I’m planning on switching my Tycoon Bongo heads to Remo synthetic heads. I doubt I need to soften anything, do I? I’m switching to synthetics for personal reasons. Great video if you want rawhide heads.
I bought some crappy bongos. They sound bad do you think changing the skin might improve their sound? The build quality isn’t bad it’s just they sound boxy. Thanks
this might be too late but I did exactly that experiment with Cp (not the original ones but the cheapest line from LP) congas I had. I put manito skins on them and it improved the sound tremendously. I would assume the same might be for bongos. It won't make it sound like a top of the line but it does improve the sound a lot.
How do I find bongo heads.... I'm looking for the plastic one for the high bongo people say it's x ray sheets. Anyway how do I search for that type of head
Hi. I want to replace my bongo heads. I’m looking for that high pitch sound that you hear in salsa music or Boleros. Do you have a particular head I can use and purchase Thank you
I'm noticing online manufacturer head dimension differences of +/- 0.25 in. for bongo heads. Where to measure on the playing surface however can vary by 1/8th inches depending on where along the playing surface one begins to measure. Exact edge? Center edge? Just the flat before the edge begins? As 1/8 + 1/8 when going from edge to edge makes 1/4" variance it gets confusing when making a decision on which skin to get. My manufacturer makes a macho 6.5" and a 6.75" head. Taking the head off and measuring the apicies of shell edges across the shell diameter (heads off) seems to be most accurate. Insight?
Thanks Bruh. Big help.
Do you have to soak synthetic heads?
@@briannaranjo2545 I am wondering the same!!!
Thanks for your clear explanations, appreciated.
Thanks for the advice, I am in the process of replacing the heads on both my congas and bongos 👍😎
Just got the meinl hembra head 7 1/2" . Muchas gracias for the proper way of putting on the head. Paz y salud

Correct - no soaking, unless you want to take a bath with the new heads and use them as floating bowls while you have dinner.

Oh almost forgot. What should I use to clean and condition the head ? Leather conditioner/cleaner with lanolin
Lotion with lanolin is best. No chemicals.
