As a musician and music lover, today I came across this guy . The song reached into my chest and ripped out my heart...in a good way. Not many songs can do that do that. Absolutely amazing stuff. Thank you!
Most Musicians of Nick’s era are in decline creatively. Nick is singing, performing and writing better than ever. I think Nick being true to his art and talent are propelling him to an incredible Legacy Catalog. Well done always Nick.
Outside of The Beatles, who I'm informed were a band, has there been a better 5 album run than from Party of One to At My Age in all of rock/pop? I think not. Amazing talent.
@@michaelroberts7959 This reminds me very much of Hope For Us All, from At My Age, but the other side of the coin, to borrow another of Nick's titles :) I suppose the loss of Neil Brockbank and Bobby Irwin forced a change, along with Nick's move to Yep Roc, who have been remarkably good at promoting Nick's interests, but I don't think there's ever been a lineup of Nick's I haven't liked.
@@jeffkaufman9875 Elvis Costello said Nick Lowe was England's greatest living songwriter when the "Spectacle" series was on TV. I tend to agree with him.
@derek Elvis Costello is another master English songwriter, perhaps one even more skilled than Nick; in any case, one artist’s humility with regard to another, does not suffice for fact, but remains an open question of opinion, preference, and debate in the ears of the beholder…
You forgot Kippington Lodge, the predecessor group to Brinsley Schwarz. Here's a link to him singing "I Can See Her Face" with them: th-cam.com/video/8yZyVbF1Efs/w-d-xo.html
Love that late-‘50’s, early- ‘60’s tone and vibe that Nick captures, somehow making you feel as though he were creating something entirely his, and completely new…
This reminds me of a song Sinatra did called "Somthin' Stupid." If he was alive, Sinatra would have made this song his own. The excellence of Nick Lowe's songwriting cannot be overstated.
Alexa has just presented me with this song. I thought it was Alex Turner singing, or maybe Richard Hawley. So it warranted another listen. May well do again a few times.
Good Song, Good Voice !!! I subscribed . Los Straitjackets has been one of my favorites since I picked up a copy of "The Velvet Touch of Los Straitjackets" in 1999, & heard the song "Tempest" . Have you ever considered producing "Los Straitjackets Songbook" with all the songs, & guitar notation/tabs since the beginning of Los Straitjackets ? So much music is lost over time if it's not written down for future generations. Videos , on-line stuff is nice...but nothing that lasts thru the years replaces written books. I'm fortunate to have a couple dozen songs by "Daddy-O-Grande" from 20+ years ago : which means a lot to me. 🙂🎸

That was a beautifully written tune. Thank you Nick for this song. Love my Straightjackets too !
I'm obsessed with this song right now.
One of the best lyricists ever. A true wordsmith.

Haven't seen Nick Lowe since 1984. Have never seen Los Straitjackets. seeing both in Detroit and Chicago in October!
I've seen him and the Straitjackets a few times in the last decade and they always put on a great show!
Enjoy! I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks. Bound to be great. Nick has definitely still got it. ❤
Lucky bastard

Another Nick Lowe adult, night-time classic setting a nuanced mood for blue days and black nights…
A great new song from England's greatest living songwriter. Is anyone else getting "Something Stupid" vibes?
@derek Though Nick’s a master songwriter and surely one of England’s best, hyperbole aside, he is not England’s greatest living songwriter…

Very "Something Stupid" in first bar and style. Nick continues to write strong songs and assembled them on a compelling new LP.
England's "greatest songwriter" is just a kid in his/her room practicing the craft listening to this. We haven't met them yet.
Stunning song, so beutifully sung.
From Brinsley Schwarz till today as a musician, a songwriter, a producer: Never a wrong tune!

@@aljustal6554 Thanks a lot. I didn't know this band till now.
This well- written and performed tune reminds me a little of Bobby Vee’s 1961 (?) hit “Run to Him,” as well as the 1967 Sinatra hit.
Lovely Lowe lulling me to sleep
A solo version of this was a bonus track on the convincer. Great to hear a band version of this classic.

Awesome! This sounds out the feel of hurt over missing someone, perfectly.
Still at the top of his game. Timeless!
Timeless…
That is just lovely 😪
Love this! Really looking forward to the new album.

It would be difficult to get more mellow in song.
Enjoyed your book, Will.
That’s the melody of “Something stupid”.
