It is really sad when people do that. It's super messed up how people will attack their family members. Our even when they get mad at the parents for crying and being upset when their child is sentenced to life. Yes, what their child did is unforgivable, but they are still their child. They can know what they did was horrible and still mourn for them. My dad abused me when I was little and I was still devastated when he died. I mourned the person he could have been if he hadn't been so broken himself. Sorry to get so personal I just wanted to express that I understand what the parents go through from personal experience and not just guessing.

Somehow this makes me think of all the “last victims” who survived. Quick wits and courage helped them survive, and not only that, the motivation to stop their games. Because they know they can’t or won’t be the only one. The ones before them put their hope and spirit into the adjoining victims to survive. I remember the story of a 15 yo hitchhiker who got both her arms chopped off, she played dead, got thrown off of a cliff, and knew she had to survive. She waited until he left for good, and packed her wounds. She didn’t sleep because she knew she would die, and I honestly believe that somehow the spirits of all the women before her helped her to climb back up to the road.
“She had every right, you just caught her off guard tonight.”
Don’t go with someone to a second location. Don’t just allow them to take you. Fight. Even if you die, get their dna under your damn fingernails. Make sure cleanup is messy. Fuck em up. They don’t deserve the satisfaction of an easy kill.

    • @emstink
      @emstink ปีที่แล้ว +95

Often luck. Quick wits, courage, motivation, only gets you so far. It's not that the other victims didn't have the 'motivation' to live or stop a killer. It's not that they weren't brave. It's not that they were slow. That's the point of 'She had every right, you just caught her off guard tonight, and the only advantage a killer has is that they think they have the right.' You can be the biggest badass on the planet, it's not going to help you when you're sitting in a library, reading a book, and some absolute twat thinks he has the right to shove a knife into your neck and keep stabbing until your lungs are full of your own blood.
Those who escape? They're awesome sure. But lets be careful we don't insult the victims who didn't get away to praise them. That kind of language seeps into everything, even illness. 'She got cancer at 23 but her motivation to live kept her going!', no, it's a lot of luck, and a lot of medical intervention. The motivation is commendable. But it also implies the other girl who got cancer at 23 and didn't live, just didn't have enough motivation to live.

But he wasn't some kind of evil genius, he was definitely below average in terms of intelligence. One of the main reasons it took so long to catch him was because he came off as relatively unassuming and could kind of blend in. And he was white, so not subject to racist stereotypes of POC being more violent and likely to be criminals. As she said, he was just kind of charismatic and white, and not much else. this song isn't just about the romanticisation of serial killers, it's about how a lot of true crime fans overestimate themselves. take the lyrics "Ya' know, Dennis Rader and David Parker Ray actually sit together in Hell
/ Shaking, quaking, terrified that one day, somehow, someway / They might meet me" for example - she's satirizing how many true crime fans will act like they're experts on the subject with the idea that two literal serial killers would be afraid of a teenager who listens to podcasts.

It reminds me of when I was watching Mind Hunter and looking into the similarities and differences. Oddly enough it was Ed Kemper who basically brought up how the way they thought about serial killers was utelizing the survivor fallacy. Everything we think we know about what they’re “normally like” actually only really tells us about what the killers who get caught are normally like. We really have no idea what the traits of someone who consistently gets away with it would be. Kemper himself said that he “only got caught because he wanted to” and from looking into the story he’s probably right, he wasn’t even close to being a suspect for ANYTHING he did and was good friends with law enforcement. It’s chilling to think about how many completely un detected killers are probably out there. How many Ed Kemper are out there who DIDNT choose to turn themselves in and will die free men.

Most people have it save to the “cloud” automatically so even if your phone gets destroyed, any extra electronics you have can be cracked and photos can be found.

How a lot of girls will have a casual obsession with true crime, in an effort to equip there selves, to know the dangers - as no one else will protect them. It's sad.
think the last line "we'll be just fine, we listen to a lot of true crime." is quite clearly sarcastic and is asking society at large to do more protect "our girls" from the danger they face every day.

Always lock your car door right when you get in even if you're just gonna sit there for a bit. Also check your backseat before you get in. And check your surroundings before approaching your vehicle. Keep your pepper spray/taser on you when approaching your vehicle in case someone tries to jump you. If you carry make sure your firearm is easily accessible and that you know how to use the safety/load/fire the thing. If you have a knife I wouldn't even let them know I have it until they feel it in the gut/neck. If they're targeting you, then they forfeit the right to back out.

Nowadays, everyone is fanning over serial killers and some people are even simping for them, I honestly don’t mind if it’s a fictional character, but simping for a real life serial killer is icky, personally, I’ve never been able to stand how they’ve killed innocent people, especially child murderers. So this girl's outside behind the bar

    She called a car
Y'got three motherfuckers in a big white van
Two dumb friends and one mean man
    Well she'll fucking kill you
    She wins every fight
She's gonna rock your shit by the end of the night
And the only advantage that a killer has
Is they think they have the right
I listen to a lot of true crime
I listen to it at night
    I like the girl talk
    It makes me feel alright
I like scary stories in the morning
And I like them at night
I like the girl talk vibes
They make me feel just fine
I listen to a lot of true crime
Y'know Dennis Rayder and David Parker Ray
    Actually sit together in Hell
    Shaking quaking terrified
    That someday
    Somehow someway
    They might meet me
They took our girls away from home
They're in the woods they're all alone
The ropes are heavy and the knots are tight
Tied by a monster and his oblivious wife
Well I hope this doesn’t seem too impolite
But Ted Bundy was just never that fucking bright
He was just sorta charismatic and White alright
And he was so fucking sure he had the right
But he’s ugly and I’m glad he’s dead
Cuz there was no fucking candle in his pumpkin head
You’re not special for winning a game
With someone who you know was never playing
    She could’ve killed you
    She had every right
You just caught her off guard tonight
    But it’s alright
    She’ll be fine
We listen to a lotta true crime
One of our young turned up last night
They found their body but not their eyes
    Somebody new must’ve
    Gone bad
Where’s the lord to take care of that
Where’s the lord to take care of that
I listen to a lot of true crime

@@ania519 I literally had all of that except the arguing parents, and although I'm sorta aggressive on impulse sometimes due to my head injury and traumas, I would never think of killing or harming someone seriously or any of that lol.
Whatever the murderer/rapist did was entirely on them, whether people like it or not. They love to try and justify it but they still had the capacity to tell someone and try to better their lives, they just chose not to. They weren't stupid, they had high IQs and were described as generally intelligent, so they were told that people didn't understand them so they couldn't help them, but that's a lie. People can understand them and help them, but they again chose not to get help, and the people who were supposed to give it to them didn't actively try to help them. Having a healthy support system makes all the difference and it's sad that people don't realize that. I don't think people even understand what that means: a support system also includes yourself. My teachers and parents loved me and helped me through my struggles and that was what made all the difference for me. The people in these killers' life ostracized them, yes, but these people also had a chance to truly love themselves, worry about themselves, care about themselves, and seek to understand themselves in a non-destructive way. If they didn't take it, again, that's on them.

@@xsweetiebloomx605 true, they could've gotten help but they never did and everything they did was their fault in the end, no matter how people/events influenced them
I do think we should pay more attention to their life before their crimes though and see how that ties in, people say there was no way to tell something was wrong, that it came out of nowhere, that they mustve been born evil, ect but thats often false. Something definitely happened to just tip them over the edge, (yeah some of them were born like that but it probably wouldn't have gotten to that point otherwise). Wether thats abuse, mental illness trauma or a head injury that messed with their brain, something happened. So people should really see how that ties in and keep that in mind, without creating any empathy for the killer in question of course
It could also help with future research ect but yeah
