You have some beautiful examples of those old reels there Mike.
I'm from the UK, and have only recently discovered the American Pfluegers (lovely reels, precision built in the USA, like my treasured Fender and Gibson guitars).
My first Pflueger (I think a Pflueger?) was a little Portage Seminole 40, then I got a Pflueger Pelican (strange looking, but beautiful to me), and my most recent Pflueger is a very pretty boxed 1941 Skilcast with the cork arbor and 6th faceplate scew; a smaller reel that I thought it would be, but it is in incredible condition (lightly used but very well cared for).
I am now hooked, as they say; my Pflueger journey has just started.
    Thank you for the inspiration.
    All the best,
    Paul

This video caused me to buy a Rocket 1375, absolutely love it! Wish it had more drag but it's a joy to use

How does it cast? Anywhere near as good as a Supreme (almost as well as my Ambassadeur c3)? As a diehard pike fisherman I've been pretty interested in those reels, but have not actually laid hands on one yet.

@@bushleague3472 I'm catfishing so distance is my primary concern, as for that it's excellent. It's probably not as good as an Abu for lures ect

Just found a J.A. Coxe Invader 26 (mint) that I had forgotten about years ago, and can't believe the price those are going for. I think I'll be using it this summer. I've got a handful of old Abu's, but they are common here. I seriously think I'll try fishing with vintage reels only. All the new stuff is hard for me to look at.

I found a 26 in my stuff too! Wonder why they are so coveted?

    • @keithhagler502

That's great!! Don't know why they are so desirable compared to others. I don't really see any special things about it. Maybe the numbers of them produced. That's always a factor. Maybe people think they are "prettier", I don't know. I always liked a good round baitcaster like that Pflueger Rocket. And glad you pulled out the ol' Zebco, I've got my old 202 here because the memories...like an old john boat that leaked...and how it pulled in a 6 lb. bass back when things were simpler.

I have a Pflueger Rocket 1355, much like the one shown, however I cannot seem to get it to cast. Maybe it needs oiling.

Hello K Brooks. My name is Shawn Beck. A friend just gave me a Rocket 1355 L with a Brule 5'6 steel rod in mint condition. It has black thread line on it. Cleaned reel with 70% alcohol swab's and pads. Then oiled the reel with a lube pin I bought a Menard's for $3.99. It seems to work fine. Only problem is. I have never casted this old of reel before. Cleaned the rod. It's also in mint condition. The rod and reel were put out in the trash. My friend also got a fly fishing rod and reel. In great condition too. I am looking for a booklet to tell me about the rocket and how to cast it. Just can't find a video either on this model. The rod is made of steel. Painted white made in Iron city Wisconsin. I use Quantum reel's for baitcasting fishing. Still have a pistol grip Ugly stick. I got in the early 80's with a Zebco vintage 33 close face reel. I use for wacky rig fishing. Just thought maybe you could shed some light on where I could find a booklet? There a screw on the side I think is for tensioning the spool. Its 20 degrees outside. I am dying to check this combo out. Shawn.

An old guy gave me a Zebco Hawg about fifteen years ago. It's been sitting in my garage unused since I got it. Just might have to get it out and give it a cleaning to see how well it works. Thanks for the heads up!

I have a Pflueger Summit fiberglass rod I just won in an auction! I would imagine I need to find a Summit reel to match. The rod currently has a Pflueger Trump reel. I'm trying to find a summit reel now, lucky you! Do you have any with the red "jewels" ?

Man, you have some nice reels! My buddy picked up a old 1950 ocean city 993 reel for me for 15$ at a antique shop. They don't hold much value collecting. Their 14/0 & 16/0 size reels do. More than penns. That 993 reel I took apart and someone poured motor oil in it probably 40+ years back. I basically serviced it myself, as I do all my reels, removing all that oil/grease took hours! I used penns blue grease and reelx oil and its like new! It's my striper and catfish reel. Even the cast control works and it was frozen when I got it. Some of the old ocean city reels even had leather drags and bakalite drags too. I would get it for sure! A lot of ol' timers compliment my 64 year old reel and mines all original! Tight lines!!!

Those look amazing! I've got two Penn reels, a 350 Leveline, and a Senator 4/0. The 350 is on a beautiful Daiwa 7ft rod, it's a nice brown with metal flake and the eyes are wrapped with orange and red. The senator is on a enormous bamboo rod.
