Just watched this video awesome as all the rest but to here you say your helping a young bloke achieve finishing his Roof Chop and not charging him a quarter that is what hotrod builders used to be I,m not saying that they shouldn't charge for their expertise and talent an fabrication all are invited to make a living but it's awesome that your going to give your valuable time to help this young bloke get closer to his end goal of his project you have a awesome talent and a big heart good on you Bill Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
This helps me wrap my head around this stage…similar to what I’m tryin to do with a 31 coupe body (cab), cowl and doors and the back end body of a 30 s sedan. Was purchased for a rod project in 2014. Was together as a pickup ,bed included with extreme rust . Started in again after a year and half off , a house move etc. Hope your shops warm . Thankful for your presentations on this brutally -4, windchill-27, wind close to 40 mph, cold day in Kansas🌻 , just keeping garage above freezing today . Like what you do👊🏼
Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. I have wood stoves in my garages. We haven't gotten any super cold weather yet. Mostly around freezing. Hope it stays that way, garage warms up faster!
Dereck and camera lady I love the show my go to Thursday watch. Very nice of you to help on the rat rod and keeping this wonderful hobby going! Happy holiday to you both..
Wish I could put together a deuce roadster or five window, or even a 27 roadster on deuce rails, where can I get some deuce rails without it costing an arm and a leg?
My friends order the American stamping rails from Speedway and then build them. Everywhere I've seen boxed 32 frames with cross members are around $2500 US plus shipping. That's what I've had to pay. The original ones I work on came with the bodies. They're near impossible to get.
@@coldstreamrodshop yeah, that's what I know, thanks for the reply, I remember seeing one place that made them in front and rear half sections for the left and right sides, you do all the finish work and add the cross members. At the time they were about $1200.00 and could be shipped U.P.S.
I try not to use any shims since I'm reconstructing and have the opportunity to put it square. I always prefer to use the same frame as the body will stay on. If the body gets switched to another frame, shims may have to be used. I do use body welting when the body is finished and goes on the frame.
Ok I understand the process of you building from the subrails up so you squared every thing up as you go to that chassis. Thanks for you reply and advise.
Harold I thought there was based on my conversation with the owner but it's more that doors aren't original to this body. Having said that there is a lot of variation between like parts. It was common on the assembly line for them to have parts of different sizes and fit accordingly on the line.
Good job Derek 👌

Awesome job. I really like your videos. Much better and realistic than those fake fast builds you see on tv
Good job of explaining, thanks.

We’ve had some -8 I don’t think I would survive much colder than that. Take care.
We like the coupe stories. We have a "32 Sport Coupe, in the shop for restoration. 5 window coupes may be a bit easier to deal with.
Good luck!
Wow that's a rare body style. I've never seen a 32 sports coupe or a B400.

Merry Christmas and happy new year! We've got lots to do in 2023!
Merry Christmas!
Same to you!
Hey I think it's fantastic you're learning this bodywork, there's some guys that can build those from flat sheets of steel.
Yes I aspire to be like them but I think it will take many many years to attain that extreme level of skill!

Do you work with body shims for getting the body squared as I haven’t seen any. And what about chassis felt. Thanks for posting the progress, Derick.

Derek, you mention the NY body is an early one. Is there some difference with a late one ?
