I found the Hellhammer: Apocalyptic Raids EP at My local record store. I was looking for new metal bands with with evil looking covers, that's how I could tell they were good. LOL That EP was the ugliest, dirtiest, most primal metal music I had heard up to that point in 83 . Those songs still play through my memory. Evoked Damnation stands out. I had Show No Mercy and Black Metal and Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing burned into my brain by then. My friends did not accept punk at all at that point even though Discharge pretty much birthed all the heavy shit that came after them. Metal or Punk. Walked into the same record store after reading in Kerrang that Hellhammer had changed the name to Celtic Frost and saw the cover for Morbid Tales and bought it up. I got it home and put it on and....Holy shit that was heavy stuff. I sill listen to that record. Visions Of Mortality stands out. Listen to Procreation Of The Wicked. That is the sludgiest, evil sounding thing I have ever heard to this day. Nocturnal Fear is a combo of Discharge and a Motley Crue song. Strange Acid trip to that one and Danse Macabre Saw them with Voi Vod, I Think, at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach and they were strange dudes, but what a good show. They made a couple more albums after that which I didn't pay much attention to but were along the same lines. Still went to see them when they came through LA a few times after that. Then came Cold Lake and they completely shit the bed and tried to go glam or some crap. I guess they wanted to get chicks to their shows or something but Tom Warrior was an Ugly dude so....NOT. Discharge did the same thing with Grave New World. That is a real Piece of SHIT. Not sure what my point is....So ummmmm....Yeah. I know...Go Back to bed Grampa.
i was born in 2003 way after the golden era of extreme metal music like this. believe me, i LOVE to hear about these stories. the old school metalhead culture completely fascinates me, hell ive started my own vinyl collection just to understand and to go through that experience myself, and i wish to be in a band that plays the kind of stuff the 80s-90s bands put out. but i know it could never be like the real deal. i enjoyed your story alot man! remember, you were part of a history in music, me and many others like me in this day and age are totally fascinated with. @metaldog: I can't believe that anyone would make disparaging remarks on a Celtic Frost video. Anyway, thanks so much because this music is the first wave classic black metal so I'm seeing and listening to Gods.
Nirvana on tour in '89 had a cassette in their van with one side devoted to Celtic Frost ("They were heavy, man!" - Krist) and one side devoted to ABBA, I think? Legend has it that the mix in Kurt Cobain's mind lead to Nevermind.
The other side was the Smithereens. I remember Dave Grohl mentioning that when he was doing interviews for the Probot album around 2004. But I wouldn't be surprised if Kurt also liked ABBA!
@@jvogele7190 Kurt, like his idols, The Beatles, had excellent taste in music. I discovered the Pixies and the Meat Puppets through him and appreciate Flipper and The Wipers. In fact, I think Greg Sage had more influence over Kurt as a guitarist than anyone.

Religious people are one of the first to condemn others for being satanic or blasphemous and it's not their place to do so. Condemning others is an act of supremacy as if they are the most high and can judge and belittle others for not sharing their views. Until they can walk on water they are just as normal as everybody else. They have no business preaching or condemning, they don't know it all but most like to think they do.

@@michaelhz37 I didn´t said the solos weren´t good, I just said they were simple, but effective, actually, if you listen to the solos you can play them, but the way they are played, sequence, tempo, even deliverance by the player, that is what sets them appart and does the thing. Example of another: In ACDC´s razor´s edge the guitar solo isn´t actually that difficult, but playing it like they do? i never get tired of early Frost material
My fav tune by CELTIC FROST 🖤
I found the Hellhammer: Apocalyptic Raids EP at My local record store.
I was looking for new metal bands with with evil looking covers, that's how I could tell they were good. LOL
That EP was the ugliest, dirtiest, most primal metal music I had heard up to that point in 83 .
Walked into the same record store after reading in Kerrang that Hellhammer had changed the name to Celtic Frost
and saw the cover for Morbid Tales and bought it up.
Strange Acid trip to that one and Danse Macabre
Saw them with Voi Vod, I Think, at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach and they were strange dudes, but what a good show.
I hope to one day bring back the old school, but try to be original in my ways too.
@metaldog: I can't believe that anyone would make disparaging remarks on a Celtic Frost video.
Anyway, thanks so much because this music is the first wave classic black metal so I'm seeing and listening to Gods.
This band is a HUGE influence on my own music! Thank you for sharing this!
These guys used to be on my workout playlist when I was in high school. Fast forward 30 years, they’re still on my workout playlist🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
They’re on mine too I’m trying to work out what they’re singing 😂
The good old days of celtic frost when their music was really great, thanks for sharing.
A timeless classic.
I remember jammin this tune in my garage... needless to say, neighbors hated us.
Song is about Gilles de Rais from the 1400's. A priest who lured young boys into his church and did despicable things to them before killing them.
Gilles was knight who fought alongside Joan of Arc. Guy was medieval(hundred years wars against English) knight with alot of money and land.
Macabre did a song about him, also.
Thanks for the history lesson. Love learning stuff about music I love.
@@markymark1112345 dude thats awesome. Macabre still bringing it, I mean they haven't had a new album in yrs but I'm glad they still are doing shows. I fell in love with their hitchhiker song.
Marshall ov Jeann DeArc.
I had no clue there was a video, thanks 4 posting this. I love playing this in the car w/ the windows down loud as hell. Not many people are used 2 seeing a young black man head bangin’ 2 metal, I always get a kick out of people’s reactions. I didn’t get introduced 2 CF until the late 90’s, blew me away! 🤘🏾🤘🏾
I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I love your (visual) comment!! I’m a 67 yr old white chic (still😂) who literally just found out about Celtic Frost/Triptykon 2 hrs ago! I may not be jammin’ or HBangin’ in my car to them anytime soon, but I love everyone’s passion for their music. And, holy shit, still going 💪
What ever happened to Celtic Frost?
Is it true that they got lost
In the pandemonium
Never to be seen again
Tom Warrior fell from a tree in cherry orchard
Martin Ain drowned in a cold lake
Reed St. Mark went to Mega Therion
And remains there 'till this day
Tom Warrior is waiting for the emperor's return
Martin Ain's trapped in the circle of tyrants
Reed St. mark was blinded in the crypt of rays
Where he remains 'till this day
Triptykon
S.o.d. song
It's breakfast time! Celtic Frosted Flakes
One of my most favorite CELTIC FROST songs. The logical step from the HELLHAMMER era.
Amazing that this appeared when it did, regarding what you said about the "religious freaks" trolling the videos. That's exactly what was going on to me when I spotted these.
I told the jerk that I never bow or kneel to anyone or anything, then Celtic Frost appeared. Awestruck but not really surprised because I believe that Tom has just got it like that. Danke, thanks to all involved.
My head is just reeling
over these videos. I don't care if this one is lip synched, someone mentioned, it's still incredible sound and footage
My HS boyfriend turned me on to this- thanks David Perez
I just came across your channel because I was checking out some Celtic Frost. I saw that comment that you pinned and I just want to say thank you. I am an old school Metal head/ Hardcore punk guy. I don't care if I'm dating myself but when I was in High school , it was during the "Satanic panic" in the early 80's. I was cranking Venoms "Welcome to Hell' and "Black Metal" Mercyful Fate e.p with Nuns have no fun. Hellhammer etc. You cant even imagine the names I was called (behind my back) by those zealots. ANYWAY, good for you on putting the kebosh on that person. I was always taught, if you don't like something, turn the other way. And on the other hand, they should be very careful because what they are searching for, they MIGHT find one day \m/ \m/
I hear ya! I was shunned too by the idiots but it never bothered me because I was my own person and didn't give a shit what other people's expectations of me were. Even when I was a heavy metal DJ I got calls at the station from jackasses telling me I was going to hell. Every time I got one of those calls I dedicated Slayer - Hell Awaits to them and said have a nice trip hypocrites! When you can walk on water you can say what you want, but until then you can kiss my ass!
@@Metaldog38sHomeOfMetal HAHAHA!!! You nailed it on the head brother!! Good call with using "Hell Awaits" for your response \m/\m/ "I'll see your bullshit and raise you one SLAYER!" lol BTW-Awesome channel brother!
(I liked, subscribed AND hit the Hells Bell for notifications). Thank you for blasting the sonic thunder that shakes the sheeple in their boots and cuts through them like a hot knife through butter! \m/ \m/
this d beat drums discharge style!!!

I remember listening to this in the 80's with some friends I got stoned with.
Thi is one my best band .80s . Rif raf México 😈🇲🇽
stoned and still have the vinyl record today. greetings from switzerland
I saw CF at Manchester Apollo in England on the To Mega Therion tour, massively impressive! You could tell what Anarco Crust bands like Amebix were secretly listening to..!
Perfect. People are putting in when they saw them, I can't remember the year I saw them or who played with them. But they came to NYC at some point, I guess after this release, because they played it.
Such a dope song. They don't make em' like this anymore.

i was tom warrior for halloween when i was about 14
Bathory Sacrifice and this song are awsome! The combination of Sounds, G.B.H. (Street punk), Motorhead (heavy rock), Venom (metal punk),and Black metal is born...
D-beat metal is cool. The verse sounds like Minor Threat, or I guess it's the other way around, really.
Swiss TV show called "Here We Go" 1985, I have it on vhs tape, its cool the Swiss tv station put this online a few years ago
THANK GOODNESS THAT THIS FOOTAGE STILL EXISTS! fufff! 🔥🔥🔥
i listened to them in final of 80's, and now i still love that thundering song! (hail from brazil)
Still got this Album and i am Proud of it😁🤟🤟🤟
Damn, I wish I could have seen this band was a kid when they started.
Great live act.Greetings from Italy🤘👹🔥
One of the best thrash albums of all time in my book.
Wtf? Past in 80s all the zines used to describe their music as Death Metal.. Just check magazines and pictures of metal graffitis on the wall
This is no thrash. Early black/death more like. Just because something is fast doesn't mean that it's thrash. I'm honestly baffled that people think that CF is a thrash band. Their stuff is wayyyy out of the box and completely different than any thrash band and much heavier
🙋💥🏆✨☁️✈️✨⚡⚡💖🌹🌹🌹🌹💋
@@ciroheadbanger2008That's what I always called Celtic Frost! 💥 I had no idea about those magazines even describing them as such. I consider CELTIC FROST "Death Metal" too! I always have..✨🌠🪦⚡⚡🎸💥💥💥🏆✨⚡⚡💯🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹💋🙋
@@Annihilation_0f_The_Wicked9066I disagree with your statement about them not being 'Thrash'💥🙋
This classic brings back happy memories sitting around a campfire jamming it out on my cassette tape playing portable Boom Box LOL! it's still as relevant and heavy today as it was back then, somethings just get better with time like a fine wine 😈
Celtic Frost, Legendary! 🤘🇨🇭
One night a buddy calls me up and says hey do you got a car let's go down to North and see your show so the Nork in this case is Newark New Jersey we lived one town over a small club called studio One actually had three floors of different types of music and a great venue had a show upon arriving I was so lucky and fortunate enough to find out it was Celtic Frost opening for the one and only King diamond what a great show. If wondering I'm thinking this was early 90s.
This is fricking awesome. Complex, precise, heavy. Surely Motorhead must have heard this? I'd love to know.
I saw Celtic frost in 87 with exodus & anthrax in Dallas I was bleeding from my forehead the people back stage with frost looked like they were in shock !
Black Sabbath meets hardcore punk
And thus the rudimentary corpse paint rhythms that would inspire later black metal, especially Darkthrone... I believe 'Panzerfaust' was a direct response to Celtic Frost's inspiration upon the band....
This is clearly discharge meets venom and Motörhead with some east coast punk
Amazing. Celtic Frost were an Awesome band. And always will be.
Легенда, классика, культ! Спасибо за этот раритет.
Факт! \м/
God level…I first heard this in 87…I was into Venom….sure…but this?

Now in 2021 even if I wanted I could no longer headbang to the Celtic Frost as I used to do back in the 1980s because my neck and spine would snap. Oh my God ageing sucks so much!
This is one of the greatest pieces of music in human history. It is just tragic that Tom G and Martin got soft after this. Still, this is a monument to the enduring human spirit.
Impresionantes Celtic Frost en esa época, para mí los creadores del black metal actual.🇪🇸🤘
Uno de varios
@@erickisaacgomezgarabito3253 black metal, necesito de varias para fornar su sonido.
this was clearly inspired by hardcore punk
by Motorhead
Which all black metal should have been inspired by....except the nords thought it needed more mindless screaming and band logos that look like a piles of sticks all stacked on top of each other. Don't get me wrong I really like some Scandinavian black metal but when the 90s hit they shit the bed twice over
@@pressureflipin1992 Wagner was right, the nords were edgelord spoiled upper class kids that were bored, that's why they erased the hardcore punk influence, because they didn't know it

TOM WARRIOR is a GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!
...Tomas Gabriel Fischer from Zürich, Switzerland. He is LEGEND, for sure (without 'a')
Seen them with Exodus and Anthrax in 89
Bought this LP in 1984, took it to a friends house to play it, then his grandma came in and started dancing. Still have the first 3 albums on LP, but had to hide artwork from parents. Ha ha, good times.
It wasnt available in the US until 85-86.

Celtic Frost, Voi-Vod. Vio-lence at The Stone in San Francisco...epic show
Lately im addicted to this song.
One of the first bands that got me into this morbid metal scene and still gets to my blackened forever rotting soul 🤟🤟🤟🤟
Saw Frost and Voi Vod at the Stone in SF 1987. Both bands tore it up.
Tom G Warrior!🤟Also in HellHammer!
Also Triptykon, Apollyon Sun and Triumph of Death.
Super performance...
celtic frost might not have the best solos, but the riff´s + the drums + voice, unbeatable.
The solos cannot be imitated so easily, they are awesome
This album was tight man. One of the best put out by any extreme metal band from that era.
Well, I managed to do it, but it took me about a week or to to get the tempo and I am not a "horrible" guitar player. Besides, I like Celtic Frost´s solos has they are played in their songs ok? It fits the overall theme of the musics.
All those dorks headbanging ! And the lighting style REALLY isn't any different to what you saw on 'Top Of The Pops' back in the day; it's aesthetically very similar ! At 1st glance, I actually thought this was an old TOTP clip !
You're right. 'Cause this is from a Swiss TV-Show
@@Basstard-zy7lx Just goes to show; the scenes and 'genres' really ain't that different to each other ! I mean, back in the 80's Motorhead + Maiden appeared in Smash Hits magazine !
