This is amazing! My mom had a stroke and is paralyzed on the right hand side of her body, she is learning to transfer in and out of vehicles and has managed start walking short distances along a bar and a few steps with a cane by swinging her hip to move her paralyzed side forward. She's fighting so hard, I hope one day a device like this could give her some more mobility and independence. I could imagine it giving her just enough extra momentum to swing her leg and make movement a little more comfortable and less painful. Even if it's just to move across the room and get a glass of water for herself. So much potential for people with disabilities or who need rehabilitation.
Wouldn't it be simper to put the engines with the wires above the areas of pulling the strings? To reduce or eliminate need of the black tubes for the wires? Also - putting the belt strap - would be simpler if the black tubes wouldn't be there.
From the link in the description: Researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have developed robotic trousers that enable people to walk more easily while expending measurably less energy. The aim is to keep frail individuals and in particular the elderly mobile and healthy for longer. “You can walk slowly with the shorts but you can also jog,” says TUM Professor Lorenzio Masia. “We have developed a system that makes people want to move around more. It's the same concept as the electric bike, but for walking.”
