"Some Pis were broken in the course of making this video" hehe... that's the first time I've seen a case add on an integrated RTC battery. I haven't put together my own yet, but I hope to this week. Now I have a nice cheat sheet for my build! Some very weird bits on here, like those giant pogo pins for the power button adapter board :D
Also see the pinned comment. It has a load of customisation via a webpage. I totally missed it as there was no mention in the github 😳👍🏼
@@leepspvideo I've come to realize that linking both ways on things like code repositories to documentation sites is very useful. I think some people silo their work and don't think to put a reciprocal link so people coming at it from the code can get to the documentation (and vice-versa!).
I thought the Pogo-pins were a bit weird, too - like if they are being used to run current through, will they get carbon deposits over time?
I want to call it overengineered but, not gonna lie, I really like all of the little features and extra thought that went into this.
Interesting video.
Just love these cases that cost more than the board itself.
That transition from your camera to screencapture was so seemless I had to watch it 5 times just to notice the cut. Very impressive editing.
Very expensive, but also at the same time extremely good. Got me the Pironman 5 and it possibly is the best Raspberry case that I've seen so far and I'm doing Raspberries since the days of the Pi 2
It's cool to see the pi getting its own version of the iron man suit.
As you suggested Lee, I dismantled it all and added a thermal pad onto the RP1 chip (which is under the heatsink plate) and it has considerably reduced its running temperature.
I've been into computers for awhile now exclusively windows. I really like tech DIY and picked up a pi 5 a couple weeks ago at my local microcenter and to tell you I was out of my league is an understatement haha your videos are so digestible and informative, even if your topics don't cover specifically what I'm after it puts me in the room with an idea of what to do. Absolutely killer job my man. Looking forward to the future of the 5 with ya, cheers 🎉
You are lucky! I used to live near a micro center. Now I Need to drive to another state to visit a micro center.
I am going to use one of these cases as a little home server for a specific purpose, and it will sit on the shelf next to my main PC, which the styling is somewhat similar, should look right at home. cant wait.
Mine is being delivered tomorrow. This video is perfect timing! Thanks
Whilst there is no denying that it looks cool, I've always been the sort of person who refuses to waste money looking cool.
I got the case too and was very happy with it. the tower cooler doesnt fit but the send me a new one. The provided software is a little over-engeneened i think.
Just bought this case looks so good ;)
I am a total newbie. Using thePi5 strictly for music streaming with a HifiBerry Digi2 hat. Thank you for the insight and guidance.
Fan profiles are semi-controllable via the web portal. Some basic RGB control and monitoring graphs are available there too.
Looks like the fans are pulling air out. But where does the air get in? Maybe the fans should be installed so one pulls air in, and the other pushes air out?
One of the manual drawings has the air coming in through the GPIO window.
@@icbm_guy So what happens when you put a big plug into the GPIO window?
I just built one of these a week ago. On mine I couldn't screw in the NVMe board, the screws were too short. It's just hanging by the rivet. It's darn cute tho. I made it into a mini console emulation box.
Are you running batocera? If so - will fan control, colours, mini-lcd screen etc work?
@@Evilkingus I'm running RetroPie, which I had to do via RPi OS and a manual install so I could get the fan control and RGB/screen stuff to work.
dust filters for outflow dont make much sense, but cool stuff
Ordered one of these after seeing this video but still no word on shipment which has me concerned... Didn't realize it's shipping directly from China...
Really love this case but was a bit disappointed with the industrial finish for the price: Eg. External screw holes not countersunk to make a smooth appearance and lots of gaps. I fixed my issues by making surfaces flat & wrapping the side & top with a fake carbon fiber wrap.
Would be nice if it had 2 or 3 NVME slots and a less fiddly assembly. Toolless NVME access, larger Display
Great video..
wish you hadnt skipped over how to remove the official cooler. I have ruined 2 Pi 5s trying to get that darn thing off. Would love to see how you did that in a short. Please?
I've done this once using a cheap biro - place the hole in the end over the plastic pin and push. It came out a lot easier than I thought it would. The thermal pads weren't a problem - again I thought they would be.
Amazing
I wanted to buy a piroman but at $80 was a bit much
I suppose you could use it with a Pi4 just without the pcie connection?
@@martinparker9044 better to buy the original for Pi 4
❤
Very curious as to what works on this case in a Windows 11 setting on the Pi 5, and if something like FanController can control the fans.... Any idea @leepspvideo ?
@@JB-NZ I haven’t found a way of controlling the fans on a Pi 5
I noticed you had a an IceTower Plus. Will that fit into the Pironman case? I bought an IceTower Plus and I'm very happy with it. (Fan never comes on) and I don't want to give it up.
@@bo-bodad8253 it’s too big to fit inside the Pironman
@@leepspvideo Thought so but I thought I'd check..Case is lovely (although a bit pricey) but the Ice Cooler Plus is In a class by itself.
Good video Lee but what a faff on and the fact the connector broke off the Pi has put me right off buying one.
@@router5840 I don’t think it’s common for the rtc connection to break of the Pi. I use the similar fan connection regularly without issues
The case fans exhaust out so there's no need for the dust filters I left them out for much better airflow
thanks again - BTW since loading the Pironman software, i cant get "sudo raspi-config" to work. Says command not found. Any tips as I want to change back to load SD Card first - ie not NVme?
@@crisgrant3745 try raspi config from the desktop. Or write Raspberry Pi os to an sd card and update the eeprom with that os.
I can't get my NVMe to work
@@icbm_guy did you see this video?
which NVMe drives work with a Raspberry Pi 5?

@@leepspvideo Thanks! It turns out I bought the wrong model NVMe to begin with. I have an Inland now ant it's working great!
@leepspvideo I don't know which to choose between Raspberry Pi zero 2W or Orange Pi zero 3, my goal is emulation and some games and apps, but I'm undecided :(, if you can give me some advice
@@hp7090 Orange Pi is more powerful
Orange Pi zero3. From $17.99 (1GB version)
th-cam.com/video/MOt9HRcLVgo/w-d-xo.html
Orange Pi Zero 3. 4K streaming from my NAS.
th-cam.com/users/shortscjVoLY4HN1U?feature=share
But not as well supported
Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye running on Orange Pi Zero 3
th-cam.com/video/Eurvdj4qT2o/w-d-xo.html
As long as it’s older emulation I would go Raspberry zero 2w
Retropie. Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. PSP, N64, PS1 & more tested.

Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. First time setup. Far better performance with Zram.

No PoE option for this case ?
@@johnpeters4214 I didn’t see it mentioned
Are these available in the UK?
@@johndoudar6395 I linked the Sunfounder store in the description as I couldn’t see it on Amazon
Is anyone making pi 4 box slightly bigger or something colored black, geen or pink so that I could put pi 5 inside it teoretically with all bigger fans and things I dont like complite box as a desing for pi 5 to me pi 4 box looks better work of art and seems more like my cup of tea XD ???
Does this solution support PoE?
No
case is overkill , much to big , i use Neo 5 case with NVME , more then enough for this kind of SBC, the cooling is ridicilous
@@ronaldhofman1726 thank you for your order, your shipment will arrive soon…….
Got one, built it, will not power on.
@@billybob2025 that’s a shame, I didn’t have any power issues as seen in the video. Does the usb c hdmi board work on its own?
Oh dear. A good example of OTT accessories. The number of components alone elicits a facepalm.
For me, more laughable than interesting. Then there is the price, just to exemplify my thoughts.
GOJO GETTING CLAPPED IN 4K???????
that costs over mini-PC, wasted🤣
That was my thought exactly. Looking cool seems to cost serious money so the choice is to not look cool.
bloody expensive, flushing ££££ down the toilet.
I agree. I can pick up a used SFF PC on your favourite auction site for £50 right now - it will have a 3rd or 4th generation Core i5 or i7 CPU in it, 4 or 8GB RAM and will blow any Pi 5 out of the water for speed and power. And for about half the cost when you factor in the cost of the Pi, cooling and even a cheap case.
The Pi was great as a cheap £35 board to have on an electronics workbench, to teach kids to program on or just to teach yourself about Linux. Unfortunately, pandering to the people who believe the Pi should be a desktop replacement and demanding more and more power from it with each upgrade has just made it too expensive where the economics no longer work for it.
