- John Coltrane traveled with a BAG of Otto Link mouthpieces. He would choose a specific mouthpiece for performance based on the acoustics of the space the way the mouthpiece felt on a particular day and have mouthpieces worked on by different re-phasers constantly. Kenny Garrett travels with a bag of Selmer soloist mouthpieces in a similar way. Regardless, if you own one mouthpiece or 100 the most important thing is that it enables you to sound like you. If it takes a $4000 Francois Louis custom piece or a $40 3d printed clone to do that- get it and don’t let it go!
