I really like this video.... It shows a nice slow description of the process, but I think he should have gone from the cutting and followed the process down and over to the left--then as it winded up to the right in the final assembly... But, it's the best video I've seen so far... reminds me of the olden days... back then you never licked your envelopes, because you knew how FLIES got in the gum bins... Oh, you weenies.... Just don't distract the window guy, and he'll be fine... :)
@ywmpg I think my favorite story from my days as a manufacturer were that rats got into the drums of the glue, which was why you should never lick the envelopes.
My husband does this kind of work and hes always trying to explain things to me and I could never picture it. Now I wont be left in the dark when he explains how he nearly lost his fingers again! Im kidding but apparently workers in this field get cut A LOT
My dad is 85. He used to make envelopes when he was in his early twenties. I've seen the equipment operate when I was very young. THAT EQUIPMENT LOOKS LIKE IT CAME OVER ON THE MAYFLOWER, ... so old. I don't see how OSHA lets you run it now days. Is the plant in Mexico or something?He told me when they would come into the plant in the morning the glue vats hand no cover. They would have to fish the dead rats out where they had been eating the glue and drowned in it. I don't lick envelopes. :oPI've ran a lot of windmills, Kluges, including hand versions of Kluges. Good for the arms! LOL Mashed a numbering machine once too. Nearly broke my hand on the windmill, sticking my hand near the delivery tray when the arm came down.
Don't have to been... Glue would dry up if there was a hole in the drum big enough for a rat to fall in.. so that would not fly.. Second there is a acid to in the glue or gum as its called front and back gum... to kill germs... third.. been doing this since 1986... never seen mice.rats or even flys in the glue(gum)... so with that. I think not... Less someone placed it in there... sounds like adjuster talk.. where was this company located. I have worked every where up and down the east cost and never seen a rat in a gum drum... wroked for old colony. darling, JBM, Tension, cenveo, kenmore... and many more... What was his name if I may ask...
Sounds like he was running a WR, made by F.L smith or a WRW maybe... Yep worked on them as well... your right they are old but not used much these days. those machines are used for short runs of 100k or less.. quick change machines... not like 627,527, 1201, Ra-600 or Ra800 machines... I guess it could of happend...
