i can do the same thing and i know how to explain how to move properly
imagine a ball in the centre of your body that can roll in place in any direction and can go at any speed you want
then incorporate your movement with the ball
if you then imagine a yoyo in the centre of your body and incorporate the movements to the yoyo you can do cool rewind effects
after that try imagining a fish on a fishing reel pulling away from you and you then pulling it back in towards you you move like water
