Gotta agree with Greg. Gas fill should never be in the bed itself, I don’t want to get drips of gasoline on the wood bed. Plus having it on the fender is easier to get to.
In 1971 I was given 1954 F-100 with a 354 Hemi 2 V carburetor. My Dad helped me correct steel plates of 1/4 inch between the front axle and leaf springs and also a pretty much bolt on Mustang/Cougar Power Steering. I did well when I parted with that . I traded car’s and trucks like socks. Within a year or so I landed a 1957 F-100 short fleet side with a 428 R code . At the time I didn’t know what an “R” code meant.

My dad had his 1956 ford truck and when he passed he gave it too me and I’m trying to restore it myself in honor of my dad it’s been hard to restore
