Yingluo belongs with Zufeng. He was loyal to the end. Yingluo is able to understand the complexities of the emotions and actions from the people around her. She understands that the emperor wants to claim her because she isn’t submissive.
Zufeng had no intention of claiming her. He also knew to give her attitude and Zufeng would be the only man in this series she would do something for (pouch for example) out of love between a man and a woman. I think their love is the cutest.
A simple man born with many titles but that is just what he is. A simple man as is Yingluo. A simple woman with the desire to love just one man. Had the emperor not desired her....

Zufeng remains to be the only man she confesses to throughout the episodes.
I really really like the loyalty portrayed in this series. Despite the circumstances, Yingluo and Fuheng’s loyalty remain the same. It’s sad really. Just watch and pull through to the end.
I think Emperor and Yingluo accepted each other better, on a deeper level. Fuheng loved Yingluo but he didn't understand her need for revenge etc. He didn't accept her as she was, while Emperor did. He didn't want her to change. Not really.

That’s why there was a scene where he said that when she’s done with her desire to avenge her sister, he would be there for her (that’s why the cryptic ending when she was “falling” for the emperor was a scheme to have his brother killed, the person who rape her sister.)
But the process to have him killed since so much time passed and he dies in battle didn’t permit them to be together. That’s why, he said that line “ Will you protect me in the next life?” I forgot how it went.
He gave his all for her.
The emperor “cared” for her because he knew he couldn’t have her. Don’t forget he had concubines and consorts to keep him company and he was bored 😑 with them. Though they might do well as friends or fwb Yingluo’s intention was to avenge her sister. Just as they discussed the new empress’s situation with the dad and strategized to to kill or not to kill an innocent (Yingluo came up with the marvelous plan to pretend to kill)
These conversations are possible with Zufeng, only the topics would be different. Battfield topics.
Zufeng, was too, until she realized he wasn’t related to her sisters death. He was, from the beginning, genuine. The only reason Zufeng and Yingluos relationship couldn’t grow more was because they didn’t spend time with each other. But till the very end, after avenging her sister, she would have chosen the Zufeng.
Back from the beginning, he respected her desire for revenge, that’s why he didn’t start a life with her (and sacrificing himself to marry the villain).
Even if she just owed him but it wasn’t really that, she loved him. She was just too late. He had died.
In the end, it feels as though there was a sense of relief, she avenged her sister but but gained the love she could not have. A conviction in her eyes that said I did this for her, even if I can’t be with him. And he still loved her for it. Even when she was done. But he died. Awwwwwwww!

I actually meant in my original comment that some Chinese dramas tend to have dubbed dialogues (not involving flashback or inner thought sequences), as is the case of Ada Choi in "Legend of Zhen Huan/Empresses in the Palace", where all of her dialogues were over-dubbed; she is the butt of jokes in the Chinese entertainment industry for her habit of speaking only in Cantonese (her attempts at Mandarin still sound Cantonese, probably why Chen Jiabin reportedly committed a blooper of him laughing), so much that the director regretted ever casting her in the role of Ula Nara Yixiu
2. I actually saw parts of some of Nie Yuan's post-"Yanxi" dramas ("Knock on the Happiness Door/Happiness Will Come Knocking" & "The Legend of Haolan") and he does sound consistent...unlike Wu Jin'yan whose voice I hardly recognize in the aforementioned dramas (she does sound the same in "Princess Adventures" tho)

I understand the need to over dub some actors/actresses due to accents, tone and sometimes it's just cheaper to do so, I meant no offense with my question. I have a voracious curiosity for learning and sometimes may come across bluntly :). I learn so much from reading these comments.

The series is a span of 24 years. It started in 1741 and ended in 1765. The historical figures truly existed but the events are a little off from history because it is still just someone’s imagination. During that time period, women were only recorded with their surname so their first names vary from different series depending on the writer. When Wei YingLuo became the Emperor’s woman, she truly was bestowed the name Ling. Hence, she was Concubine Ling (5th rank), Consort Ling (4th rank), then Noble Consort Ling (3rd rank), then the last ten years of her life she was Imperial Nobel Consort Ling (2nd rank). The Empress is first rank. No one knows why she never became Empress after the death of Step Empress in 1766. However, as Imperial Noble Consort, she was de facto Empress, highest power and overseeing the harem. For reading on this era, look up Qianlong Emperor or Aisin Gioro Hongli.... that’s his real name...

I love Yingluo's loyalty to the Empress. They have an amazing relationship....it's what the jackass Emperor used in order to get Yingluo to submit to him and beg for mercy. She didn't mean a single word...she only wanted to be reunited with the Empress. She would've agreed to anything if it meant returning to the Empress side.
