- This video shows you two methods of how to thin out long hair, whether it's straight or curly. I'm a licensed hairstylist with 6 years of salon experience. You should be able to find the required tools at most beauty supply stores.

Faith Louise Siviter omg yes, i cut my hair shoulder length and when I take it out of a bun or ponytail, my hair stays in the position and idk how to explain it but it curves its weird
when my hair was long i had no problem with that even though my hair is really thick, i now know that long hair is easier lol

I always hated having long hair so i cut it to my shoulders. I love the cut but my hair is too thick and wont lay down when i blow dry/straighten it; Its super poofy and looks like it belongs back in the 80's

Jonne Viitanen People love THICK hair! I have thick hair myself- and I understand your frustration. Thinning should help - but sometimes it counteracts and the smaller pieces of hair that were thinned out - end up getting more frizzy and thick. Your stylist needs to literally just chop into the ends and slice a minimal amount.

My hair is so voluminous that it's difficult to control. However, when I asked a hairdresser to thin it out for me, she said this was impossible unless I was willing to get layers. Thank you for this instruction! :)

By far the beat technique to thin out hair. Far better than just thinning shears. It makes a huge difference!

Thanks for posting this video! I have a beautiful hand sewn hairpiece that I paid $800 for several ago because I'm losing my hair due to a neurological medical condition. It's looks great but feels so heavy & unnatural on top & the sides because my hair is naturally thin. I cut my hair from another TH-cam video I saw & it turned out great & looked for a video about thinning hair & found yours. Put my hair in a ponytail, put my hairpiece on & followed your video & it turned out great! I did trim all around it (accept the front) though because it's a hairpiece, but started a few inches below the crown & stopped a few inches from the bottom. Now my hairpiece not only looks natural, it also feels natural! Thank you, stay safe & God bless!!! Happy New Year! 🥰

Thank goodness! Someone with my texture who knows how to thin, not layer. I have a lot of thin, slightly wavy hair. Finding a stylist who does not texturize is impossible. I just want less hair, but the long smooth look.

My hair is so just thick and the just "blunt" yet it never tangles and hardly frizzes but breaks like egg shells. This has helped me so much but since I do not trust even myself with these Im leaving it to a professional for the 95% left of my head that I didn't thin XD

I have really thick hair - I hate it, it's always frizzy, poofy, and no matter how much things I try to use, no luck for it being like yours. Yours looks really healthy, soft and shiny! How can I make mine like that? Mine is alway dry, and it's not soft. I have to straighten my hair. it's like wavy, and I can't tame it when I don't straighten it. It's just a big poofy mess! I have a bob hairstyle with long layers, and the length is to my chin if that is of any help. But it's difficult having this hairstyle, when your hair is dry, and not silky at all lol. Do you have any recommendations on what I can do? I think I may have to thin out on the back, but would like to wait incase it's just a problem with my hair being frizzy and not silky or healthy or something.

might be a little late, but I feel your pain Im a red head with thick and frizzy hair. Fortunately I can easily tame it but I do have some tips for you :) Hopefully you can still use these.
1. When you shower wash your hair in hot water then when you get ready to rinse wash it out in COLD water, it will help make it shinier and less frizzy!
2. do NOT blow dry your hair! The heat makes it poofy and harder to control, wrap it up then after a couple of minutes brush it out with a comb.
3. when washing your hair try to shampoo like normal and when conditioning it don't scrub it into your roots. This can also help for less greasy hair
Also having shorter hair is going to be a lot more work as well, try and keep your hair collar bone to armpit length for a little bit more easier control
hair products I recommend are Tresemme for shampoo and conditioner and and as for hair spray and de-tangle spray I like to use Bed Head
your goal should be to have Healthy hair, not to change the texture of it. if you do research on your specific hair-type and how to take care of it, it’ll end up looking good. your ultimate hair goal should be to make your hair thrive

Thank you so much for uploading this! A hair stylist did not do a good job on my hair and now I have decided to fix it on my own. I am scared but better this than paying more money and going home dissatisfied! I just purchased a Jatai Feather razor and am hoping to get good results. Not sure if you have time for a question but... The part I dislike is that she left long strands in the back that look like a mullet. This is probably because the hair at the nape of my neck grows in a "V" shape... But still, it looks horrible! Any idea how I can use the razor for the bottom back part of my hair? Thanks a million! I’ve had a thick swoopy fringe all my life and I never understood why hairspray didn’t keep it up until now duh. Thinned it out using this method and already it’s sitting comfortable to the side of my face and it isn’t weighing down my false lashes anymore. Good shit thanks a lot for this tutorial.

I naturally have thin hair. I used to obsess that I had thick, fat hair but it thinned out as I grew older. It's probably because I have short eyelashes, so it means I have less body hair, then thinner hair : ) !
