Whenever i feel sad or bad about myself for whatever reason or just when i have a really bad day and i am a mess, at the end of that day I come back here to this short video and somehow listening to her it lifts my spirit up and makes me feel better. Thank you Emily if you are reading this, you are a true inspiration to me. Your thoughts and music manage to transform my pain into something beautiful! The pain may not go away but it is now different, meaningful yet not ready to fly away, it just hangs there for a bit and it's beautiful.
This is one of the nicest and honest documentaries I've seen. Musicians tend to be so overwrought when they talk about their art, so internalized, what they are sharing gets lost in ego and indulgence. What I like about this doc is how direct and straightforward it is - I imagine Emily is much the same - and as such it feels not only true but accessible. Who hasn't felt the same fear when Emily says "I am really scared and I don't know where my life is going ..."
I just see that you were in Buenos Aires... now the trains are better haha... I die for you to come to play for these lands... the audience is the best
Raw, Vulenerable, I love it. Truly an artist. Inspiring. It's amazing how keeping it real, being true to you, you can change the world. Thank you Emily for putting your heart out there. I wish I could meet you someday. Your Fantasies album really hits close to home for me. I glad that I am not alone.
first song i heard from the band was "help i´m alive" and i fell in love with the band in that moment. I cant believe you wrote that here in Buenos Aires, hey .....ahem, thats another reason to come here to play, please !!! :D
Beautiful! I love the things she says in this video. Describes the way I feel at the moment and the kind of escape and discovery I seek when I travel to other places
I think Emily is one of the most talented, coolest and genuine artists/Musicians ...music is not only about "Music Itself" is about a life. feelings, emotion,...when you are a real musician, one that give your life to music and when things are not going in the way u want or u expected, music and your life can be very scary and difficult .... Anyway I wish Emily and Metric the best success and "Fantasies" is their best album yet! Good Luck!!!!!!
Emily is Beautiful, reminds me of Gwen Stefani. I've connected more with their 'Fantasies' work more than their previous work, though to be honest I haven't heard much of the previous, am getting through it all.
@welltoonces It was a interview to inspire others and promote her band. While she was actually on her trip she didn't get people to film her lmfao. She was flown there and scenes were shot for the video. Same as films based on people's lives, they aren't shot as events happen lol. And she left Canada to find that feeling because there are A LOT of people who know her in Canada, whom she didn't want to bother her at the time.
if i was in Buenos Aires and I saw Emily get off of the train... I don't know if I'd pass out or try to say hi.. probably pass out so I could leave her alone in peace so she could do some amazing writing love you emily :)
Thank you metric for what you've brought to us. We love your music ^^ Honestly Metric and Vanessa Carlton are what I listen to 90% of the time^^ Nohting else feels all that deep or real or fun (except newboys n toby mac) You're all so cool and now no one can say nothing good has ever come from Canada. (South Park is soooooo wrong lol) I LOVE YOUR MUSIC METRIC!!!!!!!!
Haha that's EXACTLY what I was thinking, like I wouldn't know whether to approach her or say I think your voice is heavenly and I love your songs and thank you so much for making music... as that's probably the last thing she'd want, to be disturbed by some fan fawning all over her.
Very proud of the music made in my hometown of Buenos Aires. I can't believe Metric's biggest record has its roots there. Metric, Invisible, La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros, Vox Dei, Los Abuelos de la Nada and many others wrote classics in CABA!
Wow, i never heard about her...but such a beautiful voice make me google her, (and "ares" her too, xD). Anyway, she seems like a great artist, with deep feelings and emotions. Greetings from B.A
Is there any chance this exact acoustic version of "Help I'm Alive" sung by Emily in this video will ever be available to buy? I love this stripped down acoustic version so much, it so perfectly matches her sentiments on life when she wrote it...so real.
she is right, doesnt neccesarly had to be buenos aires but when youre in a place you call home everything is easy or becomes boring with the same schedule and you wonder whats next in your life. when you go to a different country and you soak everything in, you get to see how other peoples lives are harder than yours. How other people finds ways to have fun and enjoy life than money or whatever problems you may have. you learn from other people and it inspire you when you realize how lucky you are to even exist and you just want to better yourself when you go back home.
OMG i love this album i thought it was the best yet and she wrote it in buenos aires??? are u kidding me?? so i guess that it is true when people say that argentina is the best place to get away..i mean i live in argentina but..well...many other singers and bands came to write here roxette..julieta benegas...madonna..i can't remember more but there were some more ..nice...
@tbmuex that's the great thing about her songs...layers....they just make more and more sense the more you look at them. including near and future apocalyptic scenarios.
I'm from Toronto and I've been to Buenos Aires and the most mindboggling question from this whole video is how did she manage to get a seat on the subway?!?
.....ok 'this' video 'finally' shows an reflects her ago of 36 years!! ...often appears like in 20's, but now can 'feel' her connection and reflection in this one on one clip.
@xbeautifulxliex123 i'm from buenos aires, and thats a very good question, but thats a train not the subway, and thats the one i take every morning to work, needless to say i never saw her there of course, its a long shot but i still have some hope, i mean she left a few years ago but she might come back, right? right?? riiiteee???
I agree with you on everything but the last point you made. If the band would have continued on the in the spirit of "Live it out", maybe. They would have faded eventually. But Fantasies almost seems like a return to the roots, the campfire of the versions are very mature, almost like the grown up, natural progression of Butcher. Like Emily said in the video, she found her purpose again, the focus on the music rather than the audience.
Do you see the effect Metric has on me? This has got to be what... the hundredth time I have watched this video? Even as Fantasies is like... two weeks away! By the way, is it true that you're pushing the album up to April 7th?

I wish more girls had exposure to positive, creative, and real role models like Emily. She's stunningly genuine; genuinely stunning
She's my inspiration. I can't even recall how many times I've watched this. Still gives me chills every time.
Both Metric and Buenos Aires will always have a special place in my heart. Hope you'll be touring Europe soon
She is beautiful, innovative and intellectual.
Truly a music icon.
I watch this video over and over, especially when I'm in need of inspiration. She's so real and so talented.

Buenos Aires is a beautiful city, I can totally see how it could inspire someone to do something amazing.
We'll glad if you come back and give us a concert in Buenos Aires :)
Loving Metric.
It's nice to see that people appreciate her not only for her obvious beauty, but also for her intellect.
This soft version of Help i'm alive needs to be a hidden track or something! it's great!
Please come to Buenos Aires again and play here!
que venga a tocar con Metric a Buenos Aires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is absolutely amazing.
Thank you Emily Haines and Metric. Just...thank you.
Beautiful!
I love the things she says in this video. Describes the way I feel at the moment and the kind of escape and discovery I seek when I travel to other places
you have the most unique voice and i love your songs. there better than anyone elses!
this sounds so much more melancholy in comparison to the studio version. They are so fresh and honest, absolutely love them they are just....real.
She is so amazing and so underrated
I think Emily is one of the most talented, coolest and genuine artists/Musicians ...music is not only about "Music Itself" is about a life. feelings, emotion,...when you are a real musician, one that give your life to music and when things are not going in the way u want or u expected, music and your life can be very scary and difficult ....

I couldn't feel prouder of being argentinian right now. Thanks Emily for coming here :)
This is really inspirational turning your unhappiness into a piece of art is incredible
Wow. She is amazing. It's really hard to move to a place where you don't know anyone at all but still she's doing well over there.
such an inspirational artist and so fucking beautiful, i love u emily haines!

How gorgeous! Beautiful and brilliant! She drives me crazy.

this video inspires me as a writer. especially when she talks about simplicity.
Haha that's EXACTLY what I was thinking, like I wouldn't know whether to approach her or say I think your voice is heavenly and I love your songs and thank you so much for making music... as that's probably the last thing she'd want, to be disturbed by some fan fawning all over her.
she's beautiful, intelligent, inspiring, and i want her dress.

i find her absolutely enthralling and her music is really very good.
Very proud of the music made in my hometown of Buenos Aires. I can't believe Metric's biggest record has its roots there. Metric, Invisible, La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros, Vox Dei, Los Abuelos de la Nada and many others wrote classics in CABA!

I love that she is wearing a T. Rex shirt... Imagine the music she and Marc Bolan could've written together, if he were still alive. Shivers.

+Blacksheep01 I prefer their acoustic versions too. I believe their next album is supposed to be acoustic. Can't wait for it to come out.
@blacksheep pretty sure their B-sides Fantasies album has all the acoustic stuff on it
I really want to go to Argentina.
she is right, doesnt neccesarly had to be buenos aires but when youre in a place you call home everything is easy or becomes boring with the same schedule and you wonder whats next in your life. when you go to a different country and you soak everything in, you get to see how other peoples lives are harder than yours. I'm from Toronto and I've been to Buenos Aires and the most mindboggling question from this whole video is how did she manage to get a seat on the subway?!?
come to play at argentina!!!!!!
.....ok 'this' video 'finally' shows an reflects her ago of 36 years!! ...often appears like in 20's, but now can 'feel' her connection and reflection in this one on one clip.
thank you.
I can't believe that she was living here in my city!!
i lveot his video. Emily is amazing. Oooooo what kind of boots is she wearing in the beginning of the video?? i love them? does anyone know?
Seems very cool and down to earth
@csarito I love how she totally did go back! Around the same time that you wrote this comment actually!
@xbeautifulxliex123 i'm from buenos aires, and thats a very good question, but thats a train not the subway, and thats the one i take every morning to work, needless to say i never saw her there of course, its a long shot but i still have some hope, i mean she left a few years ago but she might come back, right? right?? riiiteee???
ya and she went to my high school when she was in high school its a school for the arts like music drama and visual arts
I agree with you on everything but the last point you made. If the band would have continued on the in the spirit of "Live it out", maybe. They would have faded eventually. But Fantasies almost seems like a return to the roots, the campfire of the versions are very mature, almost like the grown up, natural progression of Butcher.
