In August 2002 former Israeli Minister of Education Shulamit Aloni was interviewed on the radio and television program Democracy Now.
During the interview, she was asked:
Question: Often when there is dissent expressed in the United States against policies of the Israeli government, people here are called anti-Semitic. What is your response to that as an Israeli Jew?
    Shulamit Aloni replied:
“Well, it’s a trick, we always use it. When from Europe somebody is criticizing Israel, then we bring up the Holocaust. When in this country people are criticizing Israel, then they are anti-Semitic.”

Defending innocent civilians against genocide by a far superior enemy is something you should NEVER hesitate to speak up about. Esp. when your own country is complicit in those crimes.

What’s becoming so obvious to people now is that colonialism has never ended just rebranded with different terms. From Natives indigenous people being called “savages” in the old days to now being called “terrorist” by neocolonialists who are neoliberals, neoconservatives, and zionist.
      1) Savages is now “terrorist”
      2) Civilizing them is now “bringing them democracy”
      3) Colonies is now “territories”
We can all see Israel is a colonial project being supported by former and current colonials such as U.S, UK, and others who also control territories of indigenous natives in Caribbean Islands, Pacific Islands, Hawaii, and many more.
The liberation of Palestine will definitely give RISE to many indigenous natives around the world to free themselves from western domination. This is the underlying ripple effect that the U.S government and its puppet allies don’t want to happen

@@thinkbeforeyoutype7106 Yes, it's part of Israel's "hasbara" propaganda program. AIPAC has been paying our politicians to spread that bs for decades.

Thank you for saying this, Jamele! The slanted way Gaza is discussed in American media, particularly on CNN (especially by Tapper & Bash) was the last straw for why I no longer watch that channel. Any and everyone who says anything on behalf of the innocent civilians being murdered is immediately called antisemitic and are called to be canceled. Two things can be true at once: Israel can defend itself while also be called out on what most of the world (minus the US) sees a genocide being committed in Gaza.

The situation Gaza didn't start on Oct 7th. Reinforcing this idea is a big part of the problem. Also by committing genocide Israel no longer has a right to exist in its current apartheid genocidal state. No state like this has a RIGHT to exist.

It’s just a way of not discussing the root cause and we stay focused on these talking points so they keep committing these crimes there are literally thousands of hostages being held by Israel they only have the right to defend themselves in there territory because they are a occupying force they have weaponized there judaism you should talk to some Palestinian voices because this issue isn’t really that complicated

Thank you for your voice, Jemele. It's so important to see people stand against this in America. An honest video and the sports angle is interesting, I would however agree with another comment that this genocide did not start on Oct 7th and framing it as a response from Israel is unhelpful. I understand the American media strangles protests through accusations of ant*semi**** and te**o*ist sympathiser, but I think we need to stop caring about what they think and do our part in protecting innocents and children from ethnic cleansing.

Well, even people who are in sympathy with the Gazans are framing the story in Palestine in the wrong way. For the last 60 plus years land has routinely been taken away from the Palestinians, when their representative groups resist and fight back they are labelled terrorists. October 7th was the final result of years of injustice and frustration suffered by the Gazans

    • @JDshao

Exactly, this is what saddens me. I feel like this host doesn't hate Palestinians, which is often the reason for supporting Israel, however she's too scared to step out of what she's been told is the politically correct line of criticism. It's time people understand that the "both sides" arguments is violence, when one side is powerless and decimated by the other side slowly over 76 years.

Shallow and disappointing. You could have bothered to have on someone willing to point out that there is a difference between the legit criticism of the Israeli government (which hundreds of thousands of Israelis themselves do, very vocally) and the "From the River to the Sea" mentality of Israel being nothing more than a genocidal colonial projection of American Imperialism. But nah. That's too complicated I guess. Seriously, why bother if this is the effort you're going to put in?

Claiming the targets are "not the terrorists... but rather, the civilians" is just not accurate. I am disappointed that you seem to be doubling down on the one-sided narrative that when Hamas uses innocent civilians as human shields, if Israel defends itself, the innocent civilians are the targets, and not Hamas.
