I always thought that traffic in Taiwan was terrible - and I even got hit by a car last October in Taichung, but that was entirely my mistake and I got away with just a broken toe.
But then I went to HCMC this March, and that made me realise that traffic in Taiwan is not all that bad... seriously, HCMC is utter madness.
I once also scolded an old man who had filtered into traffic on his scooter from the sidewalk, without looking and straight in front of me.
on topic: actually grabbing that lady was a bad mistake on behalf of that foreigner - never get physical in altercations like that.

    • @davidt1831

Agreed. In my experience, traffic in both Vietnam and Cambodia are more horrible than Taiwan. But I think it's worth pointing out that both Vietnam and Cambodia are lower middle-income developing country while Taiwan is a developed country. And the traffic in Taiwan is just not befitting a developed country.

I've lived in Taiwan for 15 years, and I agree that traffic is the worst. It's not uncommon for Taiwanese drivers to run red lights when there are people on the crosswalk.

The title sums it up. He's a foreigner. Asia doesn't have many "foreign" faces, and people of a different colour aren't considered citizens. They're just visitors in the minds of the locals, regardless of how long they've lived there or how well they speak the language. His actions would most likely be seen as excessive or inappropriate as a foreigner. Therefore, he was out of place to cause a scene.

The traffic is certainly the worst thing in Taiwan. The amount of close calls I've had do piss me off, it's like the other driver doesn't care if you smash into the side of their car as they turn left while you're going forward. Another thing are the people driving in a city with their high beams on and blinding you! Driving my scooter is a big part of my channel and I do love riding around Taiwan, but there are so many terrible drivers like the ones that pull over to the side of someone on a scooter forcing them to brake, just to get ahead, that it seems they want to cause accidents, and of course there are many terrible scooter riders too like the one in the video. I've luckily not had any major accidents and I hope it stays that way!

Played the video in slow mo and I honestly don't see what the problem is??? The local kept a fair distance from the foreigner. No need to yell and get aggressive (EXTREMELY aggressive you gotta know thats just how it is in taiwan or asia in general same in china Vietnam Thailand if you drive in taiwan you know thats how it is and you kind of accept it or dont drive public transportation in asia is so convenient no need to get involved in that mess) than to physically put your hands on somebody. Just made it to the part where he yells at her and before hearing the rest I would like to simply say what i feel happened.
The guy was just riding and then the "crazy person" drives in a way that many countrys would make you lose your license. Maybe he got scared for a second and had to evade and this almost made him crash and lose his life... so he "lost his shit". I guess the argument that unfolded is the casual "well, here it's normal" people that defend this and say that you have to get use to it.... and the other side (that i would be on) that there is no excuse to cut someone off and almost making them crash and lose their life. You can say what you want... but i dont feel sorry for the person having to face the rage of someone that they almost killed. In the end i would say that i guess that some people musst almost lose their life or a close one to understand that there is no excuse for risking someone elses life "because you just feel like it".
edit: yea, its exactly what I thought it would be... and in the comments you got people defending her "i dont care if i someone dies" with "well, what he did was assault.... he is the dangerous one". Humans are stupid and some people need to have a close one die to this before they get basic common sense.

The way this foreigner shouted derogatory slurs, bullying and threatening this woman is not only wrong but has racist and condescending undertone, not to mention these are criminally chargeable behaviors. So to say that this foreigner is kind of right, Prozzie, you're very wrong. Let's get that straight first. While in every sense of safe traffic concern, the female motor cyclist is beyond reckless, likely to cause harm to others, and absolutely at fault. But this can be dealt with by non-violent manners, verbally and physically. You can be as angry as you want without calling her names and being physical. She shall not be threatened, shoved, grabbed. Taiwanese are nice, calm and we do appreciate foreigners visiting our country and enjoy friendly exchanges. However, we don’t need to be lectured or discriminated against in our own country, by a foreigner. So the fact you're addressing the issue this way, I wonder you have certain mindset that you’re not aware of. By all means, dangerous driving behaviors are not acceptable and they're pervasive in Taiwan--something needs to be improved upon for sure. However, when we see bad behaviors, we need to call them out as well. There, foreigner.

I didn't say the foreigner was right for yelling at her or pushing her. But his point is right, she was driving like a maniac.
I wasn't "lecturing" or "discriminating against you", unless of course, you drive like that lady does. Then yea I'm gonna tell you like it is. It's not right to drive that way and put others lives at risk.
Don't hit or threaten people. Even if it's funny.
      Love, a foreigner.

@@Prozzie You did. @4:06, you said her's "kind of right...” And that’s not okay. As a TH-camr, you have to be more mindful of your wordings. He may have the right position to condemn the female motor cyclist, but he then demonstrated something equally problematic if not more. Plus, potentially criminal. As a TH-camr, you have responsibilities-Violence is never the answer, doesn’t matter if you’re in the right position, that includes verbal violence too-swearing, calling names, threatening is never tolerated. You should have called these things out FIRMLY as well. I hope you’re able to reflect on these things, understand how lucky you are in your position, that way, you are truly showing respect to your host country.

And why do you keep pointing out that I’m a foreigner? It’s coming off really weird. Like I’m not from here so I can’t say these things? Are you her granddaughter or something? If you are then steal her keys because she’s going to kill someone. And I’m not “lucky”. It takes works to build a channel like any other business.

Very interesting arguments, let's reverse this same scenario and have it happened in any Western country say America for example, a tough looking Asian man riding a scooter and all of a sudden gets dangerously cut by a White woman on another scooter then the Asian man starts to shout derogatory slurs, bullying and threatening the White woman with racist and condescending undertone but in Chinese language exactly as you described, first the White woman would have no friggin idea what he is saying in his own language, (yes it just so happen that English is an international language so you would think that the Asian woman would understand those racist English slurs he was spewing or maybe she also had no idea what he was saying but only know he was pissed) The point I'm trying to say here is and the difference if the same scenario happened in Western country reversed, nobody would be viewed as a "foreigner" they will both be dealt with in the same manner as if they're both American citizens.
