    Thank you, this is so much more cost effective. I have a Cameo but was using more expensive plastic that didn’t always cut and that would be wasted material and money.

    Thanks for the settings, need to dust off my cameo. You should just put the cutting mat in a big ziplock bag and then scrape them off. Works like a charm and saves all the little pieces. The shapes would be good to save bcuz you can make your own embellishments by just using gesso to cover the plastic and then paint or use clear glue with irridescent glitter for double duty with the butterflies and honeycomb parts for flower centers. Just a thought!

    I just got a Silhouette Cameo 3 (a little late to the party) and your video was a great help. One thing I've learned from watching non-stop tutorials is to use painters tape to pick up those little 'bits' from the cutting mat. Just cover the whole thing in painters tape (the wider the tape the faster this goes), press it down firmly with the smoothing tool, then peel it off as one piece. It really picks up all the bits! Cheers!

    Lindsey, I make stencils from cereal boxes and then use the stencils to make hand cut stamps from a product called roll rubber roofing. It's basically like a sheet of easy to cut rubber .Basically a scrap from a roofing job on a house (The product comes in huge rolls like 12 x 24 feet etc ,,It acts as a moisture barrier for a roof .) .craft foam is nice for stamps too but soak up a lot of ink ..I mount these rubber stamps on craft foam and scraps of maple wood scraps from a local cabinet shop. How ever lately i use a notebook and an acrylic block or frame /plate to print with . wow My methods are so primitive lolol

    Cut off the tab " yes " cut off the folder holes " No ". Reason being you can put them into a folder just for Stencils and not having them being all over the place or putting them into a plastic cover and where they will get damaged.

    • @LindseyDecor
      @LindseyDecor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you make sure that it’s set to the right medium before you sent it to be cut? You may have to adjust the settings since the Cameo 4 is a little more sensitive than the machine I used for this tutorial.

  • @jaspermartin7444
    @jaspermartin7444 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was super excellent, thank you so much! Just got my brand new machine hooked up. :-) Now I could use a video on... showing how you put the stencil material in the machine, what if anything you do to the rollers, etc. I have never done this before!
    Thank you very much for the tips on cheap material -- I would also like to try using 20lb computer paper or card stock since like you, I'd much prefer a large variety. Just don't see myself using any of them more than a few times. Bonus, since they're going on a gelli plate, even the paper stencils can be cut up for colleges in the art journal.
    If you want more video ideas for newbs... Doubtful if I buy anything from the store, am planning on making my own in PaintShopPro, so not sure what needs to be done as far as softening the edges, etc, or how to convert a jpeg into whatever format the Silhouette will cut.
    Anyway, thanks again, your video helped tremendously. :-)

    • @LindseyDecor
      @LindseyDecor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stick everything on the mat to feed it through the machine...I’ve never had much luck just sending it through on its own.

    How did you do the feathers? I’m having issues with cutting my letters 😂 the inside is always missing

    • @LindseyDecor
      @LindseyDecor  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't do the feathers any differently than the other stencils. The trick to letters is that you have to create a rectangular shape that creates a sort of "bridge" between the middle piece and the edge of the letter and then weld the shapes together. This bridge is what holds the centers to the letters but you will be able to see that bridge in your final stencil design so just keep that in mind when you are setting it up.

    I want to buy a Silhouette Cameo for making stencils. I went through some tutorials on YT but this one is far the best of the tens I watched.
    Thank you very much for sharing.
    I have some questions (I hope you find time to answer them, the video is already nearly two years old).
    If you buy the stencil templates (files) do they come per e-mail or are they to download after paying the fee?
    What extension do the files have? What are you allowed to do with the files? Only print them once for own use?
    Or is it possible to print them out more times and even sell them (not the files itself, only the stencils?
    Is it possible to choose a part of the stencil file (for example one or two butterflies) and enlarge that to the measurements you want to have?
    Is it possible to create your own stencils? What kind of program is needed for that?
    If you covered all these questions in one of your other videos, please send a link to them. I'm first time at your channel today.
    Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

    • @LindseyDecor
      @LindseyDecor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The files should automatically download into the program unless your settings are set differently.
      The file extensions are unique to Silhouette so only can be used in that program. But you can use them as many times as you want once you’ve purchased. You do need to purchase a license if you plan on using them for selling items which can be done in the Silhouette shop.
      You can “ungroup” file shapes and manipulate the pieces as needed. Check out the Silhouette School Blog where there is lots of info for things like this.
      You could probably use the Silhouette program to create your own stencil templates if they are simple but you can also use something like Adobe Illustrator to make more complicated SVG files.
      Hope this helps!

      Freezer paper works great for t-shirts. Cut wax side down
