and stop more often roads) These trucks also look like real trucks not highly engineered mumbo jumbo cab over euro trucks. These trucks are built, they look bad ass and they look like a serious machine, and they are simple enough for the driver to understand that it just works and it'll pull anything it needs to, no over engineered confusing screens and mumbo jumbo.

  • @jasonnolan394
    @jasonnolan394 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    the worst part of driving a rig in Chicago, apart from the traffic, is the low bridges (rail overpasses). At least Chicago has good signage! I once got off an exit in south side Chicago with a 13’6” trailer, and sign at the end of the ramp said “LEFT TURN 10’8” | RIGHT TURN 11’3”” My only option was to get back on the I-94 and figure out another way. I’ve had a few holy crap moments in Chicago. I also love dumbass 4 wheelers that go in the EZPass express lane at the toll plaza and stop because they want to pay cash. I usually give them the damn air horn to let them know what a dumb mofo they are.
    Just curious... wtf is with the 5 foot long shifter? Lmao... More leverage.? Or you just like your shifting hand to be up above your head? Haha. Ballin ride though driver 👍. What you got under the hood? Detroit?
    Btw... everybody has good backing days and frustrating backing days. Some times you can nail it perfectly in one shot. Othertimes, you’re in and out the cab checking your blind side, and making a dozen corrections. It happens. Being tired definitely makes it harder. Sometimes, when you’re in a jam, it helps to just pull the yellow button, and take a few minutes to just breathe and take another look. Then pull out, and start fresh. Inside docks, with poor lighting and huge concrete pillars are a pain, especially in older buildings built before 53’ trailers were a thing. Watching a SWIFT driver try to back into a parking space at a truck stop is always good entertainment! 😂

    Just the sounds of these bad boys is just so crisp and relaxing to listen to. I'll never get tired of hearing such a magnificent vehicle go through town or listening to it at night when pulled over in a rest area to sleep for the night

    It always amazes me the incredible skill that’s required to drive semis. Respect to drivers, stay safe.
