It's not just a visual aspect to the Epic or Heroic variant. That's a cool part of it but what makes them special is the 10% and 15% extra XP that you get from it per kill.

King Bryant that's broke heroic only gives 10% and you get zero bonus if you use a division skill like heroic smg with suppressed equals 0% bonus and without suppressor 10%

I've been told you lose your heroic weapons after you prestige. Is this true?
I have several by now, gotten quite lucky! I have the revised 2 fg 42, the faithful 2 m1903, zipper 2 mg 42, do-re-mi 2 mp40, point blank 2 bazooka, fortitude 2 shovel, bug juice 2 m1a1 carbine and the rookie 2 m1 garand. Also got the Calgary highlanders 2 expeditionary heroic outfit, 25th rifle 2 infantry outfit, and the task force 9 2 outfit for mountain. Thats just heroics! Have about 3 dozen epics so far! Gotten real good loot, although the game slapped me in the face with a heroic dupe yesterday.

I got two Heroic version of the M1903 being the “Ranger II” and “Faithful II” and diamond for snipers, so it doesn’t just look amazing, it’s beautiful man. Lemme know if you wanna showcase them.

Here is a top if you have a locked gun (EX: MP-40) go to zombies (after reaching level 5) and customise the guns like normal, you can see what the gun is supposed to look like and you can use it (only in zombies and a star will still show in multiplayer during class makeing) have fun using them against the horde of undead
(I use XBOX of it might not work on steam or PS4 I'm sorry)

My first ever supply drop on cod ww2 I got a heroic shovel
Since everyone is saying what variants they have I would just say what I have as well. For heroics I have the blue sky 2 for type 100, faithful 2 for m1903, bite the dust 2 for m1a1 carbine, teeth grinder 2 for trench knife, and merkur 2 for the panzerschreck. For the epics I have the blade for the mg 15, kutusov for the karabin, greased for the Lee enfield, gum shoe for the m1903 again, the triple for the m30 luftwaffe drilling, duck soup for the ppsh-41, battle watch for the m1941, army banjo for the us shovel, and the stove pipe for the panzerschreck again. Those are all of my variants. I. Total I have 5 heroics and 8 epics.
On the Blade 2 MG 16, the barrel is liquid cooled so that is why it is big.
*FG-42 Revised II + Copper = Mint condition greatness.* (in fact any variant with gold borders filled in with black which changes to copper with copper camo is lit)
I've got the horic Sten gun looks soo 😍😍 gun has a skull cocking handle with handcraft lines within the silver metal and a wooden butt. Very accurate and good to to use close up firefights and long distances if you wish too.
