BWTS (ballast water treatment system)
for ship stability we use seawater filling in the ballast tank of the ship this is called ballasting. However, when a ship is loaded with cargo we need to deballast the tank. This water we cannot overboard directly from the ship because it may pose serious ecological, economic, and health problems due to the multitude of marine species carried in ships' ballast water. These include bacteria, microbes, small invertebrates, eggs, cysts, and larvae of various species.
To prevent this issue every ship has BWTS or ballast water treatment system. it includes a filter unit, chemical cleaning, UV treatment etc, which depends on the maker.
this video actually shows how to remove the UV lamp. Before doing this work we need to take an electrical work permit signed by the chief engineer and permission from the chief officer. Always think about safety because this work area consists of various kinds of energy such as heat, mechanical, and electrical. finding the hazards and working safely
