You don't need full gold to have great results. But running a full gold loadout means your getting the maximum potential out of the gun of the tank which will most times equate to a better result. *Aside from using HE when appropriate.
Could you make a series of practice (things to do), e.g. stop in the replay randomly and ask you would do ( could totally be holding the same position )? Such exercises for when and where to relocate could be really helpful in all maps.

Learn weakness and strength, which tank you can trade with or not and the most important: learn and remember the tanks that have autoloaders, autoreloaders and fast reload. For exemple: you don't stand in front of a Bat Chat 25t or it will clip you for about 2000 dmg. You dont trade either with a obj 140 while in a medium having lower dpm.. Its really a mater of playing ALOT of games and having most sort of encounters to react accordingly. There is no way new player achieve 8-10k dmg result unless the game is rigged. That said, GLHF !
