I’m an old school Korn fan... It’s a sin from what I’m about to say... “Issues” is my favorite Korn album of all time. I know fans for as long as I’ve been it’s common to say their S/T is the best release (logically speaking, it is) but Issues saved my life. The time it came out, I was bullied to a hell in middle school. For everything. When I wore the Issues shirt I wore they threw me down the stairs and said “Korn sucks” and when I went home with the bruises on my head and arms I lied to my mom and told her I fell while playing basketball in gym class. This, Follow The Leader, and Untouchables are definitely the darkest. Self-titled and Life Is Peachy are just very angry where the latter 3 albums (especially Issues) is where Jonathan Davis and the band were having the most problems. You could sort of tell. Jonathan and the band used a lot of drugs so this is definitely their most spaced-out of all their release. Tied with Follow The Leader as my second favorite and Untouchables being first.
This is Korn's masterpiece to me. While I love them both their first two albums were almost too raw due to the rage Jon seemed to have inside him. Follow The Leader, which is again, a great album, is sprinkled with the occasional comedic, or rap style song. Issues on the other hand seems like a mature Jon expressing in a gut wrenching way how miserable he has become, and it's insanely easy to relate to. The music is also at all an time high in the band with them mastering the ability to go back and forth between face raping metal and bang your head goodness, to a type of melody they found that seems to somehow convey his misery even more.
This song cuts deep, I've been depressed as shit and can't get out of this hole. Haven't heard this song in years and listening to it now is a profound experience, but knowing someone else once felt as I do is comforting to some degree but does not really help. I really do just want to laugh again or feel anything for that matter.
I relate to this song so much, to me this song is about sexual abuse, feeling dirty and feeling helpless and alone, "I wish you could see the world through my eyes" is something that really hits home for me I struggle so much telling people how I feel and I wish people could read my mind sometimes. I never understood this, and depression overall, until I reached this shit for a relatively brief period of time (fortunately).
