Finish and gift it. So much work in it and the pattern is lovely. Astra yarn is still available to purchase. The value of the project is so much more than the gained yarn if you were to frog.
Love your podcasts. I have used the Paton Classic Wool. I knit socks in the worsted weight. It does feel ruff, softened up a little after washed but not much. Even though it never got soft, it doesn't bother me when I wear my socks, actually feel nice and warm. I also made fingerless mitts out of the yarn and they were fine also, but not sure about a sweater. You may want to wear a light top under it.
Just found you and started watching today. Do not frog the cardigan. Its absolutely gorgeous and you have done so much work on it! Just finish it and gift it. I am really enjoying the podcast. Nice to have another Canadian podcast to watch.
I love The Bakery Bears. They are in the UK and have grown to be a very professional type podcast and not only do the husband and wife both knit and share their knitting they do other segments on history sharing their beautiful country with walks and history lessons. It is wonderful.
The curtains with the knitting fabric would be a good idea, as it would distract you from the yarn. I know that I get distracted from my current active projects when I see yarn in my stash. If you dont find this to be the case for yourself, why not making pillows or recovering the chair you sit in most to knit
So nice to meet you. Just found your podcast through the Grocery Girls whom i have been following for years! I grew up in Westville but had to move to find a Music teaching job. I taught in NL and PEI and 9 years in ON. Now in Moncton since 1999. My name is Jean. My Mom was Helen and was a Home Ec teacher.
great sweater!!! love the shawl too... i've been knitting some mittens from a pattern that was my grandma's (a 1940 ish pattern) and am having so much fun... wish she was still alive to share my love of knitting with her....i donate them to a group that's thru my daughters church... if you have bits and pieces leftover make some mittens.. there is always a need to donate to homeless shelters
Thanks Ruthe! I miss my grandma so much … she taught me to knit … I still have a sweater that she made me when I was 16 … I wear it often & it brings me warm memories of her ❤️
Yikes! Don't frog it! It's gorgeous! Just found you. You are clearly a process knitter. I am too. I take my knits almost to the end. Then they sit around until I block them and/or weave in the ends. (Christina from Etobicoke).
Re Silver Fur Cardigan-DON’T frog it! 1)That was a lot of work! 2) The yarn itself isn’t so precious/expensive that you should undo the work and spend time frogging. I suggest you either finish putting the pieces together and gift it/sell it. Or give the pieces to another knitter whom it would fit. It sure is a beautiful item! (Oh, and BTW if you frogged the pieces, you’d have to put it into hands and steam it over a kettle to get the kinks out.)
My other fave podcasts are Black Sheep Knitter, Grocery Girls-who directed me to come find you!-Another Knitting Pod and just started watching Andrea Mowry's podcast I'll Knit If I Want To.
Check out Finnish Knitting Stories … I love it and I’m enjoying you too! A lot of people are trying to use up stash and get rid of WIPs….I think some of us overbought pre pandemic and perhaps during it too. This has inspired me to finish two wips and 1 project from leftovers and have something on the needles from stash. However…I did buy yarn all project oriented for my granddaughter…can’t help it! She is two and I love knitting for her.
Fabulous podcast- thoroughly enjoyed your projects- inspiring! So grateful to have found you- your generous spirit and soul just shines through every part - looking forward to following along your journey - truly beautiful show.
I vote for finishing and gifting the Silver Fox! Also wanted to say, I have also not knit the Ranunculus,. It just doesnt grab my interest like it has others'.
Luv your podcast.. from NS myself (Cape Breton) love being from the maritimes. The sweater you finished is beautiful and great fit. stash is what ever you want it to be … some find more they have they- love it and want more on hand and some only a few….. you mention how knitting can be someone’s haven and source of comfort… it is true… my husband passed at a young age of 41… 9 years ago.. and there were a few years that my knitting wasn’t comfort to me more agitating with each stitch… but I learned to use my knitting as my release from the world and has taken me through long years.. each day it’s a blessing in my hands….
Sometimes when a sweater won't fit me i'll make long triangles to sew at the side seams, giving it an a line shape to fit my hips. As for stash, this year i declared my year of stashdown, no buying unless it is to be used with stash yarns. For years i'd shop on my days off, and yarn shopping was my fav=tons of yarn. I organized my stash, and as a result i gifted a lot of yarns i no longer wish to use to a coworker on a tight budget, she was happy and i got more space.
I have a huge stash of yarn, mostly what I would classify as "vacation" yarns, which are usually single skeins of yarn picked up from a local store or dyer while on vacation. However, I am also a book hoarder, especially of knitting and crochet books, and I have high hopes of eventually matching all my stash yarn to projects from my stash books! [Wishful thinking, I know!]
Only frog the cardigan if you want to. It’s beautiful! I’m sure it will find a home with a very knitworthy person. I have yet made the Ranunculas as well 😅 one day
i've enjoyed your first two videos. about the red paton's yarn that you're using - i started my sock knitting with that yarn, and it was great for warm boot or house socks. i don't like speaking negatively about a yarn that served me well. frankly though, i wouldn’t use it for a sweater unless i had a turtleneck under it. it blooms and gets pretty fuzzy - not pilly, but fuzzy. for that reason, too, i think it might end up looking like you used eyelash yarn - insulation help for socks, but kind of messy-looking for a sweater. i should add that i wash my socks in the washer. let us know what you decide!
Love the podcast 😊 My other fav podcasts right now are Wool Needles Hands, Needles at the ready, The Black Sheep Knitter, and La Violette Yarn Shop from Bouctouche NB 😄
so happy i found your podcast! i knit beautiful pullover sweaters for my 4 grand daughters, but i am a cardigan wearer, that's what i knit for myself and your gray cardigan is beautiful, please don't frog it, so much work went into it, i hope you decide to finish it! i have not knit a Ranuculus sweater either, i hope you enjoy it, it looks like a fun pattern to knit! love the almost finished socks and mitts as well, looking forward to your FO's next time, thanks for a lovely podcast! ♥
Finished the gray cardigan! Way too much work to frog it all and it will be a lovely gift if you can’t wear it. I, too, have NOT knit a Ranuculous or a Love Note, both of which are super popular patterns! A Love Note might have to get on my needles 😊
Finish th cardigan. I have a Hugh stash which I am knitting from this year since I got laid off in November and have not found another job yet. I am so glad I have a stash.
Thanks for the feedback! You are the first to mention this but it’s great info! I’m still learning so I’m sure it’ll get better & better as time goes on!
I have enjoyed your first two podcasts from a neighbouring county - Antigonish. As for a stash, I certainly have a lovely one and recently reorganized and sorted it so I could have a better view of what I have when I go stash diving. Pretty much all that I have will be used provided I don't purchase too much more and live long enough. Part of what I have was inherited from women in my family who also knit but these are sweater quantities! As for that sweater in pieces - could you finish it and gift it to someone or donate for a raffle etc.?
I enjoy your podcast! I’m typically a lurker but thought I’d share my thoughts on stash. I wish I didn’t have any other than a few skeins of sock yarn. I’ve been knitted for over 20 years and in late 2021 I decided to “Marie Kongo” my stash. In my head, I had a lot of single skeins and only one or two sweater quantities. The reality was I had 10 sweater quantities plus tons of single skeins. This was after I gifted a huge bag of yarn to my mom. In 2022, I had a successful no buy year for yarn. I knit 6 sweaters, 16 pairs of socks and other random accessories. Because I frogged several hand knit sweaters that I wasn’t wearing, my stash is still impossible, but this year there aren’t any skeins I want to destash. So I reorganized my revelry queue - every pattern in my queue has a yarn from my stash assigned to it. For some yarns there’s more than one pattern in the queue so I have options. My queue is mostly garments. I always have socks on the go but I usually knit vanilla socks so I don’t put them in the queue. Maybe in 2024 I’ll be comfortable buying yarn again, but it will be for specific garment when I’m ready to knit it. My taste in yarn and garments has changed vastly over the years and my giant stash reflects it. I look forward to your future episodes. PS if you don’t think you’ll wear the cardigan, I say frog it even though it’s almost finished. Take care
I’m so happy to have found your podcast. I really enjoyed this episode and will now watch episode 1. And you’re not the only one who hasn’t knit a Ranunculus! I haven’t either! Not sure why. So many shiny new objects that keep detailing me. But I will knit one this year. Look forward to your next episode. Thanks.
Hi Anne, Your Esme sweater looks Gorgeous on you. My thoughts on your Silver Fir Cardi is go for the finish, it's Beautiful, stitch detail, everything about it, heck you're almost done, you can do it. Your idea for curtains sounds great with that snazzy fabric. I also had to turn up my volume as I notice someone else mention. I look forward to future episodes, really enjoying your podcasts. Not sure if this happens to others (not the first time it's happened to me), I subscribed while watching your first episode, then when I came to watch this second one, I had to subsribe again. Not sure what is up with that. You might enjoy watching The Meaninful Stitch with Amy Palko in case you haven't already. I've been trying to only use my stash this past while (1 year or more), it has been working out well so far, other than I might want to knit a sweater and don't have a sweater's quantity, or if I do maybe not the color I would prefer but will use it anyway. I recently knit The Safe at Home blanket by Margaret Holzmann, which used up quit a bit, but still have so much. Mostly my yarn coming from thrifting or garage sales, so basically budget friendly, and not always the best quality or quantity for beloved projects. I just love to knit and will make do with what I have for now. Take care. :)
Your finished sweater is beautiful. I also found that fingerless Mitts tend to stretch out after wearing, so I always knit a regular bind off. I was curious as to why you are called the 3am podcast.
Finish and gift it. So much work in it and the pattern is lovely. Astra yarn is still available to purchase. The value of the project is so much more than the gained yarn if you were to frog.
In the end I did finish it up! 🧶

I think so too!
Beautiful cardigan. I would finish it and gift it. Someone will love this.

It's so beautiful it's begging to be finished. Just think of the joy it will bring someone you gift it to
It’s such a lovely pattern! I’ll finish it!
Tension rods and then drape that lovely fabric in front of your shelves! Audition it! Maybe floor pillows?
Great idea!!
Yes, please finish the cardigan! I've got a lot of stash!! Scared to know the overall value, but I do love it!! I'm enjoying your podcast.
Yay! Thank you!
I LOVE that gray sweater. FINISH is my vote.

I love the sweater you are wearing.🤩
Thanks Sylvie! I’ll let everyone know when the pattern is released! It’s the Esme Sweater
So love your podcasts..The sound was good here..love your projects also..
Thanks Michelle! Gad you enjoyed the episode!
Oops. Forgot to mention that the volume was very low and I had to turn it up to 100 on my tv in order to hear you. Have others mentioned that? Thanks

Ranunculus is a great pattern, even if you don't follow it exactly as written, it still produces a beautiful sweater. Bags for the fabric.
I’m looking foto knitting the Ranunculus! I’ve been looking at all the beautiful versions on Ravelry! Thanks for the idea for the fabric Meri! ❤
