The deference the judges give Trump due to his being a former president of the U.S. is understandable. However excessive deference by the courts and media detracts from the fact that he is a criminal defendant now and not president. The way he is covered and treated now insults the office and all the past presidents who did not commit crimes. Treat him like the citizen he is and not a special person.

I may not know precisely what, but that IS exactly what the court will decide. Although Trump may get off based on the Statute of Limitations, other than Trump, I see no other source addressing this problem. New York law sometimes allows the clock to be stopped on these statutes of limitations when the defendant was out of the state, and Trump spent four years living in the White House before relocating to Florida.
Based on the actual charges, the state has a solid case. Procedurally, Trump may yet get away with it, if not at the District Court level, then at the appellate level. Watch Trump's lawyers argue these legal theories.

I'm comforted by the fact that there are two attorneys on the jury who can explain that lawyers don't get to charge clients for the taxes they pay on the income they make.
I didn't go to law school. I'm gonna need a really basic, elementary explanation of why the defendant is being threatened with incarceration for at least the third time. I don't understand the judge's hesitation to mete out equal justice. I need to believe there are legitimate reasons for making special allowances for the defendant but it has gone on so long, in multiple courtrooms....my trust is waning and I need some explicit explanation.
1. They are not sure how to handle the details of incarcerating, and securing a former president and his security detail.
2. They fear giving Trump a "martyr" moment. Something that he can use to campaign on.
3. They worry appellate courts might disagree and rule a mistrial.
4. They fear violent protests and even retribution from MAGA psychos.
Well, forgive me if this gets a bit technical and jargon-ridden, but there are two core reasons.
1: He's white.
2: He's rich.
This is one jam Trump can’t pay his way out of.
