When COVID hit the City brought in dump trucks and dumped massive mounds of mulch over all the city skateparks bc yk back then they thought it was safer to lock everyone indoors breathing each other's air than be outside at skateparks with natural wind circulation... swung by a couple days later and the skaters had piled the masses of mulch into towering heaps, threw ramps on top of them and stuck rails into them, and swept the rough concrete between the mounds to create (temporary) obstacles to skate that were better than anything there was before... RVA is a hella gritty urban environment, these skaters are friggin undeterred

Clicked on this video because I spent about 3 years living in Norfolk (5 points area) back in 2012. Richmond kind of reminds me of my hometown but larger. Lots of diy spots around here.
Northside skatepark was brand new at the time, and I mainly just went there. Sometimes I would go to this little pocket park over in Hampton to skate the coolest mini ramp around. Good times

This is litteraly what those of us skating in the 80s and earlier did before guys like myself started building the "skate Church" in SW Portland and later Burnside... We skated rae urban/suburban terrain any way we could... but now skating has gotten so mainstream and so _hipster infected_ that this is "art" and has to be pontificate over by pseudo-intelectual liberal types. As skating has grown in popularity yhe number of posers trying to associate gemstones with it have grown exponentially. Skating is no longer counter to mainstream culture to the kids all obsessed with dopamine hits from posting ever lame idea on social media.
