just watched the movie, and considering reading the book later on. loved your review, especially the way you get so excited (and teary) while reviewing it, i can tell, lol. it just gives the sense of -ohmy. this book is really smth for you, isnt it- nicely done.
i've seen this book at the store and wasn't sure about it... but oh man these characters sound so so interesting!! i think i'd actually root for them to get together!! :) anyway i'll definitely pick this one up now. thank you for the great review!! i just subscribed!
If you really want to learn more about CF there was a documentary from 2009 that premiered at Hot Docs called 65 Red Roses. It follows the lives of three women and their struggles. www.65redroses.com Riverdale is filmed in Vancouver as you know. Sprouse and Reinhart do not have a very good reputation there when it comes to interacting with the public or fans. A prime example of that was when they were on location during season 2. A street performer named Babe Coal was doing her set and not at all holding up their production but there is a You Tube video of him and Reinhart bullying her to leave the area. Reinhart has also used a four letter word about young female fans filming her eating at a restaurant. I hate self-entitlement. He's an okay actor who gets the job done and that's about it. I haven't seen Reinhart do anything other than Riverdale. The problem with the Five Feet Apart movie is that there almost always is around Valentines Day a movie with two people who wind up in love with one another where one or both is dying. Almost always those characters are depictd as teens. It's a formula that despite the movie often being awful brings in cash. It also makes the disease it depicts despite best intentions of the filmmakers into a "disease of the week" story that people will only think about and remember during the time frame the media keeps Five Feet Apart in the news cycle or its distributors in a theater. I've seen this a lot with films about mental health too. I hope though that if this reaches just 1 person and makes them less ignorant about CF and sparks discussion than that's great. I find books the movie are based on have better ability to make a real dent because of their ability to constantly get rediscovered.
