Scientology makes it easy for public officials to side with them. They invite them to huge parties where they are served with the best meals and entertainment, they are shown all of the icing (PR) on top of Scientology. And all of this gives them a warm feeling as a proud supporter. So much, that it doesn't even cross their mind to do deeper research into types of crimes they're supporting by doing this.
