Thanks! I will be making a whole series of videos on It. Still debating whether to get an off the shelf die set and just making the punch, die, stripper and chute or make it all.
SpeedyMetals has good prices on steel but I'm not sure what to get for the dies. 1018 would probably be too soft, so I'm thinking A36 or O1/W1, but what would be recommended. I can probably harden the pieces after milling. I want to punch blanks from 1/8" 360 brass or thinner
Thanks, I will check them out! I usually use A2 since it's easy to get. I've never punched brass before, not sure what it's like. Somewhere between steel and aluminum, I would guess.
My guess would be Cost. How much would a suitable Plasma Table, Waterjet. Laser Be against the setup that Craig is building up, also speed in this instance. He recently punched a good size hole in 200 pieces in under 30 minutes, Double that for 2 operations and you get change out of an hour. Give us a guess how long any of your suggested machines would take ? don't stand a chance against that.
Thanks! It depends on how many parts you expect to make. Stamping/punching is cheaper in high quantities. Stamping requires less deburing as it has a perfect edge on one side and a slight bur on the other. Less deburing time than a laser. The main reason I am doing it is because it is cleaner and more on demand. I think it might be easier to make a video on the topic.
I hope to get back into making them next year. We need a bigger press to punch out the sizes we need. Yeah, we will be hardening them. Not sure what tool steel yet.
I always enjoy hanging out! Thanks for bringing us along with you.
Hey Greg, thanks for hanging out! Maybe I should try a live stream some time. Lol.
Awesome..I need a Blanking Punch die set, are you able to be Hired to build one?
I really like your mini project because they are so unique. Keep it up and only the very best for you and your family for 2020 :)
Hey, thanks, same, Happy New Year!
Kennametal harvi 1 is an amazing tool for steel too. The vibration dampening/reduction is pretty amazing.
Yeah, I've heard a lot about Kennametal. Not sure where to buy them. I usually order online.
@@craigsmachineshop2040 mscdirect sells kennametal tools.
Thanks, I'll check it out.
Enjoyed your video, would like to see some of your design of a blanking die. As to stack hight and travel hight too. Thanks for sharing your videos 😊

Hello sir.. How to mill 10x18mm slot punch??
Yes, can you share your F&S? Also curious about what coolant you're using in your fog buster. Thanks.
Sorry, my video overlay in Vegas Movie Studio stopped working. I have added the feeds and speeds to the video description. Kool Mist 77
Nice work, please what is the name of the machine you used to shape the die?
A CNC machine - I have a Tormach 770

excellent !
Thanks!
Useful sir
It was gud sir....
Can u please share me about the machine what you have used for making this die set🤔🤔🤔
Thanks! Its the Tormach 770.
Good day vrk
Thanks
What material will be good for cutting 0.5 mm 316 steel sheet for this cutting die block?
Stainless Steel? You are going to need some kind of tool steel that has been hardened would be my guess.
@@craigsmachineshop2040 thanks
Awesome video. So what's the advantage of making a blanking die over just using a plasma/waterjet /laser etc? It almost seems out of date these days.

And also production of scale, you can make a die that makes a 100 of those at a time, way cheaper and faster than any plasma/water jet

@@malcolmtill Yeah, I priced lasers, they started at $60,000 for a small one. Around $25,000 if you take the risk of buying straight from China.
usually we harden our punches and dies. then wirecut or edm. what crs are you using?

Can you make me 2 dies?
It will be 1/0 and 4 Guage copper battery lug press?
Sorry, We only make them for in-house use.
@@craigsmachineshop2040 you don't make them to sell?
@@billyburke9247 No, we just make tooling for our own products.
Looks like you got a good recipe for cold rolled steel. Can you share the feeds and speeds you were using?

@@craigsmachineshop2040 thanks Craig much appreciated.
Are you operating manually??
No, its air over hydraulic - from Harbor Freight
What were your speeds and feeds?
Please !
@@malcolmtill excellent point. What were your speeds and feeds please.

Was this 1018?
