  • This is a lovely bedtime poem written by an Inuit throat singer, Celina Kalluk. She describes the gifts that many the animals of the Arctic bring to the newborn baby, Kulu.
In addition to writing this children's book, Celina Kalluk is a throat singer. Many people don't know what a throat singing is. Singers create deep and high sounds in a way that you might think sounds a bit like animals talking or the wind blowing. Some singers sing with another person and they take turns making these sounds in a way that might seem like a musical game.
To hear Celina Kulluk's throat singing, go here: • Siqiniq - Celina Kalluk
Be sure to listen to the middle of the song to hear the unusual way she uses her larynx, jaw, and mouth in her song.
Alexandria Neonakis is the illustrator of this book. She is from Nova Scotia (in Canada), but she lives in Santa Monica, California these days.
