My parents loved French Lick so we went there several times while I was growing up. French Lick, being a tourist town, was hit hard by the depression when the hotel you guys stayed at (West Baden Springs) closed for a long time and the main one that you went to at first (French Lick Springs) barely survived (being the one that had the "Pluto" water spring). From 1934 to 1964, it was a Jesuit College then a private college until 1983 when it was abandoned. For a few years, one could get tours (I toured it sometime in that time span) but by 1989 it was deemed unsafe to enter. West Baden Springs was reportedly the first spring training site for the Chicago White Stockings (now Cubs) and was also used by the Reds and Pirates. In 2011, my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a week of vacation in French Lick with the family dinner on the actual anniversary hosted at the clubhouse of the course you played. During that week, I played the course with my dad, brother in law and one of my sons.

Wish I would have started watching sooner. I have played the links and the Donald Ross have yet to play dye. Man there are sooooo many nice courses around here. Sultans run in jasper, Lucas oil in English, stonecrest a 27 hole course. Literally nice courses everywhere. I hear from tourist golfers all the time how lucky we are to have such nice courses. Hope u enjoyed ur stay!!!! 🙏🏻

A little history of French Lick. The Chicago mobsters, Capone era, would travel down there to gamble and get away from the city. Prohibition era, was far enough away from everything and drinking was fine. Dr. Cook of Cook Medical, Bloomington IN started the reconstruction of area and contracted Pete Dye to build the course.
You guys are awesome, one of the best by far courses in Indiana, I grew up about a hour from there, played there back in the mid 80's in a High School tournament.

While French Lick is truly something special, you guys really need to play the Pfau course at IU Bloomington 7908 yds,80.2 rating,155 slope. It is possibly the toughest track in the country.
This course is awesome! You guys should stay in French Lick sometime and play all of the courses. Also you need to make it to Greenwood Indiana to play Dye's Walk Country Club. It has the first 9 holes Pete Dye ever made. We would love to have you! Love Indiana representing and log Good Good!
