I did this a couple months ago and your video did a nice job explaining the process, it would have been a lot easier . A note for people using port 465. The company hosting my email domain uses port 465 and when postfix runs it adds a comment to include two additional lines in main.cf file. Finally a nice concise video explaining the steps.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated And thanks for sharing the info about your own experience From what I've read about port 465 I presume the extra lines are because postfix is trying to deal with the different mechanism?
Thanks for mentioning this The SDN option caught my eye so I wasn't paying much attention to that feature Although as the upgrade just came out this week. it will be a few months before I try it But it's certainly something to look forward to
I agree, but there is some issues within the 8.1. I do have it on one of my test nods but for production I wait until the sun rices next time (jan 17).
As always, a clear and complete tutorial ! I configured my proxmox notifications in the same way a few weeks ago, I kinda wish this video had been released at that time 😂 I noticed Proxmox version 8.1 contains a new SMTP parameter in the notififations section of the datacenter view. Have you had the opportunity to try it ? (I have not upgraded yet)
No I haven't touched 8.1 yet as for me it's too soon, but the SDN option in particular caught my attention The usual recommendation is to wait a few months before installing a new upgrade in case it has problems As a fairly recent example, a VMWare update came out that resulted in purple screens and they ended up removing it

With proxmox 8.1 it is much easier to setup notifications. I simply setup my individuell smtp configs and that's it! No postfix, no aliases.

@@nalle475 Concerning SDN I agree, but SMTP is nothing new and it works fine for now.

+1
what is the fancy "screensaver" you have running in the background in the beginning of the video?
Unfortunately I don't have it anymore and it was so long ago that I don't remember
I tried searching for what it was but alas no joy
@@TechTutorialsDavidMcKone ok, thanks for your time at least.
