She is more fun to watch than any of the girls of 2024. Out of all the matches in Roland Garros, there was maybe one match worth watching. I think it is a scandal that they get paid the sale as men. I smile when I see the stadium half empty when the women play, thank you it is only three sets at the most.

She came under fire from the Tennis World for going professional in 1926 and the open letter she wrote in response is as brilliant as it is scathing, directed towards the smug, entitled elites who looked down their noses at those who were not born into a world of privilege and social connection, who sought to make a living out of their talent.
