    That's a nice looking boulder opal Roy. I would say definitely take your time with that one. I found out the hard way that it's easy to ruin a potential gem stone by jumping in to it scalp deep right off bat. Cut a little here and there put it up in between, work on other stones for a bit and before you know it the patience pays off and you have your self a nice gem. Thanks for the video Roy keep up the good work 👍✌️

      Yep I have a spot on the desk for pieces that need more thought. Currently 3 pieces sitting there and I just look at them each day.

    Nice video Roy. Some great color in there. I’d actually be interested in seeing a treatment, but only because it’s not mine...you’re right too, I’d did leave a bad taste in my mouth saying that..

      Yeah dont worry I had a chew on a bar of soap after finishing the recording to get the bad taste out of my mouth =)

    Great boulder, I’d cut a cushion or oval in the white where the orange flare is and make a small ring or pendant with the matrix (agree it’s the best boulder), get ride of the milky potch, it spoils a lovely stone.

      Yeah I think there is some potential with your idea. I'll whip out the stencils and have a look at the options.

      It's interesting that since changing there has been an increase in view time. I was also getting sick of the same free music all the time but I might mix it in every now and then.

    Hey roy great vid as always. Mate am I right in thinking for us hand cutters/dremel guys, the nova points are the next best thing to actually having a full wheel set up.? . They grind and kinda finish too? Thanks 👍

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah you are spot on. I am constantly looking for an alternative to the novas because they really are as close to a set of wheels as it gets. They are strong enough to grind but also fine enough to polish. They really are that good.
      There is one other option for a similar result and... I'll make some videos in the next two weeks on that style.

    I really like the variety of colours in this one, kind of looks like a nebula or distant galaxy

      You'll get that look quite a bit in boulder. Keep an eye out for stones that look like beaches. They are quite popular.

    Awesome piece of boulder there- lovely to see three different types of opal on the same face of a stone like this. I am totally with you on cutting that corner with the blue/green imbedded opal off it. I'm not a pro- but any thought to cutting along where that milky potch is to separate the stone that could be on the other side of it? Thanks as always!

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that is a possibility. Honestly thinking that the best video would be the highest risk process which would be to cut away the face and go all in... I'd never do it normally but for youtube... anything is on the table.

    Not a fan of Boulder opal. But, this one is beautiful! It almost looked like a waterfall scene to me. Lots of potential. Another great video!

    Hello! Any tips for a beginner in opal carving? Iv'e carved mabye 5opals but I always have the issue with, small scratches and like tiny "holes" in my opals. I am using Diamond bit 180grit and then the 4packet o nova tips. It's takes around 1.5-2h to carve the opals iv'e done.
    I dont know if the issue is that im running the bits on too high speed, if im pushing to hard or If it's just me not being carefull/patient enough.
    Any suggestions? :)

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi!
      Thanks for checking out the channel.
      This is a common issue and it could be for a number of reasons. Sounds like you have the right tools so I'd ask do you dry the opal between stages? This let's you check the progress as you go.

    • @tjocktjocken
      @tjocktjocken 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoysRocks Just a quick wipe with a paper towel to check.

    • @RoysRocks
      @RoysRocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tjocktjocken Yeah that should work. You'll get an understanding of how each stage should look with experience.
      When the surface should look foggy, when that should clear and so on.
