UPDATED Design | Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0

- In this video we're taking a look at the Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0! The major upgrade from the Solo Stove 1.0 to the Solo Stove 2.0 is the redesign of the ash removal. Now in the Solo Stove 2.0 the grate is removable and there's a pan to catch all the ash. This is a huge upgrade over the Solo Stove 1.0 which you had to dump out to empty the ash. Now ash removal is incredibly simple in the Solo Stove 2.0. We specifically looked at the Solo Stove Bonfire but the Solo Stove Ranger and the Solo Stove Yukon also received the 2.0 upgrade.

It appears that the pricing changed from what I was originally told and what's in my video. Here are the updated prices as of 8/1/22: Ranger 2.0 $229.99, Bonfire 2.0 $259.99, Yukon 2.0 $459.99. A

They are now $399
I ordered a generic solo stove and it came without the inner fuel chamber. It wasn't even close to the design I wanted. They tried to copy solo stove, but only cosmetic.
The photo description is misleading.
I would have been better off constructing one out of paper board.

I've been looking at a SoloStove for a few years but have never pulled the trigger. Today at work our manager gave us all a new Bonfire 2.0. I can't wait to use it!

i dont recommend cooking certain types of foods over any fire pits like grease, heavy fats/oils, sugar, etc because its not easy to clean it off. great review!

They start super easy and burn really hot and fast, you’ll go through a lot of wood but they’re nice if you’re only using it for an hour or so

It's small and light and
I find it very easy to clean .
Just wait for it to cool and dump it.
An occasional rinse with the hose and it's always ready.
I actually think the one piece design is sturdier then the 2.0 with all the separate pieces.
I got a Yukon 2.0 last week. I have had 2 fires and didn’t smell like smoke afterwards! Im now a believer! These things are amazing! They burn hot, bright, efficient with little smoke!

I don’t understand the criticism about the heat from the solo stove. We had a unit function last November, one guy brought a big cowboy fire pit and another brought his solo stove. 10 feet away I could feel the heat from the solo stove. With the cowboy fire pit you had to stand right over it and get smoke in your face.
One is for real dudes and the other is not.

Thanks for being honest and fair. 100% agree about prices on accessories. We just got the Bonfire 2.0 bundle and for that price, they really should have offered the deflector or grill for half price. We might have gone for it. As it is, we won't go back to get them, so that was opportunity lost. BTW, are they always on sale? No way would we have bought it at list price.
I just bought the BF2.0 tonight at Academy. Im pretty stoked to have an easily portable pit for parks that do not allow open burning. I can "cook" on it to be legal. Lol. Excellent review by the way!
Nice improvement! Dumping the ash on my Bonfire is a tad awkward.
The thing is a beast once it gets hot. I’ve tried wet wood and even a smallish stump.
I find it radiates a good amount of heat here in the PNW. Can’t say I would get the cook system. I have the forks they make and they’re good for a lot besides marshmallows and hotdogs. Steaks anyone?!
Spot on! Once it gets rolling it’ll burn up almost anything. I’m curious to try the heat deflector tho. Just don’t want to spend the money haha can’t wait to see your steaks slow roasted on forks haha

So helpful! I love my Bonfire Solo Stove. My Weber Master Touch accessories matched the Bonfire perfectly so I MacGyver it when I can safely do so.
I do wish the heat deflector was not so expensive.
Ya hauling my firepit and emptying it is a pain - can’t wear cute clothes for that procedure. 😂❤

About using the Weber accessories for cooking….I made my fire too big and hot and it was a bit crispy. But I’ve had successful cooks on it.

There are heat deflector diy tutorials that teach you how to make them for way less. I did it and it works well. It’s basically a pizza pan with metal legs you’d have to attach together with bolts
I have the Bon Fire and it works well. Although, if you enjoy actually seeing the fire you won’t be able to see the wood burn. You see only the flame out of the top. Not your campfire look.
For cooking, get a tripod. Then you can fully adjust the height of you cook surface

I have Trex decking. I’m worried the bottom and lower sides would get hot enough to melt or discolor it. Any thoughts or experience with the base heating up?

Sales are going on right now. So is the 2.0 worth $225 (from SoloStove) vs. the 1.0 for $180 (from Costco)? It looks like you still have to flip the 2.0 over to get everything outa there. Also something bigger can get stuck into that big hole opening on the 2.0
Used mine for the first time tonight … despite using dry logs it was ridiculously smokey … also find the whole Solo system seems to be a money con … the pit was reasonable, but once you start adding the accessories, (lid, tongs, grate, base, etc) the price creeps up significantly- jury is out. Will persevere, but sadly, first impressions were pretty underwhelming
These things are nice but a few cons are, you don’t get the light of a normal camp fire, all the heat from the fire is pretty much directed straight up, and they burn through wood like crazy.
What kind of wood did you use? Just wondering before I purchase one.
@@mrtv777 it doesn’t matter what kind of wood you use. They are designed to draw a lot of air and they do which causes a very fast burn. I’ve burnt oak, black cherry, pear, black locust. I’m not saying don’t get one based on that, just know if you’re going to use it a lot, you’ll need a lot of wood.

@@mrtv777 you’re welcome. One pro is they’re great for roasting marshmallows and hotdogs because of the way they concentrate the heat straight up. It’s like a blowtorch of sorts.
how hot does the outside get? Would it be a factor to consider if you have young children and wanted to roast marshmallows, could they get a burn easily if they touch the outside?
They heat up significantly! Definitely stay cautious with children.

No need to spend money on starter. In restaurants we use to put some cooking oil on newspaper/paper and build a pyramid on top of it
Can they sit right on a deck or do you need something underneath?
Solo stove says you need to get the stand in order for it to be considered deck safe
I use a small dust pan with rubber lip to scoop the ash. About 4/5 scoops & walla 🕺🏽

The maximum temp I’ve recorded under my solo stove with stand is about 122 degrees F. But you need to have the stand.
it would be another improvement if the whole insert lifts out of the drum
This is a great review, I live in the UK and had to buy the heat deflector to get enough heat out of the solo stove bonfire. The heat deflector almost costs the same as the bonfire solo stove itself. I haven't used the heat deflector yet. The other thing is that it eats through wood !!!
Hi, UK here too and thinking of getting one. Thinking of the 1.0 version as it's over 100 quid cheaper. Is cleaning out the ash really a pain, just put a bin bag over and turn upside down, does't seem too much of a hassle to me, and how did you get on with the heat deflector, any good. I'm in chilly Glasgow so think i'll need one. Any thoughts appreciated.
@@dociledeer3818 I ended up sending my solo stove and heat deflector back. I found neither heated up people sat around the fire. It eats through wood and get complaints of everyone smelling of smoke. I still use my outbacker stove which had a flue and heats up everyone a lot better and less issues of smelling of fire and uses a fraction of the wood. Also total cost is just over £100.

will it burned the grass under and around it?
this is nicer than the first version. I have had mine for more than 5 years but the bottom where ash falls through has started to separate from the sides. Also it is not easy to remove the ash that has fallen through unless you turn over the whole pit.
the pit weighs 20lbs. What’s the big deal?
@@TEX-704 IT is no big deal to tip over but if the ash has caked in, It is not easy to clean it out. I would rather have the version 2
How do they charge so much for it? It's just two pots with holes drilled in.
I made one from scrap metal. It won't last long, but it works fine for small jobs.

I bought and use it. Expensive and somehow pretentious. I must have the old
One because the bottom doesn’t remove. I can just tell after having it only a few months this sucker is going to rust out. Smokeless, no. If you get just the right size fire it’s cool but too small or too big and there’s smoke for sure. It would have been nice to have a drain hole build into the bottom with some sort of metal plug. It rained over night once while cooling down and I could hear the water trapped in the walls. Also, it’s like an after burning GE101…. The heat goes straight up… total
Fine as far as sitting around but it makes it a really dangerous game safely adding wood…. Throw it in and cross your fingers because you aren’t getting over it with a fire poker moving logs around. I hate saying it but a half burn barrel with strategic holes is 10% of the price…. Not as pretty at all but after a few burns it doesn’t matter.

You could but you’d never cook over it again.
I don’t recommend using a Duralog in the Solo Stove. We’ve done it twice and each time it produced thick BLACK SMOKE. The Duralog works fine in a standard, open air fire pit but for some reason there’s something about the intense heat of the solo stove that results in thick, sooty smoke. Try it, you’ll see what I mean.

How long are you going? You have to go for a while before it gets hot enough to go smokeless. Be liberal with the wood too.
