The birth of Sancedes! Hands down my favorite vocal pairing of the series. This number was even better during their concert tour. It was amazing to see it live. Naya and Amber electrified the crowds and Naya impressed so much that they even had her join Mark and Amber on Lady is a Tramp during the live tour and that elevated the number so much. Naya was a master of impressions and kept the cast and crew entertained by doing them during their 14-16 hour days on set. Chris said his absolute favorite was her impression of Kim Kardashian during jury duty. This duet paved the way for the iconic River Deep Mountain High which also led Amber to having a talk with Brad Falchuk about how they were sleeping on Naya's talent and that led to her getting the lead for Valerie. Amber was an awesome friend to Naya. You were an amazing talent Naya and we miss you so much.
@@handrian6019 She advocated hard with the producers and basically said that they were underutilizing her. And yeah, I absolutely love their friendship. I love Naya's connection with so much of the cast is amazing. So many have said that she has helped them to advocate for themselves and be stronger. I continually am impressed by her the more I find out about her
Naya was doing her impression of the boy is mine. The creator of the show Ryan heard it and loved it so much he put it in the show. Naya wanted to go full impression and then they agreed to do a mixture of Nayas real voice and her impression. So that might be why it seems so different then everything else. Also the birth of the best duet partners ever
Fairly sure this was when Naya was still largely a side character in the show and they weren't 100% set on if she'd be showcased in vocal numbers a lot going forward (this was the only song she was showcased in during season 1, she was just backing vocals in a few others). I think she was given instructions to try and emulate Monica as close as feasible, because this song was a departure from her typical sound, and she was well known among the cast and crew for her many impressions. Probably drew from that when putting together this number. Though yeah, the different E is a bit off the mark from monica's, a bit more nasal for sure. Both have definitely developed a lot over the years, for sure! She'd worked herself up from an named character without any lines (in the pilot), to a named character with dialogue(early season 1), to a named character who helped provide some vocals (late season 1, such as this number in episode 18), to a full-on series regular in season 2 after the showrunners fought for her to be brought in full time. It really paid off, because she was a standout throughout the whole series and was eventually given plenty of opportunities to shine.

You should definitely WATCH "Lee Daniel's STAR" it's a damn good Musical show that is from the same creator as Empire and in the same Universe. Santana - even though she dumped Puck - still considered him hers and didn't like him with Mercedes. Puck thought he was hot sh*t cuz they were fighting over him.
The cutting of the video of the number is so confusing because it includes scenes from other parts of the episode and it doesn't line up with them singing. Like the fight happened after the number if I remember correctly and the dumpster was from the beginning of the episode.
Brandy aint disappeared. She's been doing T.V. and stuff. However, the reason you don't hear music like this anymore is because the landscape of music shifted. R&B is basically dead. It's all about hip-hop/rap music these days (for black people). People like Adele and Sam Smith are still able to put out music that could be deemed R&B-adjacent -- and they still become hits. Even in 2022, music is still very much racialized.
Brandy mostly focused on Moesha and acting after this song. Then went on to fake a marriage, have a daughter and kill someone in a car accident. Monica dealt with loss and life then went on to have 3 kids. They both still make music, but it was the era of Beyonce so, yeah. And was really urban mus
