Yeah, this one's always a bit of a weird, paradoxical scenario - on one hand, with metal in general we have all these aesthetics of murder, torture, abduction, r*pe, serial killers, etc, and most people are smart enough to realize that obviously those bands (in most cases) aren't literally endorsing those things, they're just trying to portray a dark, sinister sound and tone - so in that sense, in a way it would almslt follow pretty logically that they would use swastika imagery as well, like a robot going: "I am trying to portray something evil, therefore what is the most evil imagery I can use?"; however, on the other hand: I'm also a normal member of society, and can recognize that even if you're the most extreme metal band, sporting a swastika probably isn't the most advisable decision, unless you're catering exclusively to the skinhead market.
So you have this weird dilemma where metal "society" is totally cool with non-specific imagery of mass murder, dismemberment women, and eating children, but when you get to certain particular examples, all of the sudden its "Hey, that's where I draw the line!" - but, again, even though its hypocritical, i totally get it, and absolutely abide by the same standards in real life. It is what it is, in a sense.
You could also take into account that particularly dark part of Japan's history where they were allied with Hitler, so maybe this is the band sort of acknowledging this potential dark side of human nature (but, again, they obviously aren't endorsing it), so that gets complicated too, especially when you juxtapose it with the tragedies of Hiroshima/Nagasaki as well (imagery they also included in their music and videos) - and at the end of the day, hey: maybe it was never that complex at all. Maybe they were just a young band trying to be edgy haha
So with all that said, all I can really advise, is to try and look at it with a grain salt as much as we can, and try to give people the benefit of the doubt
