Just finished my piece for the basics workshop and my stitches are utterly kindergarten! Watching this again gets me thinking I might restart my piece... Or just do another piece and decor my pitiful progress... Good job I just love this new addiction cos I am excited about getting better!
It does take some practice for sure, but loving it, makes practicing much more fun!! I'm so looking forward to seeing your piece later today, Vanessa. Very exciting!!
This was quite helpful. I'm beginning my first every Sue Spargo BOM (my first ever wool applique project) and the first step is to whipstitch the set of wool pieces to the base. Watching your video of this basic stitch helped me get launched in the best way. Thanks!
Ariane, thanks so much for your tutorials. They are really clear and so relaxing to watch. Am just venturing into wool applique and to be able to pick up the techniques from you is great. Have you done anything on creative layering?
so excited to have found your videos...very helpful! Not sure where to start in order to start a project piece so I can follow along with all the stiches???
I'm so glad Debra. You can visit my website: arianezurcher.com/stitching-shop/ and see a couple of projects I've designed that use many of the stitches I've done TH-cam videos of. Making Waves: A Drawstring Bag uses just about every stitch I teach, but it is a bit advanced. Still if you want to practice, it's a great way to do so! ❤️
Hi Debra, it really depends upon what I want to make. So, for example with my Making Waves Drawstring bag: arianezurcher.com/shop/stitching-patterns-and-designs/making-waves-downloadable-pdf-files-for-diy-drawstring-bag/ I used just about every stitch I teach on TH-cam and it's about 12" x 14" but then I designed this Variation on a Rice Sack: arianezurcher.com/shop/stitching-patterns-and-designs/a-variation-on-a-japanese-rice-sack-rock-gardens-a-diy-embroidered-bag/ which also uses a great many of the stitches I teach and it's 8" squares, and then this zippered pouch, also using a great many of the stitches I teach: arianezurcher.com/shop/stitching-patterns-and-designs/diy-linen-wool-fully-lined-zippered-pouch/ is about 8" x 5.5". So as I said above, it really depends upon what I am interested in doing with it, once it's finished. Hope this helps!
Hello I just found your channel, your work is beautiful! I’m just beginning so I had a question. Would you whip stitch all of your pieces and then if you wanted to do a blanket stitch and then do a blanket stitch or would you just do a blanket stitch if you were doing a piece and not do a whip stitch? I see a lot of people doing wool appliqué that frame other pieces with a blanket stitch is why I’m asking so I’m just trying to understand the differences in when you would use a whip stitch versus a blanket stitch? Sorry if that sounds very simple. Just a beginner here. Can’t wait to see more videos, I did subscribe
Hi Crystal - it’s a great question! Most people use one or the other. I like whipstitching because I can then use whatever stitches I like in addition. But typically people use the blanket stitch the way I’m using the whipstitching. ❤️
So this stitch shows on the edge eh?in applique you hide it as best you can but I see you use those little stitches for goning through are your decoratingI have to forget my applique stitch and follow you thanks very much
Just to let you know that even 4 years later your videos are being watched. I really appreciate them. Thank you from NZ
Aw.. thank you so much. It's really nice to see people are finding even the really old ones! That's great!❤️
lol I’m looking back over your videos too. Love em
Oh my gosh, yes you are!! 😂❤️😂
Thanks. I’ve had trouble with points for a long time.
I hope this helped! ❤️
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent
Thx so much Pam.
A helpful video. Thank you, Ariane!
I'm so glad! ❤️

Hi Jean, wonderful! YEs, I've done a number of them, but here's one that speaks directly about that: th-cam.com/video/M7__agxwWjA/w-d-xo.html

when you work on a sampler~ project what size back drop do you use? I would like it it to be maybe large enough to make something out of it???

Yes, unlike with appliqué fabric, these stitches show, but will disappear once the embellishment stitching begins.
Wonderful video ! Thank you. What is your favorite scissors?
When traveling I like the tiny Japanese snips that Sue carries on her site. For everyday I use Friskars Easy Action I think it’s a 2” blade.
