If ever similar, extreme-colder-than-normal weather threatens, then before it hits, you can gently lift upwards and tie up the uppermost fronds (I think of it like Trussing "like a turkey" or old style feather duster) so they protect the centre new growth spike, and place something like a large trash bag or. thin tarpaulin over the top. The air gap and waterproofness of the bag/tarp that will keep the damp cold from the near freezing rain, getting right down the new central growth spike.
Yes, It's doing well that's a great idea about tying it up and putting a bag over the top. We are due for another deep freeze here in the next few weeks
I had two too stroke Saabs, 61 and A 63, and the first one used chew up spark plugs regularly. The second one had a high energy ignition system installed and they lasted much longer. I had put a tach in them, and they could rev up to 5 G,s with no problem.
