  • Lieko Shiga explains why she began photographing Kitakama, a small coastal town in Japan that was destroyed by the tsunami of March 11, 2011. She describes how her series Rasen Kaigan (Spiral Shore) (2008-12) conveys the spirit and history of the community.

    Coming back to this video after 3 years. Back in 2019 I saw Shiga's photos at Biennale in Yekaterinburg and was very interested in a story behind it. Beautiful work and a tragic event I didn't hear much about before. Thank you for sharing this story and making such a very informative and atmospheric interview
