I feel like this theme could fit with every single one of his fights. He never fights with anger alone, except with the androids after he turned super saiyan. He’s always fighting with a greater motive in mind, and always thinking of someone or something else. Wether it be the world, or his father, or Gohan. And when he was killed by cell, one can only imagine what went through his head. For all he knew, he failed and everyone was doomed. He died thinking he failed Gohan in two timelines. That’s what was so horrifying about him dying to cell.
Wouldn't be new for akira, since he helped work on rpg's before. More noticeably crono trigger and dragon quest so it wouldn't be surprising if he based trunks off of that context

Future Trunks is my favourite Dragon Ball character but boy does he get done the dirtiest out of the whole cast. Saves his future by BODYING the androids, Nukes Cell in a 1v1, stopped the Ressurection of Majin Buu for his timeline by 1v1'ing Dabura, fought and killed a literal GOD only for his timeline to be wiped out entirely by Zen-Oh. All that effort and heroic deeds of sheer bad assery for a Smurf looking toddler to destroy it all because a god got salty.

I feel like people would've complained about Sword of Hope if that's how it ended anyway tho, Dragon Ball fans would absolutely point out a Spirit Bomb (which Trunks shouldn't know how to use) from an out-of-energy Goku and Vegeta + less than 50 earthings should not kill Zamasu. But seeing Zeno erase the entire timeline they were fighting to save and having that be the ending made people focus on the good parts of Sword of Hope more, so I think it actually might have been for the best in a weird way

Besides, it would have made sense if Fused Zamasu was able to be killed: though immortal himself, fusing with the mortal Black could have made the new body destructible. He was already falling apart after Vegito's fight with him, and Trunks only dealt the final blow. It would have made perfect sense if he just died right there: he had no business turning into the universe or whatever.
