      hello i would just like to ask, i think my fan is not working properly, when i MAX it, the air is very strong in the side panels but both the back is nothing(gpu right side) while the left cpu side is barely a breeze(lower than a whistle air)? is this a problem?

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Daniel. Sounds like your rear exhaust fins needs a good cleaning. If the air is strong from the sides and less from the rear, it's most probably blocked.
      When last did you clean the inside of your laptop?

      Hey bro, I was going through the tutorial on this video and noticed that I didn't buy any thermal pads. I was wondering if I can just use the thermal paste (kryonaut in this case) on the part where you used pads instead.

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@laisensei6984 Hey! I wouldn't recommend doing that. Regular thermal paste are low in viscosity and the gap between the chips and heatsink would not fill. Hence, there would not be any heat transferred, leading to high temps.
      If your thermal pads are still good, you can still use them and it's not necessary to replace.
      Or else replace with new one 🙂

    • @laisensei6984
      @laisensei6984 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MVNDRVX Well I pretty much skipped the thermal pads part and only put thermal paste on CPU and GPU. There isn't much obvious effect from that though. It only lowered my average temp by several degrees (in fact I'm not even sure if that's caused by the thermal paste or if that's actually due to me cleaning my fans).

      For GPU it is arround 19°C drop and for CPU it is approximately 10-12°C drop which is significant I would say and keep in mind I don't have AC in my room and room temperature was 25-28°C.

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thanks for watching. Glad you got to learn something new. You should open the fans and clean them since most of the dust will be stuck at the exhaust fins, which blocks the hot air from blowing out therefore causing thermal issues. Make sure you repaste the CPU and GPU with a good quality paste in case you're planning to dismantle the fan unit or else air bubbles might form in the thermal paste when placing the heatsink back. I have undervolted, reduced processor power, etc. It does help with thermals a little bit but takes a hit on performance.

      If you're struggling with high power usage and high temps, simply change the maximum state to 90%. The hit to performance is negligible but helps limit the CPU overperforming

      nah man it do be like that not unless you are living in cold climate but if you’re in tropical countries, its inevitable. Also have the same unit and im in ph thats why i hit 90+ the solution i did is downclock my cpu from 4.0ghz to 3.2 ghz doesnt really have impact on performance but has significant reduction in temps. also i tried playing in cold rooms and i noticed that i have really low temps even on high settings and overclocked. Its ur ambient temp that you should be blaming really. You would know when to repaste is when you’re hitting high temps even on idle.

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At those temps, repasting would be the best thing you could do to save your laptop. High temps kill your laptop sooner.

      @@iconxmath8830 Hi. There are drops in temperature but there's a limit. You can't expect much from a laptop. If you want more better thermals, then i would suggest you go for liquid metal. • @MVNDRVX

      Memory chips do produce certain amount of heat but not as much as the CPU & GPU itself. So most of the system heat comes from the CPU & GPU.
      I feel the pink paste is just an overkill and regular 0.5mm pads works just fine.

      You can make sure you're grounded during the process to make sure there's no risk of static electricity short circuit. These cases are rare though. In case you don't find a grounding device, just touch some metal to discharge.
      Thermal pads don't need to be replaced unless it's gone bad. Mine got flaky and was all over the motherboard so had to replace them. If at all you're replacing your thermal pads, I'd recommend you go for at least 6W/mK.

      2. I'm thinking about buying an antistatic mat and straps just to be safe ig. Is it worth it or is the risk of static electricity damage is very small?

    The thermal pads should only be replaced if they're dry and flaky like yours, right? Should I buy the pads in advance just to be sure, or it's okay to just do the repasting and change the pads later if I see they're in a bad situation?
    And would you recommend using those anti static gloves or some sort of anti static pad? Or something else to avoid static, if it's necessary. (I'm a little scared of damaging something)
    Also, this might be a little dumb on my part but bear with me, I saw you recommend in another comment something about applying the pads first, but not the paste yet, fix the heatsink back and after a while remove and check for contacts. I have two questions about this: should I screw the heatsink back on during this, or just place it? And what does a contact looks like, which pads it could be on, and what exactly to do in this case? (For what I could get, the 0.5mm pads go on the ones that had the pink stuff, and the 1.0mm go on the rest, right?)
    Thank you soooo much in advance, this video is pretty much a life saver for me right now, cause just the other day I was doing nothing and the CPU was in 81ºC and it really freaked me out, buy this is the first time I do something like this myself, the most I've done before was adding an extra SSD.

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Before you do anything, remove the back cover to check on the thermal pads. If they are all over the place, it's better you get the pads and replace them along with the paste because once you remove the heatsink, you will have to repaste again so air gaps are eliminated.
      For static electricity, you could just touch some metal to discharge yourself every now and then.
      Checking for contacts meaning to look if imprints have formed. In that way we know that there are no gaps and the thermal pads will transfer heat normally. You will have to screw down the heatsink and let it rest for sometime.

    I’ve had mine for almost 2 years now and never opened it up to clean. The fan is very loud now and the other day my game froze up completely and I couldn’t even open task manager. I’m sure it was overheating as the temp fluctuates between 75-90 Celsius when gaming. I know nothing about computers and afraid to open it up. Is this something I could get done at a computer shop?

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You absolutely can. Just make sure you're there physically to double check the work. Most shops I know will just repaste it and will "not" do a good job cleaning the hardware cause it takes time and patience.

    can you apply thermal pastes on those parts instead of thermal pads?

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No Sir. Regular thermal paste are low in viscosity, hence they would not make any contact due to bigger gaps between the chips and heatsink.

    I have some serious thermal issues. I have done everything i can software vise. I think it's a hardware issue maybe thermal paste is gone or something i don't know. Can you clean it or what should i say to a shop when i want to get it cleaned like u did ?

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want me to clean it for you? What if I took your laptop and disappeared? Lol... I'm just kidding 😋 I could do that for you. Not a problem at all.
      If you're giving it at a shop to do the job, I wouldn't trust them with it. You will still have to open and check for yourself.
      I once gave my old laptop for service due to some motherboard issues cause one of the GPU IC was burnt and when I got it back, I opened it up to check what they had done. To my surprise, I found so much of dust stuck in the laptop, including the fans and I had to clean it out myself. I mean it's an old office laptop and the fans are not hard to reach like this predator model or any other gaming laptop in that case where the fans have an enclosure. The dust was sitting right there as I opened up the back cover and they couldn't even clean it for me. From then on, I decided to do the repasting and cleaning by myself.
      You could give it at a shop, but make sure you don't take the heatsink off in case you want to check later or else air bubbles might form and in return, causing thermal issues.
      Hope that helped. Let me know if you have any other questions. Do SUBSCRIBE to the channel to show some love and support 🙂✌

    • @MVNDRVX
      @MVNDRVX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You're welcome. Thank you for watching 🙂
      If you ask Acer they would suggest 1mm pads on everything.
      But I've done tons of research and came to a conclusion that 1mm is too thick and would have some thermal resistance.
      Many people have asked me this question and my suggestion would be to apply thermal pads as shown in the video. Do not apply the thermal paste yet. Fix back the heatsink.
      Let it rest for a while. Remove the heatsink and check for contacts. If you see contacts on every pad, then you're good to go.
      If there is no contact on some pads, just apply a little bit of paste on them.

    Hey! I have repasted my laptop, although I didn't change the thermal pads (used kryonaut with the spread method). Every other variables are equal, but my laptop is still running hot (It's running on the same temp as before repasting), what do you think is the cause? Is it because of my thermal pads? (To be fair my thermal pads' conditions are worse than yours lol

    • @MVNDRVX

      Then change them!!!!! Lol😆
      Those small chips don't give much heat actually. Most heat come from the CPU & GPU. You wouldn't have applied enough paste.
      Just use the pea drop method(be generous) and let the heatsink pressure do its thing. Remember, too much is OK but too little will not work. Good luck.
