One of the best documentary films I have seen thus far on the Nam war. Extraordinary footage from those times depicted as well as the commentary. Even the music had it's own thing. I miss you dad. 53'-00'. SMC, helicopter mechanic.

No doubt this is the best documentary series ever produced about Vietnam War, and I am grateful to honorable Sao Vang for sharing it with all of us.
Nevertheless, I think it is about time that these two impressive Republics which were so ferocious enemies at that time, Vietnam and USA, now should produce together some new edition of documentaries on the same issue.
I can suppose they should be from historical, social, political and military point of view, certainly more thorough and accurate. I am convinced that the intensity and relevance of that struggle, as well as the human sacrifice involved, deserve worldwide remembrance and a new approach.
Forever respect and admiration towards the Republic of Vietnam!

more like propaganda, there is no way communism was going to spread to other Asian countries and Australia, that's a joke. There was no reason for America to be in Vietnam in the first place, just like there is no reason for America to be involved in any other wars, illegal occupations, invasions since

Just like the Americans that came after them, the French were underestimated the will power of the Vietnamese, had no understanding of their thousand years of history of fighting and defeating the invaders, their love of independence and liberty, and their never surrender/hard headed mentality. I'm very proud to carry that Viet blood through my veins.

It's not so much that the French or Americans underestimated their spirit, more that they just couldn't do anything about it...
At Dien Bien Phu the French were just taken by surprise by the level of Sino-Russian training, supply and support. Before that the VietMinh were completely incapable, like they were when the French and British + Indians and Japanese beat them effortlessly before, despite being seriously outnumbered and having to start with Communists already occupying Saigon.
It should be appreciated that even years later the French had almost no equipment in that part of the world. So much so that they had 0 bombers..... 0.... France was a fake power by then.
Without much in the way of French heavy weapons the Chinese supply and support basically meant that the French were completely outgunned and practically helpless... that's what happened at Dien Bien Phu - the French were at the mercy of Viet Minh guns.
Their opposition had seemingly suddenly transformed from a lightly armed untrained rabble to a basically competent force with heavier firepower than the French and an endless supply of ammunition.
Even then the French defenders managed to take out 3x more attackers...
But right at the start when it became clear what the Russians and Chinese had contributed, the French new they had lost.
In fact the commander apologised and committed suicide pretty much at the start of the battle.
Having said that French and Imperial French forces for the most part were practically untrained and next to useless... Only their Paras were good in a real fight.
They were also mostly savages that carried out rapes seemingly every time they stopped anywhere 🤦🏻‍♂️ spreading hatred everywhere.
You couldn't really call them soldiers if you ask me.
They were thoroughly undisciplined and not very seriously trained.
The Vietcong and NVA, learning from the 1st Indochina war and the early stages of the Second Indo China war when the Americans were mainly supervising only, did become extremely proficient... By the time the war with the US really got going the VC/NVA were better than the Americans, who after gaining experience mostly simply rotated out, wasting that experience.
The kill ratio, which most people mistakenly believe to be in favour of the Americans, was actually vastly in favour of the VC/NVA who were by that time superior jungle fighters.
It's true that they were fiercely dedicated, robust and determined right from the beginning and throughout, and that pretty much guaranteed their victory, as long as their allies kept supplying them. They were, of course, a lot more committed than any of their enemies.
But it should be remembered that lost of Vietnamese fought on the other side, so it's not right to just declare a 'general vietnamese will'.

The largest shame of this war in my opinion, of course other than human life was the loss of america! A lot of people do not fully understand history and the chain of events. Viet nam was an ally! After world war one Viet nam was demanding independence and they had every right to it. They where fighting the same imperialistic power america fought for its independence and that's why our body politic aligned with the Vietnamese people. The human spirit and thirst for freedom can not be defeated! Just as the British arrogance learned the hard way Americans learned the same lesson they taught Britain. You can not conquer the human spirit. The Vietnamese didn't fight for communism but freedom! They where forced into labor and there land was being exploited by the French for rubber. Much more to it of course but that is the jest. After world war two the major powers decided the French would get Viet nam back. Think about how arrogant that is. Kick out the Japanese the so called Jap's and then put the French in charge. Roosevelt would never have approved that! But Truman was weak and america shifted its body politic to imperialistic rule. Eisenhower could only think of communism conquering the world! We traded our beliefs for safety! When we should have continued to stand on principal and the Vietnamese communist or not would have never even been a problem for america. It was such paranoia! Now today it goes on and on, country after country! No world peace! Why? Because we don't think as one human with pursuit of liberty and justice for all! We all think racist, nationalist, only about ourselves! World peace will come when people begin to fight for what's right not what color your skin is or what religion you believe in but for freedom and liberty for everyone on earth! Fuck America! And that's satire if you don't understand it! America isn't a place its an idea and when we regain it we can be that shining star on the hill. The truth is every human being on earth just wants to free!
