This is not Mughal architecture, Abbas ji, but it is British Victorian architecture, with a touch of Rajasthani Rajput architecture. One can call it Anglo Indian architecture.

@@ratnadeepmukherjee7393 No wonder, Bengalis till date haven't come out of their fixation and obsession with the British, true what Bengalis and Kolkata are today is a colonial gift of the British, but it's hightime you come out of the British era fixation. Now coming to the point, the small chhatris near the main dome and the small domes on the four corners are basically Rajasthani Rajput architecture often confused with Mughal architecture, as Mughal architecture borrowed it from the Rajasthani Rajput architecture. Go through the video carefully, and you will notice that there are Rajasthani Rajput style chhajjas supporting the Cantilever portion inside the Victoria memorial. The official name for architecture styles with fusion of British and Indian architecture styles is Anglo Indian architecture and Victoria Memorial is built in Anglo Indian architecture style with prominent touch of Rajasthani Rajput style of architecture. The British wanted to build something grand and stunning like the Taj Mahal for their queen and they created what is now Kolkata's Victoria memorial. The Architects of Victoria Memorial are William Emerson and Vincent Esch who were British. There was no Bengali architect in the team as claimed by you. So check your facts before you write something on social media.

@@ashirvadray5149Actually these people are obsessed with their Bengali heritage but their heritage lies in literature, art, music, even religious thought and other intellectual activities which is recognised world over. There is nothing like Bengali architecture. In fact there is no significant architectural marvel left in northern India which could be called Indian accept Mughal and rajpoot architecture. Only in south india you can see anything like pure indian (read hindu) architecture.

Most of the Pakistanis are unaware of the Indian Freedom struggle and they lack interest in true history of Indian subcontinent...It was Indian Kings and people only which resisted and fought back all types of invaders that kept attacking India in last 1400 years...In the process we lost approx 35% of Land but we still succeeded to preserve our Culture, traditions and civilization...Approx 100 million people laid down their lives in last 1000 years resisting the invaders and preserving the culture, traditions and civilization...Many invading historians kept malligning our philosophy , cuture and traditions and today's India is still not completely out of their misdeeds and mischiefs

India has been attacked since time immemorial. So called Aryans, an Indo European tribe also invaded India about 2000 BC and uprooted Dravidian race from north India. Just read the DNA medical history.. Present day Indians esp of North are the mixture of so many races like Greeks, Kushans, Hoons, Shakas who invaded India, established their kingdoms and gradually mixed with local population. Since there were all idol worshippers, there was no problem in their merger in main stream. The problem cropped up when Islam an Abrahamic religion invaded India. It did not merge with the mainland religions.

The history depicted in Victoria memorial is a common history of Indian subcontinent including Pakistan and Bangladesh . It was Bengal where East India Compony had got his first foot hold and it was Bengal and it’s partition by Lord Curzon in 1905 and it’s opposition from congress under the leadership of Tilak, Lala Lajpat Roy and Bipin Chandra Pal initiated the Britishers to embark on the policy of “divide and rule” and in 1906 by the initiation of Curzon in 1906 Muslim league and Hindu Mahasabha was formed with the help of Zamindars of Hindu and Muslim community. This policy which was started in Bengal finally culminated in the partition of India and ghastly genocide in the continent. Records of these you can find in this museum.

The writing there was not Hindi; it was Bengali. In India, there are many languages, and sometimes Hindi is promoted more than others. Similar situations happen in Pakistan, where Urdu is emphasized. Here, Hindi is being subtly pushed. That might be why there was confusion. Also, just to let you know, the Victoria Memorial Hall is not a creation of the Mughals; it's a gift from the British to Calcutta. It's a good idea to do some research before visiting.

If the British spent such a fortune to make such a collisalmonument in India to impress it's Empress , then I wonder the quantum of fortune they looted out of my country to make Britain Rich. .. with whose money ? The money & toil of our poor Indians.
Yes the monument is beautiful but I don’t want to see it as it reminds me of the brutality & oppression by British when they ruled here.

Suprised that so called educated pakistini Safir calls a victorian architectural beauty as a Mughal Architectecture..infact you have more Rajput style embedded in it tjen anything Mughal ..but again education and knowledge is scarce specially in Pakistan...

Abbas ji, this building has nothing to do with mughal structure. This is Victoria memorial, it's the tribute to queen Victoria.
