She was mesmerizing to watch. It’s not that she’s unladylike, she’s super ladylike. A graceful mover like Federer. More so.

There must be such a sense of history as a player walking onto Centre Court at Wimbledon
knowing that Suzanne Lenglen and every legend of tennis has played in it.

Don't count on it. Important tennis matches, if they were filmed at all, were filmed by newsreel companies. They weren't interested in recording full matches--just enough for a few minutes of film. This was the case well into the 1960s.

She is more fun to watch than any of the girls of 2024. Out of all the matches in Roland Garros, there was maybe one match worth watching. I think it is a scandal that they get paid the sale as men. I smile when I see the stadium half empty when the women play, thank you it is only three sets at the most.

@@reekhavoc2932 even took sips of brandy between ends during her matches. Died really young in 1938 of leukaemia aged 39. She came under fire from the Tennis World for going professional in 1926 and the open letter she wrote in response is as brilliant as it is scathing, directed towards the smug, entitled elites who looked down their noses at those who were not born into a world of privilege and social connection, who sought to make a living out of their talent.
