Sir I am from India I am a big fan of you I so this video and I decided to become like you and started my wset wine corcess for sommelier sir you are my motivation sir ❤
I was trying to look him up and not one reference online has him as a Master Somm. He is a Somm yes... but doesn't seem to be a master in the sense that he has passed the Master Somm test.
Yup I doubt he is but 8 have not looked into it I'm planning on training for mine soon 😊 I believe there's only 600 in the world and in the beginning he said he started 10 years ago I feel like 10 yrs isn't long enough to learn everything a master knows and develop your smell and pallet and gain experience in that short amount of time but I could be wrong anyone in the chat have any stories of what to expect while training what jobs you could expect to get the type of pay
Anyone else found it odd the way he picked the wine cart from the client? He didnt look at the other person at the table at all either. Also, the cart itself was very unhandy in use...
They get paid very well… any sommelier is an asset for any fine dining restaurants. Certainly 100k at minimum… But a master sommelier is very rare.. like only a couple hundred in the world… so they would get much more because they’re a draw themselves.
@@lauracanna2201I think that's incorrect because I work at a private club and make about that the tips are awesome so somm get tips or bonuses I wonder do you know
He’s a master sommelier, he could go to just about any fine dining restaurant in the world and get a job today… being a master sommelier is a really big deal
He tried OVER 100,000 wines? Let's say he's 50 years old. That means he's lived 18,250 days. If he has been trying different wines from the very first day he came out of his mothers womb, he would have had to try 5-6 different wines every single day to reach 100,000.
You can try dozens in a day though I'm not a somm but I am a bartender at a private club and have tried multiple wines well over 6 in a day and I'm not a wine expert
You do have to remember they may try 2-3 wines with each entree or appetizer or dessert every day. Most tables at a nice restaurant will want the Somm to “sip” the wine and tell them about it. When he goes to a tasting he may try 100 wines at a time”show” or event. But to your point that is a “boat” load of wine. Sorry for the technical math term Boat load … 😅
@@trendydiy2931 Every single day from when you were 1 day old out of your mothers womb? And tbh that's if he's 50 years old, he doesn't look 50. So that number per day should be even higher.
Yup nothing better than a nice ice cold bottle of baby duck! We'd drink it ice fishing, that way you can tell who pukes first - baby "cunard" is purple!
It’s quite possible. You’re tasting every newly opened bottle during service to check it’s not bad and then you’re tasting 10s or 100s of bottles in the week before you even buy them.
On a work shift in a restaurant he’s probably tasting 50 + wines, very possible, he’s not “drinking” 20 bottles a day. He also probably does a lot of tastings with retailers where he’s tastings dozens of bottles in a sitting
Usually the first few years you may not be tasting that many. The more experienced you become and with a job, you start to taste 30+ or in good days 50+ so it may not be a good idea to average the amount out by 10 years

@@trendydiy2931 Its around 300ish
Cool view of the “backstage”, thanks!
Great video, those were the days. 82 Lafite futures were around $500. wholesale.
And the price now?

The guest has on a lapel microphone, indicating that he was part of the video and it was a staged example of the somm doing his job.
This is passion ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent video. Very interesting.
This is so beautiful!
Nice vid
Thank you for this! I’m starting my training now because I truly adore wine!
Good luck!
Living a dream....!!!
Loved this!
Love this story❤
I m the one who love wines and wanna be a master sommelier like you too 👍🤘🙂
How's range of salary as a Sommelier on average in London? Male or Female

Around 40-45 K a year for high ends restaurants.
A kind of low income salary if living in USA
@@christoph1596yup last time I checked it was about 600 worldwide

I googled the Restaurant this guy works at and they have closed down. So oh well.
Big sad
There website is still on air. They are really closed? If so, it was just after COVID!!

I'm having KFC right now. What wine goes well with that?
Fried chicken …always champagne
The 1962 Chateau Lafite Rothschild goes amazingly well with the thighs, mashed potatoes and Mac ‘n Cheese.
That backfired innit? Any food can be paired with wine.
He is not an MS by any means. Just letting everyone know.
Pourquoi?
@@L10N. Il n'a pas passé le Master Sommelier exam
Ms for sure.... go home and open a book my friend. Nowadays everyone talk about wine and everyone is a sommelier ;)
Magyar barat!
Raw lamb.

I should be a sommelier because I really don’t like wine so I would find the most pleasant wines that you don’t barf trying to drink
didnt know henry cavill was a sommelier
100,000 wines in 10 years is 27+ wines each day. I don't believe that at all

Good for you, noone cares. Its not like you have a culinary education or providing any feedback beside beeing an entitled keyboard warrior. 🤡
Why claim you're a Master Sommelier when you're not? I just looked up the list of MS' and you're not on it.
If your entire life is being an overpaid glorified waiter the least you can do is tip the buskers who actually learned a craft
What a bunch of BS 🙄
So much wrong with the table you served
Was just thinking the same thing. Label facing away from the guest and moving counter clockwise around the table just for starters
Wset level 3 both😊
He didn’t walk around the table properly
Good lord I can't imagine people actually enjoying that garbage! "Hey waiter, what kind of draft ya got"??
Check out the two guys - "excuse me waiter, where's the transgender washroom"!!
Utter garbage. Alcohol kills tastebuds. If you want to taste food, drink water to clean the palate
