Intelligently read, neither droning nor theatrical. The reader’s American accent is cultivated but not pretentious or forced, and his voice is pleasant. He scores above average in pronouncing biblical names and when he departs from the Received Pronunciation, he leans toward either a Hebraic interpretation or a pronunciation consistent with other words of the same spelling.

What is the Received Pronunciation? I have been listening to a lot of the BibleProject material and would like to find a place where I can hear all the biblical names pronounced with an Hebraic interpretation.

@@philjohn4125 The Received Pronunciation is the pronunciation of Hebrew and Greek as the English pronounced them from at least the 16th centuries if not earlier. No connection at all to the original languages. I love it.

Because the English Language Bible came to the United States from England, the Received Pronunciation of Biblical names held on until about 25-30 years ago, when the fashion arose of affecting the accented final syllable of Hebrew and randomly shifting the vowels to sound more “authentic.”

I'll be honest as to maybe help someone else.
My flesh tries very hard in making me avoid the word. I intellectually know I need it daily and I never regret listening but my flesh has a desire to avoid it.
If you feel like this you are not alone and I hope to join those brothers and sisters who are further in their victory over their flesh.
    In God's grace I rest

Hello there Brother. I have been walking with the LORD since 1975 when I was 21. So, I guess I now qualify as an old codger. I have been listening to a lot of Tim Mackie of the Bibleproject for quite a while now and have come to believe that reading the Old and New Testament Scriptures is not so much about understanding everything I read, which is why I have had so much trouble in reading scripture in the past. But it delights the LORD'S heart that I want to spend time with Him, even if my brain doesn't compute what I am reading. You probably know Ps37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
      .
I am trusting that as I trust Him with all my heart and am not leaning to my own understanding, that as He is the desire of my heart, then He is also my delight and the things of earth continue to grow strangely dim, hallelujah, as I keep my eyes on Jesus.
