Sooch, I love your videos. I do. I'm a USMC veteran and long time prepping/survivalist and I've just got to say, you have a lot of wonderful bug out gear in your truck but who or what platoon of guys are you going to get to carry all that crap into the woods? Your plan is just abandon your bob? As a practical matter people should make up one bob that has the bare necessities so that you don't have to abandon life saving supplies. Don't carry a lot of water. Two canteens at most but have an on the go filter or sterilization tablets. A way to heat food/water. Some freeze dried food. Maybe a few MRE's. Extra wool socks & clothing. It will keep you warm even when wet. Ammunition boxes? No. Put your extra ammo in something like a Crown Royal sack or something form fitting. Some parachord and a small tarp for a quick shelter. Waterproof fire starting. A camp axe and a woodsman's collapsible tree saw. A good strong knife. Brother, that flashlight is huge and probably quite heavy. There are smaller lights that are just as powerful. Two way radio. A decent first aid bag with clotting agents, 3 tourniquets, anibiotics, gauze, sutures, pain meds, needles, thread, scalpel, iodine, etc. A light sleeping pad and the lightest warmest sleeping bag you can find. You need a smaller waterproof map and a good compass. A pair of camouflage fatigues. And y'all had hang guns and yeah carry a hand gun, but one of those people had four different caliber handguns. Smh. That couple should carry the same caliber and if possible so should the whole group. I didn't see one rifle. Someone with a handgun doesn't stand a chance against a decent rifleman. I recommend 9mm high capacity 16rd handguns and AR15's in .556. That way if someone has .223 ammunition it can be fired with any rifle but .223 rifles can't fire .556 ammo. Just as a side note. You have some nice bug out stuff. Get a bug out location and bring it there and stash it well. Don't ditch your preps unless you have to. Be safe, be of good courage, keep American values alive in your children and stay healthy. God bless 🙏
I was listening to you talking about flash lights and thought i would mention the crank flash light. Its not super bright but we have had four of these at the cottage for 5 years now and they work as good as the day we bought them. We leave them all winter and never take them home. They just work every time we need them. No changing batteries, I love them.
31:15 I would not "throw it out". If you have too much to carry on the road - CACHE it. So if the situation allows or becomes necessary, you can retrieve the gear at a later point in time.
Planning an alternative bugout camp is a good idea. You can store bugout kits in caches. This weekend I'll cache mylar blankets, ponchos, fire making kits, extra clothing, and food and water, torches and cordage.

There are a few things I'd like to comment on, but first I'd just like to say, well done for having a plan and practicing it, great video. The first thing I'd like to point out is that nobody should have anything in their pack that is still in the packaging, apart from the obvious weight issues when it's all added up, it's so easy to open something up only to find it doesn't work, even something so simple as a lighter. Secondly, this is mainly to those that have left comments regarding people using camo style packs, first, many have said it makes you a bigger target, I would say the opposite is true, if like people have said it makes you appear more prepared, then doesn't it also ring true that you would maybe think there is a good chance that the person would be armed, so it's a safer option stealing from somebody that doesn't look like they were ready for whatever situation is currently underway. Also, if that really is a big concern, but a waterproof cover in some other colour.
I enjoyed watching this video. I believe these folks are your everyday type people with a common mindset to be prepared... and in my opinion, having a bug out plan and executing it is paramount to being prepared. This community conducted their exercise extremely well. I've read many comments dismissing the value of bugging out... which I say - "Bugging out is inevitable, therefore, it should be high priority in everyone preps because you never know if your home can be compromised." What I retrieved from this video is motivation to conduct a similar routine with my family and friends. Thanks so much Sootch. You're the best!
I just take my kids on camping trips often, make them prepare their own backpacks, etc. Good way to train to bug out and have fun while disguised as a family fun weekend all in one lol
I'm going to be doing the same thing with my son. He wants to go camping and I want to teach him survival skills. Making fires, finding and filtering water, making shelter, etc etc. Hell, just last night I amazed him just by tieing my hair back into a ponytail and a hidden bun with just my own hair, no hair ties, lol. He was like wow! How'd you do that! Lol. I told him that if he thought that was awesome just wait till I show him what else I can do lol.
Practice makes perfect, drills build confidence and will aid you if needs be. The old military axiom that you will never rise to the occasion but always fall back to the level of your training still holds true. Very well done.
Meanwhile, 6 years later... this is one of the best preparation videos I've seen. It's interesting to see the different things different people pack. This video certainly has me thinking of how I can be better prepared. I'm with Engineer; I have the Bible sealed in a large zip lock bag in my cargo box. Consider 1 and 2 gallon zip lock bags for everything. Zip lock bags save room by eliminating product packaging while protecting against rain or simple condensation. You can also seal individual magazines in zip log bags with silica desiccant packs. Looks like you have a great cross-section of friends. When SHTF, knowing people with different skill sets (and perspectives) will be an asset. Great video and ideas. Thank you!
Very little prep for sleeping. • good coverall (think mechanic or garbage pickup workers) • warm pair of socks that doesn't restrict blood flow Warm pair of gloves a size bigger than usual ( we swell a bit while we sleep) • a compact hammock All of that doesn't take much space and you can hang the hammock where you are going to hang the tarp. This is obviously a plan in case the plan fails. If you can't make it to the agreed place for whatever reason and need to ditch your car, you still need to sleep.
Really great vid. Many of these people seem really disorganized, thats the only thing that concerns me. The reality is that in an emergency situation youre going to have all types of people, including the elderly and handicapped. I'm not really sure why so many of the commenters seem to think that the thin people are the ones that are going to make it. I'd assume nothing of the kind. I'd also not assume that you'll be able to stay with your vehicle. I hope all of these people can walk with their gear. I was kinda concerned over the lady with all of the blankets in her trunk and no way to carry water with her Anyway really good vid.
This is an excellent example of the real world preps most people make. This preparation of this group is all over the map, some are squared away, others need more quality training. I organize this way. My BOB contains all the essential items. But, my additional food, water and other supplies with go in large duffel bags.
I keep seeing these lightweight small bug out bags, and when I look at my 60 lb pack, I just feel like I'm doing something wrong. It occurred to me while watching the video that part of the difference is most people are focused on 72 hours in a moderate to warm climate. If I'm strapping on my bug out bag and my wife strapping on hers, it is the end of the world as we know it and there is no reprieve in 72 hours. The and perhaps biggest disparity in the pack sizes and weights is I'm prepared to bug out at 30 below zero, whereas most I see are prepared to bug out at room temperature or a little cooler.
You're more preparing an I.N.C.H bag (I'm Not Coming Home bag). 70 pounds is ideal, as long as you can carry. As Sooch says, 1ounce carried, quickly becomes 1 pound ect. Do what suits you, your family, your circumstances and your environment. Stay safe ❤
I use to think videos like these were crazy. Then, I went through hurricane IKE and saw the lack of preparation from the main stream population. Now I have a car bag in both of my vehicles, a larger bug out bag in the house and plenty of supplies. I am no longer ignorant on this issue, thanks to videos like this. Subscribed!
To all of you saying these people are old and over weight. The truth is, in a Life or Death situation that dosen't matter. I was working in a Citgo chemical plant when a major explosion occurred (2 Died) I saw a guy that was 200 lbs. overweight run fast as slim, young guys, and he climbed a 8 foot barbed wire fence and ran another half mile as fast as he needed to. WILL TO LIVE IS 90 %.

The overall idea is good. In a panic situation when whole towns are being evacuated,you may have to leave your vehicle though. I backpack every other week. Normally for 72 hrs. I have a 30 lbs pack with everything to survive. It's in my truck all the time ready to go. Some people with items spread out in huge containers in their vehicle,will just have to leave that stuff behind.
as long as you have what you need in you pack - it is still good to have the extra containers as well. if you don't have to ditch you car then you will more for your comfort, if you do have to ditch it - oh well, it would have been lost if you left it at home as well. grab your pack and ditch the rest. kind the "hope for the best but expect the worst" mindset
I have a thought. When bug-out y'all might want to take off rings and watches and put them somewhere out of sight. I have a small jewelry bag for my wedding ring. Even if you are armed a shiny ring or watch might cause a situation you don't want.
while this may be an older video im only halfway through it and im already rethinking my bags I need to pack up im a frequent hiker and do a lot of outdoor activity and yet I still find myself revising my gear and setups regularly
Something most people aren't considering is dragging small children on a bug out. I would recommend having a way to transport a child either by a heavy duty stroller with wheels for rugged terrain or a pack style carrier for your child. There is no way a small child will be able to walk long distances if you have to leave your vehicle. Another thing is a leash system for toddlers and smaller children so they don't get lost in a crowd. Also keep up to date photos so that if you do get separated you have that to show people who might have seen your child. Little ones are often difficult to drink water. I suggest the flavored drops you can put in their water so they will drink it and not get dehydrated. In a stressful situation, children will often refuse food and water. A few small busy things for them is also a good idea, a puzzle or coloring book, card games like fish. You should also include in your B.O.B. is an emergency fishing kit. Just my 2 cents! BEST "BUG OUT" VIDEO I'VE SEEN RECENTLY ! Concept of a "joint exercise" as noted is SUPERB ! Most preppers have never actually put their plans to a test - or worse, have NO real plan aside from "hitting the road". And this lack of actual testing is FAR WORSE when you consider their families, who may or may not consider prepping important. GREAT VIDEO !

Such fun! Thanks! Also think abt labeling each persons back pack on the outside with initials and last name and the inside with full names, phone #, and another contact person. I traveled from S. CA to TX via Amtrak, everyones bags look the same. We are a retired military so we bought on base some glow in the dark hanging name tags that you can write your names on, so each person will know who's bag is who's even when under stressful conditions.
I know of one very important thing that I don't think I heard a single person in the group say that they had with them and it's one thing I can't live without.... sharpening stone. I have a passion for knives and I hate dull knives. My kids joke that all I'd have to do is point one of my knives at somebody and it would cut them LOLOLOLOL!!! Seriously though, if you've bugged out and are in a camp setup situation, you will probably want to sharpen a stick or cut rope or make a notch in some wood (fire saw). Well that'd be awful hard to do with a dull knife!!
Great bugout bags. Don't forget at least 3 ways to make fire. I've got flint and steel, ferro, fresnel and lighters. Also you need tinder, and candles.
Miss titled your video, should of been exercise for preparedness. I was expecting a video of the bug out night not one on going over everyone's equipment
This is not a mis-titled video because they literally bugged out to this location and later did inventory. 0:56 They were given 45 minutes to gather everything they have for a bug out in an unexpected moment's notice. Then, they would all bug out to meet them in one predetermined location. Doing inventory once you're at your location is an important step too. Therefore, this is by definition a Bug Out. I know this is an older comment, but at least you know now.
Remember this is an exercise. Sootch is trying to help everyone out so they have a fighting chance. Honestly this is awesome and thank you for doing this. This really inspires and motivates me to get together with family and friends and make sure we are prepared. Thanks for what you do Sootch!

I've been trying to have this conversation with my wife lately. She's interested in run and gun activities, camping, hiking, and the ilk. However, I tell her, she needs to build some conditioning first otherwise 10 minutes into any of these activities she'll be ready to go home.
cz75fanatic You could try getting her out there to those activities so she can see how demanding - and fun - they are. Then she'll be more motivated to prepare.
@@cz75fanatic Even if you don't carry anything and you have to all of a sudden walk out of a situation for 10 or 12 miles, you're not going to even want to move the next day! Being physically fit is no longer an option; it's imperative to be safe! Also, don't forget wool socks and good leather footwear that's broken in, and lots of extra underwear! If you get blisters on your feet and/or nasties in your crouch, you're not going too far, nor will you be very useful!

When it comes to prepping - organization is the key. It seems that most of the people in the video are lacking this. Incredible. I can't understand how they can have their trunks so messy.. For most of them - especially the three ladies, everything seemed tossed around and things were even carried in open shopping/grocery bags. Also, incredible. At least most of the open bags very made of toughter material than basic plastic. It seems to be most about having most ammo. Sootch seems to be the only one to actually have some sort of control when it comes to the trunk, and knows most about the topics around prepping etc.

Just a little side note, for your kids or even yourself, consider adding to your kit steroid inhalers like symbicort. You never know when a respiratory infection could get out of hand. They are small but carry up to 160 doses in each tube.
james ranger As someone in the medical field who also has asthma I highly advise against this. This medication is only for preventative asthmatics, meaning it helps dialate bronchiole tubes to prevent asthma attacks. It has nasty side effects, and is not for the treatment of a respiratory infection. I'm not trying to be rude, but this is terrible advise.
awesome video. One thing I noticed that no one had were glowsticks. I think they're good for marking locations, distractions, and a somewhat decent light source.
This was an excellent video. An unexpected call to show up prepped and ready. That is the whole purpose of preparing ahead of time. It has been 6 yrs since this video. You have some great videos that help many with their planning and preps for any potential emergency - man or nature made. I haven't read all of the replies so apologies if my comment has already been covered - Comment:What about elderly, the disabled members of the family and of course pets? How do you care for these in your bug out plans.
One consideration that a group will need to discuss - cell phones. While many reading this will know exactly what I am referencing, others may think the idea to be "paranoid". We are all committed to preparing for the unknown. Some of us have spent more time than the average person studying subjects which many find distasteful, ludicrous, or scary. One of these subjects involves the bigger picture of Big Brother. One person with a cell phone can/will give away - at the very least - positioning. At worst, the group demographics and travel habits can be charted. BE AWARE!! This should be discussed at length, preferably over a multi month period of time. Outstanding video - I find motivation many days by simply playing these type of proactive videos as "background noise". With so many people not preparing at all, it is nice to know that there are still people around who are intelligent enough to prepare. Respectfully, b
one concern for you guys.... First, great job mobbing up quickly, however, what's with all the brand new gear? Open that stuff up and use it, get to know your gear. The last thing anyone needs is to have to learn your gear when you are already bugging out

great vid and excellent sharing of ideas. I still think there may have been to many items in their original packages sitting in those bags that have never been opened or tested. Thanks to E775 for the powerpot. I hadn't seen those before. I'm also a minimal packer, I guess because I tend to hike and would use much of the same gear because it's tested, reliable and it's always in my pack ready to hit the trail. That said, I appreciated the concept of packing everything and dropping what you don't need if the scenario requires it. Nice tip. As an amateur radio operator, I place high priority on comms. It would be great to have some HF radios available for greater distance as well as the local uhf/vhf stuff for in group comms.

Good exercise, Sootch! I particularly like that you're teaching your small children on basic self reliance, with their own gear AND having radios to keep in touch in the event of separation!
Just a quick thought here most of the peoples kits were incredibly hap hazardly put together, I like to know where all of my items are that's why my bag is a 5.11 rush 72, it has brilliant compartmentilisation and molle attachments. (Just so we're clear I'm not being a tit just what I thought, I think getting together and sharing ideas is a great idea) thanks for sharing the video.
I like Omega seeker and Mrs. Sherry's set up, keeping all the bug out bags in containers good way to keep everything together until you need to add more or to bug out, I usually just have all my gear in bags but never thought about the containers everyone did a good job

You guys should not just prep your gear but also prep phyiscally, so some back packing trips with your gear for 1 to 2 weeks straight and u will find out fast how much u need to work out, and also whats really essential to have on a bug out bag, for me I can survive on about 20 pounds of gear including my sleeping bag and shit, for a week. Just some food for thought
Hey folks. I love what you are doing here. Building a community of trusted individuals, practicing, discussing, show & tell. I would like to suggest that many people that are commenting about being unprepared may have many more resources already in their possession than they realize. If you have been camping in the last five years with your own gear, then you probably have 3/4 of what you need or want to make it through the 72 hour panic. IF you start trading luxury for minimal necessity.
@Sootch00, I don't mean to be a troll and I know that you are generally very thorough in your editing but I thought that it might be relevant to mention that you showed a lot of license plate numbers of your friends' cars on this video. How do you feel about cross bows for my children they are 15 and 17 years old.. My daughter has desided to make her self look more boyish so she dont have to worrie about men going after her and she thought about that all by her self... Hey Sootch - It seemed like so many were ill prepared to go on foot with those supplies and what appeared to be last minute preparations. Not looking good for those affected, that's for sure. Since your muster, have you tried this again to see if people have done better or taken it further? I would be interested in how your community worked together.
Living in Ukraine during the war, I can say that all the equipment should be as civil as possible, not the military. All military and even the type of green coyote, olive causes an unhealthy interest. So you can call the fire itself, perhaps even friendly fire. Military suitable only for natural disasters, but will complicate your salvation, because you will be less noticeable. All military equipment such as knives will be taken away by military any of the warring parties.
I have always thought that much of the gear you see people using in these kinds of videos would draw unwanted attention. Especially stuff like body armor with a bunch of ammo strapped to it and tons of camo stuff. I bet that was a crazy place to be, glad you made it through alive.
@@jayn8392 trust me you're correct. This is not Greyman ideology at all. 2/3 of this stuff they couldn't carry a mile let alone ruck it for days. Gear is not a substitute for experience and skills.
Everyone needs vhf uhf ham radios... and the frequencies that friends can be found on. If you dont have a place you know you are going then you might have some issue... big farms, miles from any major city... everyone knows they are on the same page. On that ultimate site it better be set up now and operating just waiting for that unfortunate news and the incoming like minded people.
Knowing how to use the tools, and things helps too. Compressed tp is wonderful too and doesnt take up a lot of room. Something else to keep in mind is the type of bag used. If a desperate person saw a "tactical" or military type bag that is the first place they will focus on for supplies in a group on foot. change the bags to colorful ones, hello kitty, my little pony, etc. and they may not give it a second glance. Great video and idea of getting the group together and knowing skills of people too.
Great learning and training video here. I gotta say I really enjoy reading all these comments from GAMERS who think because they can beat a game after DYING in that game hundreds of times they think they can beat anyone, anything and that their GANG of other internet warrior gamer friends will be able to outwit, and out fight people who are and have been training for survival situations. Just think, they vote too and they are part of the problem that we're in now, I wish they would go back to their video game training videos and leave the real stuff to us real Patriots that are ready and preparing for the coming eradication of ignorance from our beloved Country.
jay ronaldo De Allasandro I'd like to point out that the strong need the weak, and I'll explain. These weaker older people have certain skills worth protecting. Doctors, Dentists, ect. Now I'm not saying they shouldn't try to make strides to become stronger, I'm saying they still deserve the respect fitting their station. It's one thing to be strong, but germs don't care if you're the fittest person on the planet they'll still kick your nads.

You should do an updated version of this, I'd love to see how everyone's set up has evolved over time. A couple of things i noticed, most of those people desperately need to organize their gear into kits, it's all just stuffed in their bags willy nilly, and it also looks like they've never tested their gear. That could end up being a fatal mistake.
Another thing I've done is is added a dolly to my truck load. This increases the amount of water you can take, it can also serve as an emergency liter for anyone who can't walk, or use it as a pack camel. It is much easier to pull weight than it is to carry weight.
A couple of things I would like to comment on .. 1) If using vehicles in a group think about CB's as comms during travel .. another way would be to use civilian legal hf/vhf/uhf radios with same freq sets .. issue with cb's is that they might be full of ash and trash chatter of everyone else on all channels .. 2) non gps modes of navigation .. ie .. map and compass .. I saw lots of maps .. few compasses .. AND LEARN to use them .. 3) Use your gear .. learn to fix it because you have used it instead of bringing all new and freaking out when something breaks .. 4) knowledge(skills) saves lives .. gear saves time .. one is more important than the other ..

Extra wool socks & clothing. It will keep you warm even when wet. Ammunition boxes? No. Put your extra ammo in something like a Crown Royal sack or something form fitting. Some parachord and a small tarp for a quick shelter. Waterproof fire starting. A camp axe and a woodsman's collapsible tree saw. A good strong knife. Brother, that flashlight is huge and probably quite heavy. There are smaller lights that are just as powerful. Two way radio. A decent first aid bag with clotting agents, 3 tourniquets, anibiotics, gauze, sutures, pain meds, needles, thread, scalpel, iodine, etc. A light sleeping pad and the lightest warmest sleeping bag you can find. You need a smaller waterproof map and a good compass. A pair of camouflage fatigues. And y'all had hang guns and yeah carry a hand gun, but one of those people had four different caliber handguns. Smh. That couple should carry the same caliber and if possible so should the whole group. I didn't see one rifle. Someone with a handgun doesn't stand a chance against a decent rifleman. I recommend 9mm high capacity 16rd handguns and AR15's in .556. That way if someone has .223 ammunition it can be fired with any rifle but .223 rifles can't fire .556 ammo. Just as a side note. You have some nice bug out stuff. Get a bug out location and bring it there and stash it well. Don't ditch your preps unless you have to. I was listening to you talking about flash lights and thought i would mention the crank flash light. Its not super bright but we have had four of these at the cottage for 5 years now and they work as good as the day we bought them. We leave them all winter and never take them home. They just work every time we need them. No changing batteries, I love them.
31:15 I would not "throw it out". If you have too much to carry on the road - CACHE it. So if the situation allows or becomes necessary, you can retrieve the gear at a later point in time.

A great item for caches are coolers, they keep everything clean and sealed for water!
Planning an alternative bugout camp is a good idea. You can store bugout kits in caches. This weekend I'll cache mylar blankets, ponchos, fire making kits, extra clothing, and food and water, torches and cordage.

There are a few things I'd like to comment on, but first I'd just like to say, well done for having a plan and practicing it, great video.
The first thing I'd like to point out is that nobody should have anything in their pack that is still in the packaging, apart from the obvious weight issues when it's all added up, it's so easy to open something up only to find it doesn't work, even something so simple as a lighter.
Secondly, this is mainly to those that have left comments regarding people using camo style packs, first, many have said it makes you a bigger target, I would say the opposite is true, if like people have said it makes you appear more prepared, then doesn't it also ring true that you would maybe think there is a good chance that the person would be armed, so it's a safer option stealing from somebody that doesn't look like they were ready for whatever situation is currently underway.
Also, if that really is a big concern, but a waterproof cover in some other colour.
I enjoyed watching this video. I believe these folks are your everyday type people with a common mindset to be prepared... and in my opinion, having a bug out plan and executing it is paramount to being prepared. This community conducted their exercise extremely well. I've read many comments dismissing the value of bugging out... which I say - "Bugging out is inevitable, therefore, it should be high priority in everyone preps because you never know if your home can be compromised." What I retrieved from this video is motivation to conduct a similar routine with my family and friends. Thanks so much Sootch. You're the best!
I just take my kids on camping trips often, make them prepare their own backpacks, etc. Good way to train to bug out and have fun while disguised as a family fun weekend all in one lol

I'm going to be doing the same thing with my son. He wants to go camping and I want to teach him survival skills. Making fires, finding and filtering water, making shelter, etc etc. Hell, just last night I amazed him just by tieing my hair back into a ponytail and a hidden bun with just my own hair, no hair ties, lol. He was like wow! How'd you do that! Lol. I told him that if he thought that was awesome just wait till I show him what else I can do lol.

Meanwhile, 6 years later... this is one of the best preparation videos I've seen. It's interesting to see the different things different people pack. This video certainly has me thinking of how I can be better prepared. I'm with Engineer; I have the Bible sealed in a large zip lock bag in my cargo box. Consider 1 and 2 gallon zip lock bags for everything. Zip lock bags save room by eliminating product packaging while protecting against rain or simple condensation. You can also seal individual magazines in zip log bags with silica desiccant packs. Looks like you have a great cross-section of friends. When SHTF, knowing people with different skill sets (and perspectives) will be an asset. Great video and ideas. Thank you!
Very little prep for sleeping.
• good coverall (think mechanic or garbage pickup workers)
• warm pair of socks that doesn't restrict blood flow
Warm pair of gloves a size bigger than usual ( we swell a bit while we sleep)
• a compact hammock
All of that doesn't take much space and you can hang the hammock where you are going to hang the tarp.
This is obviously a plan in case the plan fails. If you can't make it to the agreed place for whatever reason and need to ditch your car, you still need to sleep.

The reality is that in an emergency situation youre going to have all types of people, including the elderly and handicapped. I'm not really sure why so many of the commenters seem to think that the thin people are the ones that are going to make it. I'd assume nothing of the kind.
I'd also not assume that you'll be able to stay with your vehicle. I hope all of these people can walk with their gear. I was kinda concerned over the lady with all of the blankets in her trunk and no way to carry water with her

This is an excellent example of the real world preps most people make. This preparation of this group is all over the map, some are squared away, others need more quality training. I organize this way. My BOB contains all the essential items. But, my additional food, water and other supplies with go in large duffel bags.
I keep seeing these lightweight small bug out bags, and when I look at my 60 lb pack, I just feel like I'm doing something wrong. It occurred to me while watching the video that part of the difference is most people are focused on 72 hours in a moderate to warm climate. If I'm strapping on my bug out bag and my wife strapping on hers, it is the end of the world as we know it and there is no reprieve in 72 hours. The and perhaps biggest disparity in the pack sizes and weights is I'm prepared to bug out at 30 below zero, whereas most I see are prepared to bug out at room temperature or a little cooler.
Do whats best for you and your fam. Learn what you can and apply what you can

You're more preparing an I.N.C.H bag (I'm Not Coming Home bag). 70 pounds is ideal, as long as you can carry. As Sooch says, 1ounce carried, quickly becomes 1 pound ect.

I use to think videos like these were crazy. Then, I went through hurricane IKE and saw the lack of preparation from the main stream population. To all of you saying these people are old and over weight. The truth is, in a Life or Death situation that dosen't matter. I was working in a Citgo chemical plant when a major explosion occurred (2 Died) I saw a guy that was 200 lbs. overweight run fast as slim, young guys, and he climbed a 8 foot barbed wire fence and ran another half mile as fast as he needed to. WILL TO LIVE IS 90 %.

great to see your group has a plan that is rehearsed from time to time. Hope there is no need for an evacuation.
The overall idea is good. In a panic situation when whole towns are being evacuated,you may have to leave your vehicle though.
I backpack every other week. Normally for 72 hrs. I have a 30 lbs pack with everything to survive. It's in my truck all the time ready to go.
Some people with items spread out in huge containers in their vehicle,will just have to leave that stuff behind.
as long as you have what you need in you pack - it is still good to have the extra containers as well. if you don't have to ditch you car then you will more for your comfort, if you do have to ditch it - oh well, it would have been lost if you left it at home as well. grab your pack and ditch the rest. kind the "hope for the best but expect the worst" mindset

Something most people aren't considering is dragging small children on a bug out. I would recommend having a way to transport a child either by a heavy duty stroller with wheels for rugged terrain or a pack style carrier for your child. There is no way a small child will be able to walk long distances if you have to leave your vehicle. Another thing is a leash system for toddlers and smaller children so they don't get lost in a crowd. Also keep up to date photos so that if you do get separated you have that to show people who might have seen your child. Little ones are often difficult to drink water. I suggest the flavored drops you can put in their water so they will drink it and not get dehydrated. In a stressful situation, children will often refuse food and water. A few small busy things for them is also a good idea, a puzzle or coloring book, card games like fish.
You should also include in your B.O.B. is an emergency fishing kit. Just my 2 cents! Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Most preppers have never actually put their plans to a test - or worse, have NO real plan aside from "hitting the road". And this lack of actual testing is FAR WORSE when you consider their families, who may or may not consider prepping important. GREAT VIDEO !

Such fun! Thanks! Also think abt labeling each persons back pack on the outside with initials and last name and the inside with full names, phone #, and another contact person. I traveled from S. CA to TX via Amtrak, everyones bags look the same. We are a retired military so we bought on base some glow in the dark hanging name tags that you can write your names on, so each person will know who's bag is who's even when under stressful conditions.
I know of one very important thing that I don't think I heard a single person in the group say that they had with them and it's one thing I can't live without.... sharpening stone. I have a passion for knives and I hate dull knives. My kids joke that all I'd have to do is point one of my knives at somebody and it would cut them LOLOLOLOL!!! Seriously though, if you've bugged out and are in a camp setup situation, you will probably want to sharpen a stick or cut rope or make a notch in some wood (fire saw). Well that'd be awful hard to do with a dull knife!!
Great bugout bags. Don't forget at least 3 ways to make fire. I've got flint and steel, ferro, fresnel and lighters. Also you need tinder, and candles.

This is not a mis-titled video because they literally bugged out to this location and later did inventory. 0:56 They were given 45 minutes to gather everything they have for a bug out in an unexpected moment's notice. Then, they would all bug out to meet them in one predetermined location. Doing inventory once you're at your location is an important step too. Therefore, this is by definition a Bug Out. I know this is an older comment, but at least you know now.
Remember this is an exercise. Sootch is trying to help everyone out so they have a fighting chance. Honestly this is awesome and thank you for doing this. This really inspires and motivates me to get together with family and friends and make sure we are prepared. Thanks for what you do Sootch!

I've been trying to have this conversation with my wife lately. She's interested in run and gun activities, camping, hiking, and the ilk. However, I tell her, she needs to build some conditioning first otherwise 10 minutes into any of these activities she'll be ready to go home.

@@cz75fanatic Even if you don't carry anything and you have to all of a sudden walk out of a situation for 10 or 12 miles, you're not going to even want to move the next day! Being physically fit is no longer an option; it's imperative to be safe! Also, don't forget wool socks and good leather footwear that's broken in, and lots of extra underwear! If you get blisters on your feet and/or nasties in your crouch, you're not going too far, nor will you be very useful!

When it comes to prepping - organization is the key. It seems that most of the people in the video are lacking this. Incredible.
I can't understand how they can have their trunks so messy.. For most of them - especially the three ladies, everything seemed tossed around and things were even carried in open shopping/grocery bags. Also, incredible. At least most of the open bags very made of toughter material than basic plastic. It seems to be most about having most ammo. Sootch seems to be the only one to actually have some sort of control when it comes to the trunk, and knows most about the topics around prepping etc.

Just a little side note, for your kids or even yourself, consider adding to your kit steroid inhalers like symbicort. You never know when a respiratory infection could get out of hand. They are small but carry up to 160 doses in each tube.
james ranger As someone in the medical field who also has asthma I highly advise against this. This medication is only for preventative asthmatics, meaning it helps dialate bronchiole tubes to prevent asthma attacks. It has nasty side effects, and is not for the treatment of a respiratory infection. I'm not trying to be rude, but this is terrible advise.

You have some great videos that help many with their planning and preps for any potential emergency - man or nature made. I haven't read all of the replies so apologies if my comment has already been covered - Comment:What about elderly, the disabled members of the family and of course pets? How do you care for these in your bug out plans.
One consideration that a group will need to discuss - cell phones. While many reading this will know exactly what I am referencing, others may think the idea to be "paranoid". We are all committed to preparing for the unknown. Some of us have spent more time than the average person studying subjects which many find distasteful, ludicrous, or scary. One of these subjects involves the bigger picture of Big Brother. One person with a cell phone can/will give away - at the very least - positioning. At worst, the group demographics and travel habits can be charted. BE AWARE!!
This should be discussed at length, preferably over a multi month period of time.
Outstanding video - I find motivation many days by simply playing these type of proactive videos as "background noise". With so many people not preparing at all, it is nice to know that there are still people around who are intelligent enough to prepare.

I'm also a minimal packer, I guess because I tend to hike and would use much of the same gear because it's tested, reliable and it's always in my pack ready to hit the trail.
That said, I appreciated the concept of packing everything and dropping what you don't need if the scenario requires it. Nice tip.
As an amateur radio operator, I place high priority on comms.
It would be great to have some HF radios available for greater distance as well as the local uhf/vhf stuff for in group comms.
I always close the lid of my toilet, I'm always prepared when SHTF.

Just a quick thought here most of the peoples kits were incredibly hap hazardly put together, I like to know where all of my items are that's why my bag is a 5.11 rush 72, it has brilliant compartmentilisation and molle attachments. (Just so we're clear I'm not being a tit just what I thought, I think getting together and sharing ideas is a great idea) thanks for sharing the video.

You guys should not just prep your gear but also prep phyiscally, so some back packing trips with your gear for 1 to 2 weeks straight and u will find out fast how much u need to work out, and also whats really essential to have on a bug out bag, for me I can survive on about 20 pounds of gear including my sleeping bag and shit, for a week. Just some food for thought

I would like to suggest that many people that are commenting about being unprepared may have many more resources already in their possession than they realize. If you have been camping in the last five years with your own gear, then you probably have 3/4 of what you need or want to make it through the 72 hour panic. IF you start trading luxury for minimal necessity.

Hey Sootch - It seemed like so many were ill prepared to go on foot with those supplies and what appeared to be last minute preparations. Not looking good for those affected, that's for sure.

Living in Ukraine during the war, I can say that all the equipment should be as civil as possible, not the military. All military and even the type of green coyote, olive causes an unhealthy interest. So you can call the fire itself, perhaps even friendly fire. Military suitable only for natural disasters, but will complicate your salvation, because you will be less noticeable. All military equipment such as knives will be taken away by military any of the warring parties.
I have No experience in what you are saying but it all makes perfect sense.
You have a very unique perspective on this and I would much rather take information from you than anyone else. Any more pointers?
I have always thought that much of the gear you see people using in these kinds of videos would draw unwanted attention. Especially stuff like body armor with a bunch of ammo strapped to it and tons of camo stuff. I bet that was a crazy place to be, glad you made it through alive.
@@jayn8392 trust me you're correct. This is not Greyman ideology at all. 2/3 of this stuff they couldn't carry a mile let alone ruck it for days. Gear is not a substitute for experience and skills.

If you dont have a place you know you are going then you might have some issue... big farms, miles from any major city... everyone knows they are on the same page. Knowing how to use the tools, and things helps too. Compressed tp is wonderful too and doesnt take up a lot of room. Something else to keep in mind is the type of bag used. If a desperate person saw a "tactical" or military type bag that is the first place they will focus on for supplies in a group on foot. change the bags to colorful ones, hello kitty, my little pony, etc. and they may not give it a second glance. Great video and idea of getting the group together and knowing skills of people too.
Great learning and training video here. I gotta say I really enjoy reading all these comments from GAMERS who think because they can beat a game after DYING in that game hundreds of times they think they can beat anyone, anything and that their GANG of other internet warrior gamer friends will be able to outwit, and out fight people who are and have been training for survival situations.

Now I'm not saying they shouldn't try to make strides to become stronger, I'm saying they still deserve the respect fitting their station.

You should do an updated version of this, I'd love to see how everyone's set up has evolved over time. A couple of things i noticed, most of those people desperately need to organize their gear into kits, it's all just stuffed in their bags willy nilly, and it also looks like they've never tested their gear. That could end up being a fatal mistake.
I keep 3oz. (about $100) of silver in my BOB, figure I can carry less then barter for what I need.
Another thing I've done is is added a dolly to my truck load. This increases the amount of water you can take, it can also serve as an emergency liter for anyone who can't walk, or use it as a pack camel. It is much easier to pull weight than it is to carry weight.
A couple of things I would like to comment on .. 1) If using vehicles in a group think about CB's as comms during travel .. another way would be to use civilian legal hf/vhf/uhf radios with same freq sets .. issue with cb's is that they might be full of ash and trash chatter of everyone else on all channels .. 2) non gps modes of navigation .. ie .. map and compass .. I saw lots of maps .. few compasses .. AND LEARN to use them .. 3) Use your gear .. learn to fix it because you have used it instead of bringing all new and freaking out when something breaks .. 4) knowledge(skills) saves lives .. gear saves time .. one is more important than the other ..
