    I really enjoyed the detailed content. However I would have liked to see more of the speaker itself. For example a walk around and a shot that gives you more of a sense of scale in the room.

    Wow Matt that was really good, the thorough all considerations format was really my speed, I liked the way you covered the driver technologies before getting into the phase reversed crosstalk things, and then crossover and binding posts were a really great desert, plus all the other considerations well thought of and mentioned. I thought the whole format was brilliant and I wish more reviews of all products followed this sort of cogent relevant breakdown. It was soo good, I feel like it might be worth leading with the speaker info right out the gate. These speakers look like they’re instant classics! I’m happy for you, and look forward to hearing tidbits and insights squeaking out in episodes to come. It feels good knowing that my favorite reviewers have some crazy shit like this at home, and in their cognitive repertoire. I think it’d be cool to see some comparisons with the ki-three.

    I had the Polk SDA CRS + for 30 years and loved them but when home theater started I felt they didn't quite work as fronts. I eventually sold them 2 years ago and never thought Polk would bring them back. I use the Polk LSIM 707s and 706C now and find that if you spend a lot of time with speaker placement you can get a sound similar to what the old SDA sounded like with that huge soundstage. I always set up my SDA facing straight into room with no toe in.Not so with the 707s.

    Hello there. Thank you for your videos. I have an interesting experience with my home theater system. I was running some frequency tests on my system to see how high I can still hear and I was impressed that I can hear above 19000 hrz. But there was something weird, I couldn't hear the frequencies between 10,000-15,000hrz. Do you think that my system is not playing those frequencies? It's not my hearing for sure as I can above the 15000 hrz and bellow the 10,000hrz. Hope you have an answer for my question

    • @biteme263
      @biteme263 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is most likely a hole or a null in your frequency response. You should be able to test it with an spl meter. MIght be your room, might be the speakers. I see it sometimes too in certain frequencies. What I also see sometimes is the level slowly modulate and go up and down in volume slowly. I am going to assume it is the room loading up or something? I don't know enough about accoustics for that to be more than a wild guess though lol. If you are really concerned about your hearing have your ears checked by a place that does it. I think you can find places that do it for free sometimes. Or sometimes your insurance will cover it once a year or every couple of years. My hearing tests show I have a bit of dead spot in the mid range. Probably from years of factory work and no hearing protection. Oddly enough though I don't like speakers that have a lot of midrange lol. And back when I used an EQ those were always the frequencies I would cut. The brain is weird isn't it.

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. If you bought identical speakers and they were narrow enough to be placed close enough to the other drivers, you could conceivably wire up your own version of this crossover. But it would be a lot of work and the effect might not be very effective. It’s hard to get right.

  • @TopperDude

  • @SwirlingDragonMist
    @SwirlingDragonMist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, I was under the impression that if you biwired between bass and treble to separate amps, that you could run time delay calibration with a microphone with the primary amp, and that it would delay the first amp to match up with the second slower amp. Maybe it’s my misperception, but isn’t bi amping bass just like using a subwoofer? How is a subwoofer different than any other secondary amplifier being time controlled by the master amplifier?

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SwirlingDragonMist the preamp output and the built in amplifier of a receiver are slaved to each other. You couldn’t time align. The LFE output used for subs is different.

    • @SwirlingDragonMist
      @SwirlingDragonMist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Poes I know there’s some variation between brands in their bass management options. But assuming we had the bass+LFE ouput option, could we bass manage Bass+LFE into the Sub-out, and split that to the second amp’s left/right inputs, then time align with the auto calibration? With the binding posts on the speaker still bridged.

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      SwirlingDragonMist I think I may have confused you in my description in the video. You need to use the bass section of the tower for the left and right bass because they need to cross at the right level, 2-300hz. You can’t feed it with a mono LFE feed. It needs the L and R feeds respectively.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it's L-R and R-L, the ground reference comes from the amplifier so you can't use an amp with differential outputs or you lose 6dB of the SDA effect.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      these speakers don't require toe-in and in fact will reduce the SDA effect if you do so like we stated in the video.

    • @jojosthlm
      @jojosthlm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Audioholics Manually adjusting toe in can adjust the sound impression al lot. With these speakers you kind of stuck with what you got and can´t do anything. Thats not an advantage.

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      jojosthlm you really need to listen to these setup before judging them. Toe in helps get the best measured response to your ears. Polk already did this for you while taking away a different complication this design creates. The relative distance of the SDA drivers and main drivers to each ear must be maintained. Their distance was precisely set to match the average distance between our ears. Changing the toe changes the relative distance and reduces the amount of crosstalk cancelation.

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joakim # crosstalk is far from a non-problem. Researchers have been looking at this problems for decades because it makes such a big difference. You really need to hear this speaker to understand what it’s improving. I don’t think this speakers sound is for everyone, but for people into staging and imaging, it’s a speaker you must hear.

      These speakers are finicky you setup correctly. They also have a soundstage that is so unique that if you think the norm is right, you will think this is wrong. But they really sound great and have a soundstage like nothing you have ever heard before.
      But...set them up wrong and they can be pretty underwhelming. You really need to take care in setup. I’ve noted other reviews and even some shops have them setup wrong.

    • @PoesAcoustics
      @PoesAcoustics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have a Spritzer was not a review as I said over and over again.
      I am working on the review video as well as the sound demo. The primary holdup there is that this speaker works its magic through crosstalk cancelation. At the moment my recordings of log sweeps shows me that my binaural recording is not matching a real human head for crosstalk. That means you won’t hear what I hear until I get that fixed. The primary problem is that my head isn’t a head and I need to get a better proxy. I’m working on it.
      As I’ve stated many times before, in room recordings of speakers is a terrible means to demo a speaker. Most people do it wrong and what you hear isn’t a good approximation. I’m going to do my best to fix that so my demo is at least passable.
