Not only is gyro the answer to the never ending aim assist debate. For those who have never played a game with good gyro controls: IT FEELS SO GOOD! It’s like playing with a mouse that has no friction. Once you get used to it you just can’t go back to RS + aim assist. Feels so off after you know gyro aim.
SO TRUE! I got so used to gyro, that I need it even in games that have no need of gyro. Like I feel handicapped if I don't get gyro feedback from the game.
I needed a formal physics class to understand how destructive friction is to mouse precision. In short, the force it takes to break out of static friction is higher than the force you need to keep an object moving on the same surface. This creates a lurching effect with mice. Whenever I needed to make a very slight aiming adjustment with a mouse from rest, the crosshairs would lunge over and past my target point. Essentially, mice have a minimum distance they must move after exiting a state of rest. Surfaces and skates for the mice exist to greatly diminish this issue, but I rarely see people use them. Gyros, however, have no minimum. That’s why it’s possible to play on NR sensitivity of 20 and above and still be precise.
@@SimonWoodburyForget I'd still wager the skill ceiling for mouse is higher than gyro, but the skill floor for gyro is pretty high. especially with flick stick. cresh's complaints about mouse friction is a bit silly, though. good mice and good mousepads as well as the general movement being a flick and not 0.1mm adjustments kinda makes the point moot.
I tried this myself in the past on PC, it was pretty good and I could pull some impressive stuff I would've never thought was possible on controller, I personally prefer to play with a mouse since that's what I've been using since I have memory, I hope console players can see the power gyro has too.
My only and biggest complain was that the buttons recoiled whenever you pressed them so it would be great if they made a controller with buttons that don't have recoil or that only require touch to send input. It would also be great to have MORE back buttons/back paddles because it's annoying having to reach the face buttons on a controller only then I would consider playing FPS with controllers more but that's another topic.
@@kentreed2011 You are pointing out something that is also true in real firearms. With real guns, you need “trigger discipline.” Have you heard of the saying “squeeze, don’t pull, the trigger?” The principle behind that is keeping the gun steady while you discharge it. The same principle let’s you use a gyro more accurately too! Don’t yank on the trigger of the controller, that’s what’s sending your aim off. Prime the trigger by pulling back near the point it discharges. Then pull SLOWLY when you have your target lined up. If you primed your trigger right (a DualSense with Ps5 and Modern Warfare 2 makes this easy because the trigger gives you haptic feedback for this), the trigger will need very little distance to fire. Just because you are pulling slowly doesn’t make the discharge slow, in this way. There are a couple ways to completely get around the bouncing-aim trigger problem. One is to put the firing button in a disjointed location, like a pedal or the opposite Joycon on the Nintendo Switch. This means motion on the trigger device doesn’t affect the gyro. The other is your solution, which I also thought of very recently: have the trigger activate by touch. This is something you can do with a PC and the DS touchpad, but the pad isn’t really in a great position to be a trigger. I think back buttons or a back pad that can be activated by touch would work better.
